This all hurts so much. I was raised without religion because my mom was Catholic, my dad Jewish. I was left to choose. At age 13 I had a quiet discussion with my dad about his beliefs - and then I began my journey to official conversion to Judaism. I completed that journey when I was 20. So much of the journey included trying to understand the seemingly endless hatred of Jews throughout the world, but in the end there is no way to truly understand that kind of hatred. I am now 76 and to see in recent weeks the ugly feelings rise up again is akin to reopening an extremely painful wound. So much of the hatred aimed at Israel seems to be just a modern excuse to flaunt antisemitism. I have no hatred of the Palestinian people - no Jew in her right mind would wish to inflict that pain on anyone. Too many of our people have been on the receiving end of that hate and violence! But Hamas is evil and somehow must be stopped. I just don’t know how. And the hurt just goes on and on.
