Mizuno Shaft Optimizer: In depth with Chris Voshall, Matt McIsaac and TXG's Ian Fraser.

  • Mizuno’s own Chris Voshall and Matt McIsaac took the Shaft Optimizer for a spin with renowned TXG fitter Ian Fraser - to establish its most effective role within the custom fitting process. The swing speeds weren’t too far apart, but the Optimizer found enough differences between the 3 players to suggest a different batch of iron shafts each time. The Optimizer very quickly highlighted the exact shaft that Ian Fraser had taken periods of trial and error to put in his current set-up. The Mizuno Shaft Optimizer is available to test through Mizuno's Fitting Centre network.

    Great video guys. I used this device to pick my new Mizuno iron shaft 2 yrs ago - it put me in 120 S300s, a shaft I didn't know about, and I now love it. Like Chris, I love heavier shafts in the wedges so the Tour S400s in the T20 / T22s are perfect. Also like Chris with his AMTs, I swapped out my S300s, in my 5 and 6 irons, into slightly lighter and higher launching SteelFiber i110s S-Flex - they were worth 1/2 a club in carry and another 10-20 peak height. Such a no-brainer to use as a starting point for shaft selection.

    I utilized the Mizuno shaft optimizer at my most recent fitting and # 2 recommendation was DG 120X and I paired it with the Mizuno 223 and loving the results. I actually had great results with top 4 recommendations, but for me the DG just felt the best. My numbers are almost identical to Ian's with just little higher SS.

    On one hand I am sad to have missed the opportunity to get my swing dna measured when I was in the market for and ultimately bought a new set of irons (MP20 combo) 3 years ago, but the fitter had so little experience that he didn't know how to connect tue device.
    On the other hand however, I am so happy with the Modus 120S as I have such great feel and consistency with it that I am glad to have gone with it either way. But I am always curious as to what my numbers may be.

      Chris most certainly did just leak a new 2023 model in the JPX hot metals. I’ve been playing the new High Launch 223’s for a month now after being fitted by Mizuno using this very technology. Really wanted to walk out with the Hot Metal Pros but there was no denying the improved results I achieved with the HL’s. I’m 62 years old with a seven iron swing speed of 76 mph and a handicap of 24 at the time of fitting. In the last month I’ve achieved much better ball striking and now play off 20.3. Shafts are Nippon NS Pros (S) and I couldn’t be happier. This is not a gimmick - do yourself a favour and get fitted by Mizuno. By the way, I’m not sponsored by Mizuno 😂 👍🏻🇦🇺

  • @FF04RDF

    What weight and flex is in the shaft attached to the Optimiser? Would the outcomes be different if say the shaft was very heavy and stiff vs light and soft ? How does the tech compensate for the effect of the shaft you’re taking a sample from?

    • @mizunogolf1906
      @mizunogolf1906  2 года назад

      It’s a relatively middling graphite - what was required to run the sensors through. People are always surprised how accurately it maps each swing considering. True test is how consistently it guesses the shaft of someone like Ian Fraser - who has a host of other more expensive studio tools to help him.

    I was fit with this and am totally confused now , my first 3 swings( after warming up ) thou not my best I would say but ok put me in a 5.0 Project LZ which I thought was a little weak but ok I thought I'm 60 ( 6 Handicap )now so this could be my new shafts, after a friend did his swings I had them do me over again and I had 3 solid strikes and it put me in the Project LZ again but this time 6.5 lol ,I don't think I want to play either of those thou I do like the feel of the LZ shafts and it is fun collecting the data but I would highly recommend getting them to redo your data to confirm your results.
