Hi Lee; Sorry for late reply, the message was in the spam folder and i just found it. Sounds to me like your rear stator bushing is worn out allowing E apply clutch oil to escape. Does it start to slip hot? My e-mail is gsferraro@yahoo.com
regarding the orifice locations - ZF publish the spare parts catalogue for the entire transmission, within which is an exploded diagram of the transfer plate. The exploded diagrams show "location numbers" for the orifices, and the part number table tells you what each orifice is and its location in the table corresponds to its position in the transfer plate. Hi Gary. I recently rebuilt the ZF5HP19 transmission and valve body. Everything works great with the exception of a hard shift when going from park to drive. It’s a hard clunk. What could be the cause? Shifts smoothly up and down in drive.
Gary, it goes into reverse smoothly as well. Original problem was the broken reverse drum. I replaced all gaskets and friction plates and rebuilt the valve body. I’m wondering if I inadvertently introduced junk in the solenoids. But not sure which solenoid to check, and if I should check other things?
Thank you for posting this, it is very detailed and helpful. I am just working on my 5HP19 BMW transmission, but only to clean or replace the EV1, by any chance do you of a source on Ebay, etc that I can buy the two white ORings for the valve body wire loom plug? Appreciate your help.
The comment of “harsh downshifts” would that be a symptom toward when braking downhill the box will change down two gears ? If so I think you just diagnosed my issue on my E46 330d with a 5HP 19
Gary Ferraro thanks for the reply, I have no codes and I have replaced the filter and fluid but fault still remains, during filter change I checked the two speed sensors and they had equal resistance across them, the loom looked good with no rubbing marks but the filter had dropped down with a split seal and was sitting on the sump pan.
Hi I want to re-condition the valve body in my 1999 Porsche 911 it looks just like the one you are working on here however it may not be. I have 2 questions 1 how can I find out exactly what mine is and where can I order the gasket and dampers and what ever else I may need to do this job please advise.
After a harsh TCC engagement issue when hot, I rebuilt the valve body to find the spacer plate gasket deteriorated by the fluid input and output from the pump. So where the gasket sits between the two long ears on top of the spacer plate. This fixed my problem completely, until it came back around 5000 miles later, after a low fluid level issue. So the gasket has gone again. Chances are something else is wrong and causing it but I have no idea. Is this anything you've seen before? Anything in particular I should look for?
@@GaryFerraro the problem was fixed with replacing the spacer plate gasket, and I think it's gone bad again. Have you ever seen one damaged? I'm thinking perhaps the metal is warped and I need to flat sand it as you do.
@@GaryFerraro Opened the valve body and found a damaged spacer plate gasket. Probably because my "feel" of 6NM torque was more like 3 oops. Changed the gasket, transgo pressure regulator valve (bore was slightly worn but not too bad) and all is good. Shifts between R and D are quicker than before also. I've seen this with two other people on the forums so it's good to know, harsh TCC under light load seems to be the space plate gasket.
I'm having an issue after I bought a rebuilt 5hp19 from a shop, it's a 01 325ci. It moves but only when you rev it to the moon (basically slipping). In reverse or drive, rebuilt torque converter as well. And it stops taking fluid at around 6-7 quarts, it acts like its is full so close it up. Is this an issue with the valve body or pump? Thanks in advance
Being the fact it happens in drive and in reverse, Could be pressure reg valve in valve body, something with the pump,or filter. The G clutch is on in 1st and reverse also. There are plastic feed tubes in-between the valve body and case, one of these tubes contains the flow control valve, if that is stuck may not move to good. Full of fluid correct, you did 1st and 2nd fill?
@@GaryFerraro I filled it while it was off til it leaked out then with the car on until it was coming out. I guess I'll have to pull it out and take it back to the shop because its technically under warranty with them. Just frustrating thinking I messed something up
@@borysvasquez684 If it took both fills then pump is probably ok, maybe some thing else, 5HP19 pumps I always put new, do you know if the pump body and gears are new
@@GaryFerraro as far as I know it should be all new stuff. It's from a transmission shop but I'm not completely sure everything is new. I had an issue already last time it was up that they said was something in the valve body, that time it wasnt spinning the wheels at all. It went in the all the gears but didnt transfer any type of power from the torque converter to the wheels now they "fixed" that but now its acting like its slipping. Almost like it's trying to start in a high gear, but it couldn't be that because it happens in reverse as well. Does the car need to have the tcm reprogrammed? That's about all I have seen on the forums for people with similar issues, but I'm not sure.
