I mean whats the chance's this ever happening just crazy it did. Has this ever happened in a tournament before? 1st time ive ever seen it. I mean sure there's the 50 rule thing happening before but i doubt with a checkmate on the 51st move.
@@oriondx72 I'm sure it must have happened, though very rarely. Also shocking that a ""gm"" didn't even know the Cochrane defence or the second rank defence.
Hikaru when down time: “Time doesn’t matter, because with 10 second increment there’s plenty of time to think about how I can steamroll this kid” Hikaru when up on time: Time usage is CRUCIAL in these rapid tournaments and, being up three and a half minutes, I’m just gonna steamroll him”
I think its in his perspective. Hikaru can probably play with 1 second on the clock with 10 sec increment but the less experienced gms would find it hard
U might be new to chess and due to being a fan of gukesh..... So u might not know who magnus is.. unless u joking ... Noone can critcise magnus noone can replicate what he has done and is still doing
Absolutely stunning for an older chessplayer that recently returned to the ring to listen to you comment on these games, your own games, almost "direct"... amazing. So congrats, a pleasure, and wishing you and yours all the best from Europe !
Beaing called fast by a wife is not the best compliment :) . Furiouse compensate it tho. Jokes aside, congratulatuons to Hikaru for having found a supportive wife like that! Good luck to both.
Amazing work you did today Hikaru, and props for making this recap after such a long and exhausting day. I was watching the tournament live and your draw against Donchenko when you were one move away from mate was one of two shocking moments today. Best of luck with the rest of the tournament.
I played many 1 Day rapid tournaments. It's 7 or 8 rounds in a day. It's actually really tiring. It's mentally exhausting I'm surprised he has the willpower to create a video
that 51 rule situation is what i call fantastic chess... your opponent needs to be commended for putting up that gr8 fight... in the build up to thtat last move there were moments of excellent defence
Watched the tournament online, and after that 3rd game, I said to myself, "No way he does anything but win the rest of the day." Congratulations on finishing strong. GL the rest of the way.
Love how you play the what ifs quickly on the board.I can actually keep up with you. I’m USA so I’m cheering for you but love Magnus even after his bad day.
I don’t know who does your thumbnails but this guy needs a raise. Not just today’s either, they are consistently S-tier thumbnails. OH YEA GREAT JOB ON THE WIN..!
there was another match as well in the round 1 which was a draw. One side had a Queen and other side had a rook. That was also very frustrating and it was finally given a draw after the fifty move rule. Two similar events happened in one day. But your situation was even more tense and exciting.
Hi Hikaru I saw you wearing a Saskatchewan Roughrider's sweater. I am rooting for you and may the strong spirit of Saskatchewan lead you to victory warrior
Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Yea, if you had one more move in game 3 you would win it (instead of a draw) which would put you in leading position with 4.5 points, but 4 is still great, good luck today!
Danya had a great start. Rooting for the guy as he had to deal with crazy Kramnik this year.
he accused even nihal, gukesh, arjun too its ok to not take kramnik seriously. its good to see Danya playing top tournaments

What's shocking is you uploading a recap after that long day!
Respect to this man
Knowing Hikaru, he somehow managed to start filming the recap during round 3.
difference between doing a job and doing what you love
Makes perfect sense for a professional streamer (previous professional chess player) to upload videos, doesn't it?
Such a tragicomedy to miss a win for only one move

Time pressure rules don't apply on Hikaru as he's a speed demon 😈
Hikaru will never die. He made a bargain with the devil for 10 second increment.
It depends on the position. A complicated middlegame, you are gonna hurt with only ten seconds a move. A simple endgame, ten seconds is plenty.
@@ExplodingSkull-n5y what the hell is a less experienced GM
Fun fact (because I'm a nerd) :
The Wall Street Journal page is the February 2nd, 2024 front page. The articles are unedited.
I am also somewhat nerdy and was very curious. Thank you for this info! :)
Dream assessment of today's recap would be Gukesh going on Chessbase India and telling Sagar that Magnus didnt play any single good move.
