This is my favourite Disney movie ever made. You really need to watch the show but first watch Tangled Before Ever After and then watch the Show Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. In the show there are two characters named Cassandra and Varian and cause their voice actors are Broadway stars you might recognise their voices. But mostly when they sing
_Beauty and the Beast_ is NOT about Stockholm Syndrome. While Belle is originally is a captive, she runs away the moment things get rough, and chooses to stay when Beast saves her life. During the captive part of the story she is even given agency to go anywhere in the castle except his private quarters. Gaston is trying to control Belle while Beast slowly learns genuine connection. At best it should be argued that Beast has Lima Syndrome, which is defined as: a psychological response where a captor or abuser forms a positive connection with a victim. And even that may be seen as pushing it considering how quickly he lets her out of the tower dungeon and starts trying to form that connection. Sorry, I think _Beauty and the Beast_ being said to be about Stockholm Syndrome may be a bit of a triggering topic for me. Didn't intened to rant.
Cinema Therapy (with Jon Decker, licensed therapist, & Alan Seawright, filmmaker) made a video using Tangled to demonstrate "The 11 Warning Signs of Gaslighting": ruclips.net/video/Efua__7B7j4/видео.htmlsi=azjiC1OW2NAuW5ag (17min). ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I get instant tears the moment Rapunzel's parents are shown before the lantern scene. The idea that they've been doing that for 18 years never knowing if she'll return breaks my heart every time. Then, add on that their lantern actually teachers her? Forget about it 😢
So idk if anyone has already commented this, but the lantern that rapunzel lifts back up before it reaches the water was her parents. It’s the only one with the royal crest on it. I love the symbolism, like her parents have just been sinking, almost burning out, all these years but she’s finally here to lift them back up again.
One of my favorite details in the movie is when Gothel falls through the window Rapunzel still reaches out for her. Because she did genuinely love her for 18 years of her life, Gothel was her whole world as horrible as she was. So she still reaches out, despite now realizing how evil she was. I’m so glad they added that shot. Also, the short scene of the parents right before they release the laterns is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Disney despite neither of them saying a word.
I love this details too ! Make me think of Quasimodo almost dying to save Frollo in the Hunchback ! It's hard to hate abusive parents, even when you know they're abusive.
Donna Murphy DID the damn thing as Mother Gothel! Such a vocal powerhouse, and she really conveys such depths of condescension and contempt. Great reaction. :)
The lantern scene has me bawling EVERY SINGLE TIME. Especially when you see how heartbroken her parents are. After her, they probably COULDN’T have another child. Headcanon is that he’s telling this story to their child(ren). Oh any kid(s) they have will be super spoiled by Rapunzel’s mom and dad.
“I See The Light” hits so much different in context. Glad you can appreciate the whole film, it’s honestly one of the best Disney films of the last 30 years-which is saying a lot!
My favorite detail from this movie is the way Eugene and Gothel interact with her hair. When Gothel says I love you, she's always looking at and touching Rapunzel's hair. When Eugene says it he moves her hair out of the way so he can see her face.
I'm so glad you watched this! I am so sorry it was triggering for you, I know i've watched stuff that have been triggering for me have been for me, too. tho, there is also something touching and comforting about a story with a happy ending that showcases unpleasant things. Tangled Is one of my favorite Disney movies. The relationship is truly heart breaking, and I appreciated that Disney wasn't afraid to showcase this kind of abusive relationship.
I saw this movie for the first time in 2011 at Disney World. We were camping and they played it outside. It was April and so nice and warm. The moon was out and the sky was lit with stars. It’s been my most favourite along with Enchanted. ❤
This came out right as I was struggling with a crazy boss who was gaslighting me. I finally got out of this abusive job but this movie really shined a light on what was happening to me!
genuinely recommend the show they made as a sequel... they kept the origonal cast and so much love and thought went into expanding the characters and world
Frozen 2 and Moana are very much about that as well. Unhealthy family dynamics and generational trauma need to be explored in honest, open ways, especially to kids who may be going through those same things and not understanding what’s happening. They can feel seen, validated, and given hope, as well as planting the seed to try to break/heal that cycle of abuse/trauma.
Mother Gothel could have made life so much easier by applying to be Rapunzel’s Nanny/Governess. Could brush her hair any time she wanted it without living like a fugitive. But, her panicked impulse (and evil brain) won out.
She wasn’t even planning to steal a baby that night. She just wanted a lock of hair. And you’re so right actually, with how manipulative she is, she probably could’ve gotten a job at the palace.
@@Fernsketch Exactly. After the hair died in her hand, I think she just panicked and grabbed her, which in a way is surprising considering how manipulative she is. I feel like she easily could have calculated her way into a job close to the Princess if she hadn’t panicked in that moment.
my favorite song is Mother Knows Best, but the song in the movie was cut and left out a couple lines. "Go ahead, get trampled by a Rhino! Go ahead, get mugged and left for dead! me, I'm just your mother, what do I know? I only bathed, and changed, and nursed you. Go ahead and leave me, I deserve it, just let me die alone here, be my guest! but when it's too late, you'll see, just wait mother knows best"
I'd love for you to react to the original Tangled, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. You probably know the music to that one, too, though the story is incredible.
There’s an Easter egg in Frozen where you can see Rapunzel and Flynn - they were invited to Elsa’s coronation. Anna runs past them after the gates open in For the First Time in Forever.
“After years” no actually deadass after years of doing it😭 its on the tv show. He asked her like a thousand times before she said yes shdjdjd. But the wedding is also a short film!!!!
I want to say thank you for your perspective on this movie, I’ve watched this movie hundreds of times but never saw the mental health side of it, now going on my own mental health journey and seeing that, it was beautiful ❤️
👉IF U SEE THIS COMMENT and really liked Tangled. I strongly advise you to go and watch Tangled the Series. The series features new songs from the Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. Not only that, they kept Zachary Levi(Flynn Rider) and Mandy Moore(Rapunzel) in the series as well. And they also brought in two more extremley talented singers, Eden Espinosa and Jeremy Jordan. One thing you should know is that the series is a bit childish compared to the movie(u won't notice it) and that it's animated. But if you really liked the Tangled movie and the story I beileve you'll enjoy it either way. Here's the correct order to watch it➡➡ 1. Tangled 2010, IMDb Rating: 7,7/10 2. Tangled: Before Ever After 2017(Movie), IMDb Rating: 6,5/10 3. Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure 2017(Tangled the Series), IMDb Rating: 7,7/10 4. Tangled Ever After 2012, IMDb Rating: 7,5/10
Tangled is such a great film!! It does such a great job exploring these topics. The Tangled TV show spinoff is also super beautiful and has amazing music too, if you're ever interested in checking that out. :D
As someone with a narcisist mom i LOVE THIS MOVIE LOL, they got the point SO RIGHT. Love my mom, love Gothel too, and im kinda of a narcisist myself so i kinda like then? Also, 10/10 songs on Disneys movies EVER
This is literally my style of a very good villain because this is the attitude that works because my feelings is the best way to go if someone knows how to mess with my feelings because then we’ll done because I know a friend of mine that has that kind of attitude it works every time because now they got me now because now I just got emotional it really works well outside of what she did to him people that are like that are just the perfect kind of people to see in movies because people will actually act like that
Not the "la la la" after sobbing lol. This movie and Hunchback of Notre Dame are both excellent examples of Stockholm Syndrome, both from supposed parental figures. Beauty and the Beast is less so - she doesn't start falling in love with him until he saves her life and then starts taking active steps to be kind to her. I saw on Tumblr once that it's actually a better example of Lima Syndrome, and I agree with that.
you should now watch Tangled Before Ever After and the tv series Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. they continue the story really well and have some incredible original songs! Including songs performed by Jeremy Jordan!
Loved your reaction! This is one of my favs. If you enjoyed this, you need to check out Encanto, if you haven't already. It's really cathartic for family dynamics. Plus the soundtrack rocks.
You MUST MUST MUUUUST react to Voctave - Disney Love Medley! They have this song as a part of it and it's beautiful!! Also is featuring Kirstin from Pentatonix so you know it's good!
Your reviews are amazing and I’m very new to the channel! If you haven’t at all I would love to see you react to a couple requests if at all possible! Guy Sebastian - Battle scars ( from the home front ) anzacs (in his home studio). Also John Farnham - Help (Beatles cover live with the Melbourne symphony orchestra ❤❤❤ ***MIND BLOWING***
please react to the music from tangled before ever after and the tv show- rapunzels tangled adventure (continues the story) menken and glen returned to do the music and Mandy and Zach reprised there roles- the music is great to amazing and is mostly broadway style- a lot of the cast are from broadway as well!
This movie is so much better than Frozen. This deserved to be as big as Frozen, if not bigger. It's my favourite Disney Princess movie (tied with Mulan)
I’ve watched a bunch of your videos so I decided to watch this one too. I absolutely love Tangled. Fantastic movie but I was very surprised and turned off by how much you swore during this. I feel like it’s unusual for you. I can’t recall any video of yours with this much swearing. Definitely not needed. Not sure I’ll be watching any more of your videos

Did I mumble…..MOTHER?? god I love when she claims her power back
Making Gothel realistically evil is the right way to go with all future villains
Started with Frollo... Now that was a realistic villian.
@@pamelawilliams3144 I always forget about him but yeah, he's definitely unfortunately realistic as all heck.
I get instant tears the moment Rapunzel's parents are shown before the lantern scene. The idea that they've been doing that for 18 years never knowing if she'll return breaks my heart every time. Then, add on that their lantern actually teachers her? Forget about it 😢
Thats my favorite scene. Not a single word has to be spoken, and you know exactly what they're feeling. Beautifully done.
In the pantheon of Disney witches, Mother Gothel has the least actual magic power... and is the most diabolical and frightening.
She's the most frightening because she's the most likely to actually exist. 🥲
So idk if anyone has already commented this, but the lantern that rapunzel lifts back up before it reaches the water was her parents. It’s the only one with the royal crest on it. I love the symbolism, like her parents have just been sinking, almost burning out, all these years but she’s finally here to lift them back up again.
20:49 I love seeing people's reactions to "Did I mumble, Mother?", everyone (rightly) is always like "HELL YEAH, TELL HER"
One of my favorite details in the movie is when Gothel falls through the window Rapunzel still reaches out for her. Mother Knows Best is always about singing to her hair especially ehen she nicknamed her My Flower
Textbook example of gaslighting. Mother Gothel is terrifying.
No they couldn't cuz it was said they struggled hard to even have Rapunzel
You know Disney has made a hit when they hire Broadway stars for their movie
(this is also why Hazbin Hotel did so dang well)
“I See The Light” hits so much different in context. Glad you can appreciate the whole film, it’s honestly one of the best Disney films of the last 30 years-which is saying a lot!
Tangled is amazing and the cartoon is also really good with amazing songs
She's held captive in a tower. So it's not just a VERBALly abusive relationship.
My favorite detail from this movie is the way Eugene and Gothel interact with her hair. When Gothel says I love you, she's always looking at and touching Rapunzel's hair. When Eugene says it he moves her hair out of the way so he can see her face.

I never understood why Gothel kept Rapunzel's same birthday, not very bright on her part
My head cannon is that one day, Rapunzel asked her when her birthday was and Gothel absentmindedly told her while she was focused on something else.
This came out right as I was struggling with a crazy boss who was gaslighting me. I finally got out of this abusive job but this movie really shined a light on what was happening to me!
genuinely recommend the show they made as a sequel... they kept the origonal cast and so much love and thought went into expanding the characters and world
One of my ultimate faves. My son loved it when he was very little and called the film ‘funny horse’ 😂
There seems to be an underlying theme of healing the family hurts / generational trauma in the last few years, especially with Coco and Encanto
Frozen 2 and Moana are very much about that as well. Unhealthy family dynamics and generational trauma need to be explored in honest, open ways, especially to kids who may be going through those same things and not understanding what’s happening. One of the best Disney movies. One of the few if not the only one where both parents are alive. 😂

Tangled is and has been my favorite Disney movie ever since it came out ❤
This movie was released on Nov 24,2010. Which is actually my birthday. I will turning 21 tomorrow. I’m so excited.
There’s a reason people call this movie “Gaslighting: The Musical”
Girl I can’t believe I just cried with you😭
This is a gem of a movie, and Maximus is a gem of a character. So glad you finally saw the movie!!

I'm so sorry you went through that, you all deserved so much better.

Yes u should react to the series songs especially ready as I’ll ever be , the hate incantation , nothing felt to loose
If someone know where is her reaction to mother know the best tell me because as far as I know it didn't exist
Nobody in the kingdom notices that she’s the only blonde in a kingdom of brunettes
I named my golden doodle Flynn Rider after him!!
My mother is exactly the same, she is an abuser, a bully, a thug
please watch cinderella with brandy and whitney houston
Mother Gothel wrote the handbook on Gaslighting. 😢
Maximus is the star of this film loll
Don't know if you will ever see this comment but you should check out the music in repunzles tangled adventure it's awesome ❤
