I'm one of those people who love to play with hair and wear wigs for fun! Different colors, different lengths- although I will say when I hit menopause my hair is thinning A LOT - but I admit, I still have a head of hair- thinning more and more and I've never been happy with it. I've been getting my hair highlighted every 10 weeks for several years and I just can't face that $300+ bill anymore. I'm coming close to forgoing the salon and just wearing my beautiful wigs! Thank you for all that you do!
All great points. As far as adhesives, because I have such a petite head, the wigs tend to move around on my head, even the "glueless" ones, plus wearing a velvet wig grip. So I have been using the Got2BGlued hairspray on my hairline, specifically in between the velvet wig grip and my hairline. It is absolutely non-damaging and keeps my wig from slipping, and the lace from buckling, folding or being loose. As to synthetic wigs v. human hair wigs: After the first year or so of me wearing wigs (started a little over 20 years ago), I began wearing HH wigs, exclusively, and for years and years. However, synthetics have come such a long way in all of those years, and now I wear exclusively synthetic wigs. I prefer the dynamic color choices; how the technology has made the fibers super fine, soft and silky; where I have a choice of heat friendly fibers or regular fibers that are not heat friendly (I overall prefer the latter); I love how the style is "baked" into the wig, e.g., I do not have to style it every time after I wash it, like I did with a HH wig, and then refresh the styling every few wears. Overall, though, the thought of wearing someone else's bio hair now REALLY really bothers me. So those are my reasons why I now prefer to exclusively wear synthetic wigs. For your last point, if someone compliments "my" hair, I always thank them. And that's it. I do not have any desire to launch into "it's a wig" conversation. It's my business, my hair (I paid for it), and I get complimented on "my hair" all of the time. Sometimes when they ask me who does my hair/color, I do fib. I tell them my sister (who lives in another state) does my hair, whenever I go to visit her several times a year. End of story ! lol
This was a fantastic video. I do wear different wigs just because it’s fun. I have an odd destructive hatred of my own hair and keep it no more than an inch. I have a naturally low square shaped neckline and it looks awful grown. My hair is so much thinner now I am 62. I couldn’t care less what others say. Keep up the up the good work. X
It is hard..I work in a Middle school. .6,7,8 graders. I like to change my wigs every day but I try to keep it unnoticeable...the kids call me out though.... teachers don't say anything...I just tell them I have lousy hair and people wear false nails, eyelashes, makeup, extensions...I like changing my hair styles.
I guess the lack of acceptance for wearing wigs is prevalent in Europe, and mostly among the white population. Which is really sad. In this respect the black community is much more advanced and open. We should take an example from them. Whether wigs or extensions, does not matter. Wear whatever you want and enjoy it. Thank you for your videos. They are always very helpful
Spotlight suits you so well! I remember I tried her at the beginning of my wig journey and did not like the look on me. I have changed and I think I might like the look now! 🤷🏻♀️🥰
Congratulations on your new baby! I'm a brand new wig wearer, haven't even worn it yet, just ordered it yesterday; it's a synthetic wig and I'll be wearing it mid length, not long, long, but about 4-6" below my shoulders. It's a lace front and I'm not sure of the brand, I bought it at a wig shop that i trust. I love your channel and I will definitely be coming back continuously to get some tips on how to make my wig look more natural. I do have a lot of hair loss, so I took your advice about the Milano wig grip and the wig grip with the cap; that's the only thing that seems a little uncomfortable, having my natural hair, put into elastics at the back. So hoping the grip and cap, takes care of that discomfort. Thanks so much Steph. You look so wonderful and your wigs look so natural, love them. (from Sandi Paquet)
I’m a newbie and considering wearing wigs instead of constantly dyeing my hair to cover gray. It’s thinning and looking frizzy all the time😢 Wld you pls give suggestions for beginner friendly wigs? I prefer a medium/ long length with face framing layers. Thanks!
You look beautiful with that wig ❤. I'd like to wear wigs since I have very thin hair, but I'm not brave enough lol, because I'd want it to look like my own natural hair, that is, I would want to wear it every single day for every activity I do, but I think people would tell it's fake hair, especially coworkers or people whom I see every day, because they will notice that my hair never grows and never changes style. Even the way I touch my hair would change. Women with beautiful hair are always touching it when they wear it down, they move it from one side to the other with their hands, I would hardly dare to touch it. And not to mention if it falls or moves during a padel match, because I play padel very often 😅
Cool. Thanks for asking for a comment : So! I get wigs of alibaba, and they 1. Almost never fit my head. 2. They never fit the sides of my hairlines, Never. My side hairline is always visible unless I have bangs to cover it. 3. I can't Really do any "hair up" or "hair back" hairstyles with them at all. I have dark hair and I want a blonde wig I can style like normal hair so I can be blonde without the extensive damage of bleaching my hair, I'd really have to bleach my hair several times a month to maintain a blonde hair, and I already have thin hair so don't want to loose it all just to look cool.
Hi Steph! I am a fellow Canadian. I watch your videos all the time. Can you post a video of your current top favourite wigs? There are just so many out there it’s hard to choose one!
I am wearing crown extension, can’t leave my house without it! Because they’re really comfy to use plus I save a lots of money for not going to any saloon anymore 😁 I have wigs also but too hot in my country tho.
❤❤❤ Your videos Steph.. Congratulations 🎉 on your little one... enjoy them ..I have five children and 6 grandchildren....My favorite time was when they were babies. Merry Christmas 🎁 and Happy New Year 🎊
I really do not like heat friendly wigs. The first 3 wigs I bought- including Ignite by Jon Renau, a Raquel Welch, and a Tress Allure. They all became fried/frayed within 6 months. And, I never used heating tools on them!! I was so shocked- especially with the Raquel Welch wig. So, I started getting plain synthetic wigs. I found Zeal by Noriko and I LOVE it. I have it in 5 different colors= All Rooted= means it looks natural. Nobody ever thinks it is a wig, even though it has permatease. Permatease doesn't bother me- I've learned from Steph how to press it down so it's not goofy. Zeal is a great wig and you can get one for $160 if you look on the right wig sites.
Hi, this may not be something you can answer but it's worth a try. I've been losing and collecting my hair for years and have quite a bunch (thyroid issues). Might there be a wig manufacturer who could turn it all into a wig for me? Thanks for all you share.
I ordered the RareGen Avis that you reviewed and I absolutely loved it. Ordered a second Avis to swap it out since no one know I’m wearing a wig - and it is completely different and I can’t swap it out in order to wash the first one. It has much darker roots and a huge (2 inches) solid platinum strip right in the front - think Cruella Deville contrast. I am horrified that the second one is so different. I’ve asked what product I can have my hairdresser use to make it look normal like the first one but haven’t been told any products to use. Oh and the sizing was completely different. The ear tabs on the second one came down and covered at least half of my ears and had to be cut off. Just a nightmare since I didn’t want anyone to know about a wig 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Oh my gosh!!!! I'm so sorry to hear this!!! I wonder if you got the previous version of Avis?? In the summertime they changed the version of Avis (I did an update review on it). The color is slightly different because they have a new hair colorist just join their team. Did you reach out to Raregen by chance? Their customer service is really good and they really care. If you haven't reached out to them yet, please do so. I just know they will make this right ❤
I struggle with my wig riding up in the back. My head measurements are odd. I’m 21.5 circumference but small ear to ear and front to back. I don’t have enough hair for a ponytail and all wig grips and caps slide up and off in the back. I tried clipping the wig grip on with clips but even that kept sliding up. I just sewed a couple of combs in the back but haven’t worn it yet.
I'm so new to wearing wigs. I used to glue in extensions before my hair started falling out in huge clumps. I ended up just shaving it off. Now I got my first human hair wig. But it's to big. Has frontal lace. Regular bottom. How do I properly make it snug? And it don't sit right in front I think it's from being to big.
I had a synthetic wig and loved it, but the wig cap felt some unsecure. I was sure the reason was that it was a cheap wig and I thinked I had to find another more expensive to getting the wig more secure. The problem I had should be the wig cap, because the wig I had was not the cheapest one and it looked good.
Steph, what do you think of Wigshe? I’m a brunette and am concerned how fake the color looks on synthetics, so I’ve decided to go the human hair route for my first ever wig (yes, I’m freaking out) and this is the company I’ve narrowed down on. They seem affordable - should I be concerned their wigs aren’t thousands?
Hi Steph. I've really enjoyed all of your videos! You are very, very pretty and just look amazing iin everything ! I have a problem with white wigs. My biohair is snow white, root to tip R.Welsh color "Sweet Cream"matches well.. I've been told that it looks phony and that I should put dark roots in it to make it look mote "natural" WHY? Pure white hair does not grow out of dark hair..Back in the day women would have said that you needed your roots done.,. Why should I put something phony on my hair to make me look "natural"". I suspect making it worse is thatt In 5"
If anyone has any tips of how to keep a wig on as a person with a flat head, that would be great 😅 it’s so hard with almost no occipital bone to “hook” it on.
A friend of mine is going through chemo so she has no hair. can she wear the wig grip with cap without it slipping. Can you recommend a very curly shoulder length wig for her? I could really use your help. She has a human hair wig that looks bad on her . She has tried synthetic ones that she says only last 1 month. I need guidance on where to go to help her get want that she will love . PLEASE DIRECT ME ❤ .
I bought a synthetic wig (not a cheap one) and although it looked great indoors, outside in the sunlight it was soooo shiny - which to me, screamed fake. So my tip to anyone thinking of purchasing a synthetic wig or hairpiece, try it on and go outside with a mirror. I wish I had done that before I spent the money!
You can soak it in cool water with a tablespoon of baking soda for 5 minutes (no longer) and rinse it and hang to dry. That will cut the shine significantly. Or, just spray dry shampoo on it.
I generally can spot a wig a mile off, I could see the one you're wearing is a wig. Some wigs are terrible, others much better, some seem to make heads look too big, I've had that myself, some are super shiny. As I've become more up on wigs, I've found it more difficult to find a natural looking one. Getting the right fit cap isn't easy either, Noriko leave a big empty cone shape on my crown, Ellen Wille Modic make my head look big and they don't fit down over the ears enough. I find caps slip off underneath a wig, the wig grips don't always work. I've apparently got a slightly flatter head at the back, any recommendations?
The reason you can tell she is wearing a wig is because you know she is wearing a wig. If you were not a wig wearer yourself, I would greatly wager you would never even think she was wearing a wig. Signed: A 20+ year wig wearer. As far as keeping the wig on your head, there are lots of options. If you have a small head, like I do (I have an extra small head for an adult) you can spray with Got2bgluded hairspray or use It-Stays, very gentle types of water soluble adhesives. Or you may have to stitch in the wefts here and there to make it more snug. If the wig is too shiny, use dry shampoo -- works like a charm. There are tons and tons of how-to videos on all of these tips and more.
@Ms7of8 I disagree. You absolutely can tell a mile off when you're aware of wigs. Even people not up on them can be quite adept at spotting. It depends on many aspects. Permatease is always a dead giveaway, as are poor partings and non lace fronts. Condition is another, unatural shine another, poor fit, tangles where wigs are long enough to touch shoulders, etc. Some brands are shockers, others are getting quite good now, vastly improving, having less density & dropping the permatease. If I look back on wigs I wore about 15 years ago, I'm mortified by what I thought looked natural. Those then were Noriko or Rene. These, to me, are still really bad brands. I would never dream of stitching on a wig, they shouldn't be on permanently, you don't sleep in a wig. Neither would I use glue. A wig band and, if you've got some hair, hair grips do the trick. I wasn't overly impressed with dry shampoo on wig fibres.
@@baileybeamer "You absolutely can tell a mile off WHEN YOU'RE AWARE OF WIGS." Precisely. You are AWARE of wig wearing, because you wear wigs. I guarantee that for 99% of people in the world the average person comes across in their daily lives have no idea, focus OR AWARENESS that people who wear wigs are wearing wigs. Additionally, you totally misread my tip for stitching into the weft, not onto the head (doh). It was a technique we all did years ago on wigs that were too big. With that said, I really do not wish to respond to you any longer as the rest of your comment(s) is/are negative, defeatist, and what you have to say, as well as your attitude, is a major downer. Buh bye.

On the topic of wigs potentially harming your bio hair, you talked about damage from pulling but I am wondering about damage more like on the top of your head from the wig. That it might flatten the hair on top of your head and damage it more that way. What do you think about it Steph and what have you learned from your experience and talking to others? Thank you so much for your video :)

The reason they became frayed is because you didn't use heat. You have to use heat on heat friendly wigs. They require heat to stay nice.
You're so 🔥 you'd look fantastic in ANY color wig. Seriously. Hope your Yule was Amazing! 💓

Try a gentle adhesive, like Got2bglued hairspray or It-stays.
PLEASE DIRECT ME ❤
.
Try directing your friend to Milano Wigs, or Uniwigs, or if she is in the Southeast there is Georgia Hair Solutions, in Jackson, GA. Good luck.
that wig with that natural part looks natural
I bought a synthetic wig (not a cheap one) and although it looked great indoors, outside in the sunlight it was soooo shiny - which to me, screamed fake. So my tip to anyone thinking of purchasing a synthetic wig or hairpiece, try it on and go outside with a mirror. I wish I had done that before I spent the money!
You can soak it in cool water with a tablespoon of baking soda for 5 minutes (no longer) and rinse it and hang to dry. That will cut the shine significantly.
Or, just spray dry shampoo on it.
Dry shampoo. Every time I get a regular (non-heat friendly) synthetic. Makes a world of difference.
Wearing a wig grip is a must? New wig wearer so need to know. Don’t want wig to move around without wiggrip
@@shobhanahalder4767 it’s not a must, but it is definitely helpful to secure the wig to your head
Thank you
My wig grip rides up. My whole wig fallls off. I have tons of brands of wig grips. What am I doing wrong?
Make sure the wig grip is on correctly.
Same here. Ear tabs dont seem to reach my ears. 😢
Buh bye.

Velvet ones dont work for me it slips off.
And you are wearing ? Thank you
