Watching this makes me apprechiate the reboot even more. Just the dynamic of Schneider and Elena about the housekeeping jobs is so wonderful. Didn‘t know it had a root in this here.
Airdate December 16, 1979. This was the last episode (100th!) with Mackenzie Phillips before her six-week/episode suspension from the show. Producers determined that her off-screen issues were becoming too much for the show and ordered her to go to rehab. She would miss the last episode of 1979 (New Year's Eve show) and the first five of 1980. Her first episodes back would be the two-part retrospective airing February 24, 1980. She said of her time off that she went on vacation and got a haircut - no rehab. She ended up appearing in those 1980 episodes and then the next two (total of four), before being fired with five episodes left in the season. They had a third set of opening credits for those last five episodes without Mackenzie and still with the scrapbook green-blue background.
This is the same set they used for Good Times of course they changed props around but if you look closely you can specially where the bedrooms & dining room table is of course they added a counter then the hallway except for an elevator door you have an apartment door.
It wasn’t the same set. They overlapped studios over the course of their runs but it was a different soundstage and a different set. You’re making that up.
.....I wonder if that 'I get high on life' line Schneider uttered, at 5:49, was the writer's 'jab' at Mackenzie, who's not saying very much in her supposed last episode, before her 'vacation'......hmmmmm....
i personally don’t think so. despite the sendoff they gave her character, they could’ve chosen to give her an ending in season 9 that would close off her coming back, but they left the character’s fate open, had they been renewed for another season.
This episode was pretty cringy and stupid, and really highlights how ridiculous (and annoying) Schneider’s character is overall. In real life the family would have tired of his constant presence years ago. And here he and Max are both acting like pathetic children, with both actors being annoyingly over the top. It’s like the writers ran out of interesting and topical storylines so they conjured up an exceptionally contrived and childish plotline. The series deserved better.
Scheider was really ridiculous😱!!! What the heck was his problem? He was not married to Ann or Barbara. He needed to get a life! Max and Julie were married and If Max is part of the airline how come he couldn't afford his own place?
Schneider had been unofficially looking out for, and caring for, a single mother and her daughters for 4yrs. Yes, Max, is a now, official member of family, but Schneiders feelings are NOT ridiculous.
Agreed. The characters were over the top and silly. Ann was an obnoxious idiot, Schneider was a misogynistic pig and Julie was annoying. McKenzie Phillips was a terrible actress. Barbara was the only bearable character.
@@lisacowan7707 And the only reason she was bearable is because she was pretty. Had she looked any other was, her character would have been boring and forgettable. I really think that the the main appeal of this show and that is the only reason why it lasted. The show was better as a drama. Wasn't really a comedy at all.
I haven’t watched this show in 40 years.. I never missed a show when it was on. Great memories!!
Michael Lembeck was very good looking..
@Diana Moore He was GORGEOUS. Not the tallest guy in the world but WOOF!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
looks like our cousin who is a lawyer-good looking and smart.
@eloiseockert9233 I didn't say he was beautiful, I said he was very good looking. Big difference.
Love this

Actually she appears in the first episode of 1980.
@@Asukenick It was filmed before the New Year's episode. A lot of times, shows are aired out of order.
@@millenniumman75 That's what I thought.
Whoops! The last part was inadvertently cut off. I will fix it soon.
Um... So you never fixed it? How does this episode end?
It’s still not fixed 😢idk how it ends
@@jjoeyo I know right 😢
Oh post all the episodes you have!!!!! Please! ❤❤
thank you !
You are most welcome!
After him, Barbie and then Ann.😊
The one I really like the best is Schneider. After him
No ending so don't bother watching. Video just cuts off.
Both Julie and Barbara’s husbands were so hot! I kinda like Mark better, but Max, especially with the beard, is remarkably cute
I wanted Julie to be with Fred.

But weren't those 2 shows taped in the same time period.
@@schewitt1977 Good Times may have been over by 1979 ?
@@joesimon2029 awe ok that makes sense

This was definitely airing at the same time if ODAT began airing in 1975

He does have his own place, he’s the building super & has his own pad in the building, or do you mean his own home? As in but his own house?
Schneider was kinda creepy
@@sudsysutherland359 I was referring to Max not having his own place not Scheider.
@@citydweller99 yes I must agree, especially when he would just barge into Ann's apartment, I'm like why would he do that🤷♀️
