Hi guys, welcome to my art channel and thanks for being here ❤️
Today I am experimenting so just using a 10 x 12'' canvas
I know many artists are creating an ombre background for their work, I've seen Rinske Douna and Sarah Mack create some gorgeous pieces. Rinske with her Dutch Pours and Sarah created her Ninja Swipe over it. I wanted to try it using Shelee's Bloom recipe and create a more abstract swipe to suit the background.
Background: Mont Marte Lamp Black and Mont Marte Chinese White, used straight from the tube no water or medium added. This was allowed to dry for 24 hours.
Pillow:
Taubmans Doors & Trims Gloss in Neutral (this is a water based paint that is untinted. In some countries it is called Deep Base). This, however, was way too thick. I didn't stir it and I should have thinned it with some water as had real issues getting it to actually move on the canvas! I also had difficulty swiping! So learn from my mistakes don't leave it anywhere near as thick as I did!
Colours:
TLP Lakeside
TLP Athena
TLP pigments, silicone stir sticks and silicone pour mats can be purchased from fluid-art.co/
Atelier Dioxazine Purple
My pigments and tube paints are mixed with untinted (neutral) gloss house paint (water based) and Jo Sonja gloss varnish. In some countries you may need 'Deep Base' you're looking for one without any (or a very small amount) of titanium white, or it will make your colours pastel.
Please see video #92 for how I mix my colours (both pigments and tubes).
• (92) How I Mix My Pain...
Cell Activators:
Atelier Rich Gold
Atelier Tinting Pearl White mixed with a healthy dollop of Atelier Titanium White
These were mixed ONLY with Australian Floetrol (approx 2 - 2.5 parts to 1 part of acrylic paint).

I have a tip jar, it's definitely not expected, but if you'd like to tip any small amount would be greatly appreciated and will go towards buying more paint supplies. Thanks in advance it's: paypal.me/Nikidfluidart
My lazy susan is glass and 20'' which was purchased from Coles supermarket, they can also be sourced from variety/dollar stores and on Amazon. The heavier the spinner, the easier it will spin, I'd also suggest you get the largest one you can so you can easily use it for larger substrates too. I have a 24'' (60cm) wood round placed on top of my lazy susan.
My metal spatulas are artist palette knives, they can all be purchased from fluid-art.co/

OMG Niki... This is thw most beautiful bloom swipe I ever saw... STUNNING 😲🥰😎😍😘
Thanks sooo very much Fiona!!! 😀💜
Nice! I haven't tried the neutral base yet, I bought it ...need to just do it!. Does anyone else get painting paralysis? I'm in my own "head" too much I think.
Thank you Susan 😀💜 check the consistency beforehand don't be daft like me and just pour it on lol!
WOW Niki, incredible how different it dried!! Awesome!! Thanks again for sharing!! Enjoy your day!!😊💖
Thank you Judy! 😀💜 I knew it would dry clear, just hoped the way too thick consistency wouldn't dry bumpy!
Wow, stunning effect Niki. Absolutely beautiful.💝💙💜☺
Thank you very much Gabby 😀💜
I love your "stream of consciousness", intuitive thinking. This really speaks to me. I'm in Brisbane. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much 😀💜
MsNiki, The background makes it like the paint is standing on a shelf ! It is beautiful. As I watched I thought,” Oh no...I would freak!” It looked like old glue.
Thank you very much Nonnie 😀💜 Yes, I thought it looked like a shelf too. So silly of me to not check the consistency before pouring it on though!
Like always a very gorgeous painting 👏 👏 👏
Thank you so much Domi! 😀💜
You certainly worked for this one! Truly beautiful! Thanks for sharing

Thank you Laurie 😀💙
Absolutley beautiful Niki 😍 makes me want to try it..😃
Thank you Erica! 😀💜
This is unbelievably beautiful. I saw your struggle...but it appears that anything you touch to a canvas is magical. Seeing you switching up your background was fascinating and opens up uncountable options. Oh an aside...GREAT music. Loved your canvas fly off the spinner. 🤣😂...showed you really are, in some ways, "normal".
Thank you very much Michelle! 😀💜 The pouring medium drips were thick AND slippy! Usually the silicone mat stops that happening, amazed I kept catching it 😂
Thanks for sharing your trials with us, Niki. As usual, your work is stunning, absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you very much Dee 😀💜
Absolutely love this one. Beautiful color choice.
Thank you! 😀💜
Wow that sure gave you a run for your money lol. But in the end it turned out beautifully. I will have to give this a try. 🥰💜
That it did lol! Thank you! 😀💜 Silly of me to not check the consistency before pouring it out though!
Absolutely gorgeous!!!! I’ve done one painting like this and loved it.
her paintings are always impressive.
Thank you Vicki! 😀💜 I like how it gives 'depth'
That's so beautiful, Niki!! I love the effect of the floating design over the background. Absolutely gorgeous!! 💕
Thank you so very much Cathy! 😀💜
Absolutely gorgeous Niki! I'll have to try this technique..... Your art is always so beautiful ❤️
Thank you very much Lori 😀💜
I just did a bloom over an old painting using my very old pouring medium paint as the base, Clark and Kensington the base c paint and it came out amazing! I can’t believe I’m watching you do this tonight! Same idea just you painted yours and mine was an old painting I wasn’t thrilled with! It transformed it into something gorgeous! Yours is gorgeous!
Thank you Donna! 😀💙 Tag me on facebook would love to see
@@NikiDArt I’ll be putting it up on my next premiere next Friday! I’ll definitely tag you❤️
You have great sticktoitiveness!
Thank you lol! 😀💜
Ooohhhh I really like this 😊 it turned out beautifully. Did make me smile how think the base was .... but sooo happy you persevered with it. X
Thank you so much Maddy! 😀💙
Beautiful work! Love the colours! Words can't describe all the beauty of this piece! Thanks for sharing us the masterpiece work of art!
Thank you so much 😀💜
What an incredible result! I might have to try something similar. Despite the trouble with the pillow being too thick, you dealt with it beautifully! Great job!
Thank you very much! 😀💙
WOW 🤩 Such a cool process and stunning outcome. 😘🤟❤️
Thank you Joanne! 😀💙
WOW!! wonderful!!!!
Thank you Heather! 😀💜

Such a beauty
Thank you Jean 😀💙
Amazing wow
Thank you Gerri! 😀💜
That is so beyond cool... What an imagination you have and the creativity that is amazing I am an abstract freak... And I tell you you rocked it out.. It was like the first point why is she covering that up with pillow What was the point of going through all that trouble lol I realized and it was translucent... I know you always have a method to your madness as they say you're amazing artistic madness 🤣🤣 I am so very proud of you I am so happy.. I got to say today was such a bad bad day and this was the perfect ending.. You put a smile on my face Thank you for that sunshine 💜
Thank you soooo very much! 😀💜 Stupid mistake I made by not checking the consistency before pouring it on though!
@@NikiDArt never a stupid mistake or stupid little mistake.. remember it's always a happy little accident 😁💜💯
It’s so beautiful
Thank you Tara 😀💙
Very beautiful !!
Thank you Linda! 😀💜
Niki, you made me laugh when you were trying to pull the paint out, then get it over the corners and sides. That is something I would do, not you and I forgot it would dry clear. I cannot believe how much I love it dry. It is wonderful. You are allowed to say Atelier any way you want to.
I asked my daughter in Melbourne to go to her Spotlight and get me three Atelier colours I wanted. One of the was rich gold that I have been waiting for. I just called and was told she would get those posted, she bought them weeks ago. Thank you. ❤
Thank you very much Karen 😀💜 Such a silly mistake to not check how thick it was and just pour it on!
@@NikiDArt, it just shows you are normal. ❤️
Very pretty. Love all your work . Will have to try this
Thank you very much Mark 😀💙
Do more of these Niki 😍😍😍
Thank you Bree! 😘💜
ooh very different with the coloured background 😀
Thank you! 😀💙
Looks good 👍♥️
Thank you 😀💜
Incredible!!
Thank you Genevieve 😀💜
Gorgeous
Thank you! 😀💜
Beautiful
Thank you Theresa! 😀💜
Holy cow!! This is more than amazing. And I’ve never heard of Chinese white. Always learning new things from you girl!! I’ve never seen anything like this! Gail Burstyn did something similar a year ago. But with the sheleeart technique, it’s incredible! Thanks Niki.
Thank you very much Michelle 😀💜 No idea how I managed to catch it safely!
Oh this was a beautiful transformation. Love it's mysterious look.
Thank you Lana! 😀💜
Way cool
Thank you Pattyann 😀💜
OMG 😱! This is stunning 😍. I love the 3D effect Niki. This swipe appears to be just floating across the canvas. I’m looking forward to seeing your next attempt with this style. Especially now that you have worked out the kinks. You are amazingly talented. I love this piece ♥️🙏💐💐
Thank you so much Fiona! 😀💜 I've already thinned down some of the base, won't make that mistake again 😂
@@NikiDArt 🤣🤣
gorgeous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Marguerite! 😀💙
So cool! You r a true inspiration 🥰
Thank you very much Penny! 😀💙
Excellent, my favorite
Thank you very much Debora! 😀💙
And once again Niki, beautiful, wonderful colors. I might have to try an Ombré background of some kind. I was just thinking last night about a split base and I decided that I’d better get down the hang of swipes first, (spins are my favorite composition)
Thank you very much Carole 😀💙
@@NikiDArt of course. Always a pleasure
You never cease to amaze me. Your art is always fantastic no matter the problems you have with the paint!🤩😍🥰
Thank you so much Patti! 😀💜
Beautiful: etereal and yet bold! Great persistence too! ♥️
Thank you so much Margaret 😀💜
Absolutely brilliant
Thank you Gail! 😀💙
although there is always an element of chance in each work of your style, one can feel a very great mastery of your art. it is very touching and appealing.
I love it!
Thank you so much 😀💜
Absolutely beautiful! I love it! I did see a painter using Flotrol as the clear-drying pillow. Only saw it once and it was nice. But not as lovely as yours!
Thank you so much Elizabeth 😀💜 Yes I think Gail Burstyn first applied floetrol over one of her old pours so she could change it up
Turned out great!
Thank you Rosalie 😀💙
Nice!!! I think I'm might try this. The finish look is awesome. Luv your channel ❤️
Thank you very much Melissa! 😀💜 Don't make my mistake though of not checking the consistency beforehand lol!
Absolutely gorgeous! 😍
Thank you Robyn! 😀💙
Wow ! What a gorgeous piece of art Niki ! 💕
Thank you so much Cathy! 😀💜
Beautiful!
Thank you Gloria! 😀💙
Looks amazing !!❤
Thank you Olga! 😀💜
Gorgeous as always!
Thank you very much! 😀💙
It’s gorgeous Niki! I just loveeeee this! ❤
Thank you very much Wendy! 😀💜
Ha that base reminds me of jello or pudding or something lol . Anyways you made it work as usual :) another beauty!! 💕💕🐣
Yes super thick! 😂 I should have checked it before just pouring it on!
Thank you 😀💙
Very cool! With the background like that it really makes it look 3D. Reminds me of some strange critter coming out of the corner to attack! 😂
Thx for sharing your talent and creativity, Niki. 💜
Thank you very much Laurie 😀💜
@@NikiDArt You're very welcome Niki! 😊
Oh my Nikki!! I'm inspired!! So beautiful. Your art is by far my favorite!! I do have a quick question. Did you let the gradient dry before the pour or do it all at the same time?
Thank you very much! 😀💜 yes I left it 24 hours before applying the pillow and swiping
Excellent work! I’m curious how does it dry and leave the gradient background you painted at the beginning without completely been washed out by the pillow paint?
Thanks for sharing any knowledge you can.🙏🏼
Thank you! 😃 💜 the base/pillow is translucent, so dries clear
@@NikiDArt Oh Nice!! Thank you for the info, that’s really cool effect. 👌🏼
This is gorgeous!!!! Looked entirely different when it dried! Do you think it would work using American floetrol? That is usually thin and dries clear. Or is it too thin?
Thank you very much 😀💜 Yes it will work, Gail Burstyn has done that, not over an ombre background but over a previous pour.
What is the “ pillow” you swapped your colors into? It drys transparent. I also wondered about the ombré paint. This is new to me and would like to know more. Thank you.
You do beautiful work. Thank you your help. Julie Ann.
Thank you Julie 😀💜I explain at the beginning that it's my usual pouring medium minus the varnish. It's also listed in the description box of the video. I also show the paints I used to create the ombre look at the very beginning 😊
WoW! This technique is brilliant Niki! I am going to try it out but I've been having a problem when I mix my paints. I am using American Floetrol and Gac 800 as my pouring medium and when I mix it with the paint it lightens the tint dramatically. Even when adding a lot more paint its really affecting the vibrancy...any suggestions? And thankyou for your inspiration!
Thank you very much 😀💜 It should still dry clear, Gail Burstyn has applied American floetrol over a dried painting and then added to it and it dried clear
Gorgeous, what you used in this transparent pillow?? Floetrol or what???
Thank you very much 😀💙 I explain at the beginning of the video (I have subtitles enabled)
I also have everything listed in the description box of the video
Absolutely beautiful is it for sale?
Thank you very much! 😀💜 It's not saleable as the deep edges/sides have the drips from the waaay too thick pillow/base.
@@NikiDArt ide love to see it anyway, maybe it's not as bad as u think?
Hi , I love this . I dont understand where the white pillow went ? was it just varnish ? or a mixture . I have read your mix but still dont understand . Thanks Andy England UK
Thank you Andy 😀💙 Although it looks white is untinted transparent paint, so it dries clear
@@NikiDArt hi Niki , thank you for replying , I will try and sores this in England , you and this method has given me lots of ideas . Thank you Andy X
Where did you buy the Taubmans gloss?
I buy it from Bunnings or Mitre 10 😊
Question, if you use TLP's, do you use JoSonja? I wonder how you can use the torch, or can you mix TLP's with water alone?
Yes I use Jo Sonja, the info and link to my paint mixing vudeo is in the description box of the video. You do need to be careful, but I don't get close or hold the torch in one spot too long
