Why would you not want an action combat packed apocalypse game? New Vegas was great for its time, but it aged so badly. I tries NV again and after my 2024 playthrough I'm almost a hater. Big, empty, ugly, clunky, factions are way too animated, story doesn't hit like I thought it did. It just doesn't hold a candle to FO4. The settlement building is every immersive players dream and the map is stock full of things to do or find. Plus Fo4 on survival is how the game was meant to be played. It's an absolute masterpiece even years later.
That little company that FNV was outsourced to just happened to be made up of former black Isle studios employees the very studio that made fallout 1 and 2, that's why FNV is a much better rpg and Fallout game than 3, 4 or 76.
And yet the fall is so hard. from the money grabs of shelter and 76, to the no mans sky clone with less depth. this was the last bit of bethesda before big dollars broke todd howard.
Kotor 2, FNV, pillars of eternity, Neverwinter nights 2 and although not as good the outer worlds, obsidian is a testament to developers who actually care about making good games first and money second.
Played back in 2015 until 3am some nights, never got to finish because you know life and adulting. Almost 10 years later and with the help of the Amazon show I have a new interest and going back to the desert. Nice vid
Nice, well written that man. Just started a new playthrough this week. It's one of those games where I forget the amount of great voice actors that were involved. Raul: Danny Trejo, epic. Veronica too. Although Wasteland 2 didn't release until 2013, the original came out in 1988. To me, New Vegas was (at the time) the Wasteland 2 that we never got from Brian Fargo et al. Then a few years later we got Wasteland 2 and you can see where they drew inspiration from their ideas from Wasteland 2 (which they'd had conceptually ready since the 90s and may explain how both sides were happy with the timeline for development) for New Vegas, in my mind at least. The Cowboyish theme, the whole Desert Rangers gubbins, down to the villain controlling a bunch of robots/synths hidden under the base of a faction.. The reference to a water chip is on the money, the game cartridges in the desert - they have that love of dropping Easter eggs and pop culture references in Wasteland 2 that I loved from the isometric Fallouts. Much of which is lost in the hunt for a broader audience. Before they were happy for 10% to get a weird joke or comment, now it's as if everything has to hit with everyone or it isn't worth their time. Ends up feeling a little cliché if every jokoe has to land with everyone, a little too safe and uninteresting. New Vegas was not that.
You managed to describe the game very well, much respect. If you play it on pc you and you can get around modding, this game will never get old, people makes amazing content for free and you will enjoy it a loooot more
There's a mod that lets you keep playing after completing the main story, so you can play on, complete unfinished stuff, and see some of the effects your playthrough story had on the world! Pretty cool.
If something can be said, Starfield made me finally enjoy New Vegas. Idk if somebody got the same take but Starfield is pretty close to New Vegas while not reaching its peak of writing and dialogue
I played it for around 15 hours. I loved the vibe, the characters, the dialogue - plus it makes use of free choice way more than most RPGs that claim to do so. I did find it a little boring at times though, a lot of the side quests seemed pretty repetitive - like having to do all these chores for people... but saying that I'm not the biggest fan of open-world RPGs and for those who love the genre I'm sure this is pretty much perfect. I didn't have a problem with the graphics at all, obviously it doesn't look like newer games but the story and gameplay soon makes you forget that and you get totally absorbed. I'll probably give it another try at some point, especially now I found out about all the mods.
The Fallout series that came out got my partner into the series and I'm excited to get them into games and New Vegas or 4 was gonna be the first ones I put them on. I'm glad I got a pc to experience these games. My Xbox 360 died when I started my first playthrough of Fallout 3 I was so sad but I appreciate now because I have another series to deep dive into.
Also the modding community has brought so much more life to the older games obviously updated visuals are nice but the new weapons and adding modern mechanics to the game but mods like Tales of Two Wastelands I have been nonstop playing recently because it bring the entire game of Fallout 3 into New Vegas and being able to go between the Mojave and Capital Wasteland is so cool of course being able to use your sights in Fallout 3 is a god send lol
Bought the ultimate edition with all the dlcs in 2013 with the intention to play, but then I started working and went back to school. Life got busy, and only during Covid did I start FNV.
i just played my first fallout game last month and it's new vegas. all im gonna say is that it was a lot more fun than most of the recently released games i've played. kinda like playing skyrim for the first time again
Excellent video. I wasn't playing New Vegas at the time of release because I was invested in COD at the time as were most people my age, owned the game for like 5 years now and it was only last year I first played Fallout New Vegas on my Steam Deck and I fell in love with the game. Now one of my favourite games of all time. Such a good story, lore, gameplay, writing.. Everything is just spot on. Still play it now just to unwind.
Cool video! i'd like to point out though that the NCR is only really stretched out in the mojave. They're easily the largest & most developed faction in the wasteland & have wiped out pretty much every threat in california from San Fransico to San Diego. 40 years ago the NCR already controlled almost all of southern california. But the mojave is very much the fringe of the NCR, & they're overstretched with many of their best troops staying back in California.
To this day it pains me knowing what NV could have been if it had skipped PS3 like FO3 did, the most evident change is in the opening where the New Vegas is shown as one open area, as opposed to sections divided by barriers in the final release.
I'm disappointed that you did not mention the Brotherhood of Steel's presence in this game. They played an important part in the last game, and are an interesting side-addition to this game. Also, don't you need to become close with the brotherhood to use the power armor in the game? I didn't actually ever accomplish that up to this point. P.S. You should also quickly mention companions in these games. They play an important part. In this game, actually, they made it too easy, because when you have several companions at the same time, many areas you can just walk into, and stay out of the way while your companions clear it out, for better or for worse. You can pretty much make the game "Stop, or my traveling companions will shoot" LOL.
has anyone else noticed a recent uptick in Caesars Legion sympathizers? I swear I've stumbled on a handful of videos basically praising the legion for their brutal tactics with comments sections of losers cosplaying as fascists. a part of me would love to see these goons actually encounter a group as brutal as the legion and see if they still praise those philosophies
In this the modern age of gaming... That's a stupid question. No i wanna play seventy 💩s or hear Preston tell me to do HIS FREAKING RADIANT JOB ONE MORE TIME! CAUSE IT'S SO 🤬N RELAXING OR I CAN WATCH A LOADING OF 💩 SIMULATION OF COPY PASTE COWFIELD WALKING!!! hey how about naming you next video "do you like breathing oxygen or eating in 2023."
I started with Fallout 4 and played them all in reverse. All you guys who say NV is the best in the series are most definitely suffering from "back then" bias. The map is ugly (even for apocalypse standards) and way too empty. Having to walk (because sprinting doesnt exist) across this map had me losing all interest. The gameplay is CLUNKY to the point where its almost unplayable and the factions are so animated. When i see the NV fans crucifying FO4 for the sins that they clearly ignored in NV i just cant take them seriously. The N64 seemed like god tier gaming too but we were ignorant children and our standards didnt really exist. We were absolutely spoiled with FO4 and everything it offers. I cant even compare these older games to FO4 because they arent in the same league at all. You guys who disagree are fooling yourselves and hanging onto the glory days before we were dealing with any real problems. The world wasnt better back then, it sucked just as bad back then as it does today but when it comes to gaming, things have never been better

New Vegas was truly Fallouts peak. Just enough refinement over 3, and not at action/combat focused as 4 or 76.
100 % agree man

First we lost Mr House in 2019 (Rene Auberjonois) and now Benny, just as the Fallout Series is going to New Vegas for Season 2.
@@jamesknight3070 ...to ruin everything there just like in California.
