Suffice to say that my love for the Fallout franchise is gross. There's just a special, impossible to replicate magic between its music, characters, and stories. Truly, there's nothing like it. With the excitement of the Fallout TV show ramping up, it's time to dig into Fallout: New Vegas for the millionth time.

Unfortunately named app.... Story averse? Lol
No.
Let's never ever forget that metacritic score was 84... a single bloody point from allowing Obsidian to get Royalties, a bonus offered by Bethesda at the time... :P
The way New Vegas did their DLC should be studied by any dev that plans to do DLC. The base game gestures at the stories within them, and when you play them, not only do they enrich the base game by adding narrative and depth to its characters and the themes, but they also serve to tell their own individual stories and each have a different tone and style. An absolute masterclass of doing DLC.
I disagree, i like completely separate stories. I believe there are less roleplay options in nv compared to 3 because every dlc, side quest is somewhat tied to the main story leaving little room to rp. Roleplaying isnt the same as freedom of choice within a narrative.
GTA IV did DLCs perfectly as well
@merksmovies25 Except each DLC is a separate story? There's only hints here and there to the conclusion that's in lonesome Road.
You can completely choose what way you want the story to turn out like in each dlc.
@@somebodyelse2192 but they are still all connected narratively to each other. They are great dlc but storywise its all connected. Hell in fallout 3 i can start as a cowboy cryogenically frozen in space, or as abe lincoln freeing the wasteland, or as a treasure hunter on a boat to point lookout. New vegas you can roleplay alot, just you are restricted a bit more compared to 3. Nv is stilla top 5 game all time
And Obsidian did it in an insanely short time frame. Studios today take 5x longer to make games today and they come out as incomplete garbage (story wise) that’s never fixed.
Yeah that stretch of Fallout 3 all the way to Skyrim is still one of the most exciting times of gaming for me. I had just got deep into Oblivion and I saw my Dad playing Fallout 3, so I hopped onto that after I finished Oblivion. So I got Oblivion, F3, FNV, and Skyrim all back to back. It was peak.
We could have never known the drout that would follow!
Almost sounds like reading novels lol each is a masterpiece
@@donjuan8124the games are quite like a “choose your own adventure” novel lol up to a certain point, but still!
Literal peak gaming. Bethesda disappointed me BIG time with starfield. I was hoping for another iconic game coming from Bethesda but boy was I wrong. Starfield is mid at best compared to other Bethesda games. Elder scrolls 6 better be legendary.
@@dracolakeworldliterally feels like they just took things from each of their successes and watered it down over 6 years(the same time it took to make the masterpiece that is baulders gate 3) and then released the most mid game I’ve ever played lol I mean all the cryo labs are the same layout. They couldn’t even make several different layouts?

THE BIG IRON ON HIS HIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPP
My favorite feature of this game is how you can repair weapons or body armors by swapping parts from two of a kind without requiring a workbench. None of the other Fallout games have this feature.
The ammo crafting was dope too

Matty brings Benny to life when he talks to us as the player. We miss you Matty!!😢
The Open Strip mod makes all the difference in appreciating The Strip. It's awesome being able to see all the casinos instead of 2-3
As it was originally intended to be before they changed it for launch, blessed be dedicated mod authors - be sure to endorse their work if you enjoy. 😁
It unfortunately makes the game unstable and breaks a lot of scripts, I don’t recommend it
Good mod but broken as hell, like actually an absolutely broken and unstable mess of a mod but it still does it's job well (apart from the technical issues).
@@RobertMaximus09 Huh I remember a mod that opened it all up just fine with issues, maybe there's another mod similar that I was meaning instead.
@@RobertMaximus09 Try the "Simple Strip Open" it was the last one I downloaded on Nexus, so maybe this is the one I remember working, could vary though.
New vegas will remain the ultimate fallout game. A game that blends the world, characters, weapons, leveling, ... and mixes the original fallout games with the next generation fps/RPG mechanics. I'm still stunned that they made it in a year and half.
I disagree, i think its a great game but weaker rp game compared to 3. There may be more choice in new vegas but the roles and stories you can tell are very limited. There are so many roles and stories to tell in fallout 3. New vegas has the side quests and dlc all tying into the main quest which takes away from the stories and roles that can be explored.
@@merksmovies25 I do understand your perspective. Bethesda's quests are written in a way that you remain central to every faction. While New Vegas makes you feel like a nobody in the beginning. You have to earn the trust of most factions before they start to center you in their plans. On the gameplay front i do feel like as an RPG it truly gives u far more options to play your way than any other Bethesda Fallout game.
It asks you to get to know the world and ask deeper questions (just like a more traditional RPG) in terms of your build and the story. The way Obsidian makes their games is to answer almost every question about anything in the world, while Bethesda keeps everything mostly vague when it comes to the harder questions.
@@HeyMyNameIs... hmm fair enough, thats why i i think i love nv still. They both offer different thing and are good at different things. One thing to note, i enjoy doing permadeath runs on heardest difficulty, new vegas is the far more difficult game to get through.
I’m not stunned at all, the amount of bugs and how often it crashes is a clear indicator
And has plenty of bugs and ones that mess up side quests
I would 100% be into you doing a deep dive into what the community of fallout 3 and new vegas has been cooking for the last half decade. Improvements to the modding scene with applications such as wabbajack and installers, and the massive overhaul of tale of two wastelands and on top of all that things like capital punishment that offer the best fallout experience to date.
I’d definitely be up for it too!!
fo3 modding community is sadly dead since the GFWL patch completely fucked the scene

Playing New Vegas on the steam deck is fantastic
Couldn’t agree more, getting mods setup is a bit tricky but worth it 👌
Yup. Haven’t modded it yet but perfect game for the deck
It was a challenge for me too compared to other but definitely worth it@MartyRC
I'm actually working on getting it running with viva new vegas! Can't wait to try it out
I would hope so. It’s a 13-14 year old game right? Steam deck better be able to.
Yo! I've been replaying this the last 3 weeks and I'm hooked all over again!
Ate this video up!! Fallout new vegas will always be my fav game of all time PERIOD and im so glad to see my fav RUclips channel putting mad respect on it!!! Good vid matty
I will NEVER forget learning what happened to Boones wife and what he had to do with her…his companion story/quests will forever be engrained in my head
Him and Jericho (from Fallout 3) were my favorites early on, though these days I'd say Fawkes from Fallout 3 and Cass, Boone and Raul are my favorites now on the top of my head.
Yeah, FNV companions are really fleshed out compared to FO3 and FO4 (Dont get me wrong, they are also great. But FNV companions felt real because their lore was really shown) Raul's story journey with his sister, Cass backstory on how she ended up in Mojave.
Yo Matty, just want to say thanks for everything you do. Been watching since about 2019 and you’re one of the hardest workers on RUclips and also manage to stay super positive and wholesome all the time. So yeah man please keep it up because I think I speak for all of us when I say you’re one of the few RUclipsrs whose videos I actively look forward to.
I'm on my 6th or 7th playthrough and don't plan on stopping. New vegas will always be my Favorite RPG
Me too
I've played through it dozens of times and will never stop playing it
What did you think of bg3?
@@stephengrigg5988 Don't have it yet
Its the only one I can't get into. Like for years. I'm trying it again today cus I wanna clock it
A golden Era in games.
About Las Vegas day and night. IRL Las Vegas up to the 80s/90s was like 2 different cities occupying the same space. At night, the Strip was lit up like an adult version of Disneyland. During the day, it looked like any other small city in America. I was surprised at how well Obsidian had captured the feel.
Been saying since the beginning. Dead Money is absolutely goated. The Sierra Madre is one of if not the most uniquely interesting locations in all of Fallout.
People just didnt like it because its hard lol
About to play both of these right now. I just completed the Zion DLC and have the main game/map played all the way out, sans the Hoover Dam. Good thing I read ahead or I would of completed that first before the DLC.
The enemies and exploration are a pain to deal with but everything else was amazing
@@Hughesburnersame lol this will actually be my first time playing dead money I've never played it saved it for last and then forgot and that was like back in 2014
Remember buying dead money mutiple times but still never got round to playing it, mad to think fo nv is still one of the games I play alot aswell to.
You know what they say!
“Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.”
I adore this game, it was my first of the series and I got it for like $3 at GameStop around 2014. One of my favorite memories was just listening to the game’s radio with my grandfather because he overheard it and liked a lot of the songs. It’s still a game I go back to to mess around in every now and then.
I really liked the ending, whichever one you got, it was very unique, very powerful, and the way you had each person read there own fate and you can see the world you left behind whether it be bad or good, just so powerful.
I love the fallout community 😊seeing you all so passionate about this series is incredible. I started mines with 76 and honestly enjoy it , but was recommended to play new Vegas . Boy that was a fantastic experience now I’m on 3!
Raul's shack is in the game because Raul is a companion you can find in the quest with Tabitha, in Black mountain
I’m happy you stayed with RUclips. You got a new loyal subscriber in me
I fucking love this game. It is my #1 Favorite game of all time. I got it when I was like 11 years old as soon as it came out and I spent hundreds of hours in this world. This game is the reason I fell in love with both obsidian and Bethesda and I have not been the same gamer since. I just got the platinum a couple days ago in preparation for the show coming out and it is 9PM ET and the show just dropped on Amazon. What I fucking moment Lmao
I also was playing this game at around 11 years old and each time I played there was more and more I understood as I aged. Really cool experience I think
@@noware.3Dthe game’s messaging has many layers, the more you understand about society and politics the more you understand this game
the show looks like it was written by a foreign government propaganda arm
@@noware.3Dyea I played Bethesda games when I was younger and had no idea what I was doing😂 kept going back to certain Bethesda games every couple years until it finally clicked
Currently replaying this game myself and this time I’m actually pretty enjoying it currently :), great video dude
Thanks for going through the game manual! Totally brought a flood of memories back this was one of the last games my dad bought me before he passed away. So yeah thanks.

Do a full run once a year, something like that. Always enjoy it so much, would love a remaster.
My favorite of all-time Fallout, the songs, the environment, factions, etc - chef's kiss. 🤠
Good to see your doing well Mr Matty, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen uou
Love your channel! Subscribed
Fallout New Vegas is not my favorite fallout game but it has my favorite moments. Walking to Utah in honest hearts and when you get there it’s a fine pretty rain it’s a memorable moment cause I never saw weather really in fallout before.
I've always been a lover of the story you piece together in the honest heart dlc, obtaining the unique ranger armor and the gun. ❤
I think a cool little detail people miss out on is the ghost voices you can hear in the goodsprings graveyard that triggered me as a kid to myth hunt in Fallout New Vegas like I did in GTA SA.
6:52 "Account for different kinds of play styles" as he's wielding a goddamn lightsaber 🤣
Raul’s shack is great, all that stuff PLUS a Guns and Bullets
Let's also give a nod to Matthew Perry for giving such a great performance as Benny.
Can’t tell if this is a joke, bennys voice acting is quite bad
@@gettingcheeky6597 Yeah, some regular actors don't make a good transition to voice over work and some mediocre actors are much, much better at V/O work. Perry in this one and Marina Sirtis in the first Mass Effect were not so good. Conversely, Mark Hamil...OK I'm going to stop there..let's just say he's a MUCH better V/O actor based on his Joker alone...
Great Timing on this video! Fallout series was great. Now I want to play Fallout again lol
New Vegas still holds up! It's AMAZING!
I’m actually doing my second playthrough now (I beat it and the dlcs once it launched then put through game down), and I have to say I’m really enjoying it way more this time around, def excited to revisit all the dlcs
Fun fact: I still have my New Vegas collector's edition from my PS3 days. The hardcover book and poker chips are legit.
Replaying it right now and its amazing still in 2024.
New Vegas was one of those games that you get from the Kmart bin and you don’t realize it, but you just found your forever game. I would love if they brought some love to it like they did for Fallout 3 with the hdr boost on Xbox.
Shoutout Grohlvana! Great Video.
I finally subbed over here matty sorry bout the delay lol 😂 keep up the great work
All time great intro!!!
My boy been hitting them weights!💪🏽
Joshua Graham is one of the best examples of religious characters in video games. So well written. I visited Zion National Park in 2022 because of him.
I want to leave a secret memorial to Randall Clark there. 😂
Had an idea to name the couriers last name Clark to suggest his family might have made it to a vault
"this series is my spirit animal". Quote of the year! Fallout 4 storywealth modpack highly recommended
Outer Worlds is the closest experience to NV we can have in a somewhat modern game.
raul’s shack was there bc when you have him as a companion he can repair your equipment there
I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Took me through some nastalgia because this is exactly how I felt about new Vegas as a kid/pre teen. I thought it was kinda boring and all that jazz until I realized what made this game great. All the story’s and side quests and how unique they all are. This game is and will forever be a masterpiece! I wish I could go back to my first play through and appreciate it as much as I do now.
Good video, I actually haven't played the DLC (I played the vanilla with non crash mods a few years ago) but I'm playing fallout 3 (for the first time) and NV again with the tales of two wastelands mod list and I'm having a blast!
PS: I love the DBZ buus fury poster in the back!
I installed New Vegas a few days ago, then installed about 50 mods from a comprehensive list I found on Steam. It's a completely different game, with soooo many quality of life features added in. I'm loving it. My Favorite mod is the one that opens the wasteland after completion of the main story so you can keep exploring and playing the DLC, post main story.
Dead Money FTW! Probably the first proper "survival horror" experience I had. I feel it's the experience that led me to trying Silent Hill and Resident Evil for the first time and for that alone it holds a very special place in my heart ❤
I always find myself coming back to new Vegas and Skyrim at least once every 6-8 months. Will forever be a staple for me.
Back in the days leading up to the release of Fallout 4 you did those "road to platinum" videos for the fallout games, would be cool if you did such playthroughs again :)
Hits different after Matthew Perry's passing
Benny lives from now on*
About to play new Vegas for the first time with some mods. Excited to start
I've been replaying "New Vegas" over the last 6 weeks or so. As an adult with adulting to do, it takes a lot of time. It's funny to me what I do and don't remember, and how much fun it is to explore all over again regardless. Two things really pop out that everyone should know in case they're interested in replaying:
#1: If you're going to replay on PC, it takes some work to get going properly. Took me the better part of an afternoon to set up vortex and get everything lined up so it could be played at all. I'm playing a "vanilla modded", as in: it's totally vanilla, but it runs way better because of optimization mods. I recommend it that way.
#2: Play it on PC just like that. The original used to have terrible freezing issues due to memory. I never got through a FULL-full playthrough due to crashing late-game. I had to speedrun stuff and do individual DLCs, then restart a save to do another one to keep the save size down, and even though FO:NV is still my favorite Fallout, those technical issues were the things keeping it from being my favorite GAME: Full Stop. We can clear that up now because we live in the future.
Really happy you went back, Matty. I'll be on your Discord soon if you want to do any discussion on it. I'm OG Day 1 '97 Fallout LoL Almost burned up my VooDoo3 3000 video card and 586 processor back in the day. Love your work, man.
Sound advice. Tried playing an unmodded steam version and it was crash city on PC.

wow....I just started to replay this after a long while...
Watching this after finishing Fallout season 1 🔥
Man got da big iron on da hip he go bang bang bang good game 10/10
Just bought it on steam for 2.49 usd on my steam deck, brings back memories. Haven’t played it since release around 12-14yrs ago on 360. I’ll be 28 this year and I’m more NV than 3. It’s the first Fallout I beat then moved to try 3, then so on. I was too young to understand the games fully then.
Lonesome road is what i consider the single best bgs dlc from that era if you actually comb through everything available in it the vibe on the first playthrough is across the board just fkn surreal
Ill die on that hill
I played old world blues at like level 10 and it was the most painful experience of my life
I'm looking forward to revisiting New Vegas, because I've never beaten it(since I preferred 3 as a kid, and whenever I choose to replay one of the older games it tends to be 3, which I never finish on my replays, but just have fun).
I'm reaching the end of the Capital Wasteland portion of A Tale of Two Wastelands(not too modded for the core experience not to be tampered with too much)for the first time, so I'm pumped to make my way to the West.
The expansions were so amazing for this game. I loved running across the map ASAP so I could do Honest Hearts, than Old World Blues than Dead Money and finally Lonesome Road before I actually did the core game. I liked to play up the idea that the courier had to go on a quest to re-find themselves and realize the true cost of war by the end of Lonesome Road they are ready to save Vegas. LOL I even made a point to memorize all the parts that needed skill checks so I could lvl up enough those stats so I would always win the skill checks ;P
I started my first playthrough of FNV just this month, April of 2024. I am level 21 and I LOVE it!
Fallout 3 was my 1st but Hardcore mode in NV and Survival mode in Fallout 4 are the best ways to play! I want hardcore mode in Fallout 3!
Since starting to watch Retro Rebound I’ve been playing my PS3 a whole lot and I’m beginning to realize…. I think it was the best era of gaming ever. We ate SO WELL and didn’t even realize it at the time.
Damn man I'll be playing NEW VEGAS IN 2050!!!! Hopefully we get a sequel by then haha
About that... how do I break the news?
I still have the Fallout New Vegas 360 copy with the paper sleeve and everything 🤤
This is my favorite game of all time did everything you can do in new Vegas including get the secret alien gun so much content in 1 game
How did you even get the game to run after the main menu? I try'd to load the game.. insta crash. using the NVSE stuff.
Thanks matty for the video i just started playing vegas as you uploaded oddly enough😂 heres my thoughts on NV man this game is epic
First off. Best fallout game ever. Idk how some people have never played it? In my eyes and many others its a top 1-10 game ever made and for me probably top 3 next to ff7 and the witcher 3. Its just damn near perfect. What this game that other fallouts (bgs mainline games) is the choices. You saw some great choices in 3 like the bombing of megaton and what not but it wasnt there as much only at certain points. New vegas has choices from the very beginning with Joe Cobb to killing or letting Legate Lanius go. And with lonesome road and being able to bomb the camps and see how they react to you is just wow…. The side quests are all great theres not one that sticks out as bad. The reward for exploration in new vegas is amazing and something BGS has lost. Its like with Starfield, i paid 110 bucks for it…beat it and put 50jrs in now im not returning til it has mod support. Theres no gift for wonderment. Vegas rewards players for trying to uncover vaults, faction history and whatever else. The random encounters are good. The companions like Boone and Lily and the brotherhood gal its awesome.
10/10 masterclass rpg. As you said with cyberpunk just imagine cp2077 got the world and rpg elements of a new vegas and used that as a template instead of gta….. itd probs be the best experience in modern gaming next to witcher and red dead. Truly. Thanks for the vid and reminding others how great this childhood gem is
most overrated game in the franchise
@@megadeth8592 based on what?!?! Nobody plays fallout 1. Fallout 2 is good but niche in this era i respect it tho only played it a bit. Fallout 3 im replaying right now. Great game with some flaws but with the dlc in mind it has misses. New vegas hit every single spot rpg wise and world wise. It has a better story than any game and character wise it clears. 4 is the black sheep for me. Its a bug fest action game its not really an rpg. They ruined alot of grit the universe has. 76 is trash and not worth playing. So how is new vegas the most overrated its only competition is 3. It pays homage to 2 and does 3 better than bethesda did even down to dlc content. Please explain.
I agree with you about dead money definitely my fav along with old world blues
Time to watch another mandatory FNV video essay 😞

I'm revisiting this game on my Steam Deck. I am absolutely loving it
Does it run and play well??
@TheRealJackArthur it does, about 15 hours in with one crash. Consistent frame rate with no mods
Yeah playing on steam deck to it even works wth mods there are some yt tutorias on how to set it up on steam deck and the battery life while playing fallout just seems endless xD
The Golden Age started at 2006 to me - Oblivion came out and elevate the gaming industry to the entirely next level. Then 2 years later came Fallout 3 came out, then another 2 years and here comes Skyrim.
We've been eating so good. I can't believe I got to play so many Bethesda games before I even finished a school. It's such an unthinkable in today climate, or even the era prior (it took almost 6 years after Morrowind for Oblivion to come out.) And not even mentioned heaps after heaps of DLC. Fallout 3 have like what? 5 expansions? Oblivion came with even more than that and NV not that far behind. Today we are lucky to get just 3.
FO tactics is an underrated gem. Played the hell out of that when it released way back in the day.
I’m only gonna play this when it gets a remaster if it ever does
I just started for the first time 3 days ago and i cant get into the NCR prison to get a new sheriff for Primm. The guy at the gate is a badass apparently. He keeps killing me.

Just finished it today for my first time, it’s great
I kinda like the Xbox case, it’s cool seeing new art on the box
I tried playing it too but for some reason it won't play on my PC, and I was very interested in this video until you started talking about the case and manual. I would recommend placing that near the end of the video, was kind of random of that being in the middle of the video.
I remember playing Fallout 1 and 2 after college in my newly made up work station at home and being blown away. Also blown away by Fallout 3 when it cane out. Never got to NV...
It's great! Just like when it first came out.
Can't wait for the second season of the show. I'm so happy and thankful that they decided to build and expand upon NV instead of leaving it behind. Imagine revisiting the mojave wasteland to see some of the familiar locations and characters, to learn how some of the communities and towns are doing 15 years after the 2nd battle of Hoover dam and which of them got the best endings thanks to the player's actions. I hope Lucy and co reach Vegas at night to see its lights illuminate the sky. And you bet, there's gonna be a scene of Coop playing poker in one of the casinos 😂
With all my love to New Vegas I keep playing it mostly to experience again Dead Money dlc. It is perfect - characters, writing, atmosphere, challenge, story, just everything.
