  • Operation Pakari in Southland earlier this year saw more than 20 people arrested for violent offences, including attempted murder, after incidents across the region last year including drive-by shootings.
    Those arrested all have links to the Mongrel Mob, and many of them are due back in court in Invercargill next month.
    Here’s Southland Area Commander, Inspector Mike Bowman, with a rundown on what the operation means for the community.

    Great job New Zealand Police. Thank you for keeping us informed and the zero tolerance approach for this type of behaviour.

    Always wonder how crime and policing in NZ compares to my native UK. I imagine it's fairly similar in terms of crimes and types of people.

      Policing seems to be a lot more community based with beats and patrols more common in NZ. The trust and appreciation is also greater

      @@pepperroni6252 that's good. UK used to be like that but funding cuts over years and years have stripped all that away. Barely any community policing left

      @@GeorgeThoughtsnot just funding cuts but a lack of respect make a hard job even harder. Police are there to serve and help the community but if the community doesn't respect them they will quit

      New Zealand also has mostly unarmed police.

    It would be good to see a video of any specific police rituals/cultural things. For example, I see in America some police have a kind of sign off ceremony on their last day on the job where they radio in to dispatch and the dispatcher thanks them for their service and gives some radio code (I forget what the code is).
    Any particular rituals for new recruits? Retiring officers? First day on the job?

    • @Zimnaan
      @Zimnaan 9 месяцев назад

      I believe the most common sign off code is 10-7, 10-42. May be they say End of Watch (EOW), but I'm not too sure on that.
