you don't have to be "productive" at all time... here's how I do it

  • A sudden realisation when I was struggling with waking up every single day to face essay writing season is that... my best does not have to be the same every day.
I have always been a high-functioning individual and many asked me "where you get that energy from?". It is usually the result of forcing myself to work, latching my identity to it, and fear of not being useful.
While it has served me in some ways, it has also become a boomerang in that I face a highly fluctuating energy level. When I forced myself to work almost 18 hours a day, I would crash on Sunday before picking up the routine again. It wasn't healthy and I dreaded waking up each day.
So I changed the way I work. If at any given day I can only give "this" much as my 100%, so be it. Even if my 100% looks like 10% each day, I allowed it - so long as I was being consistent and achieving just one thing each day. No matter what.

this was actually (surprisingly) really helpful even if the advice was really simple and basic. It just doesnt always occur on the low-energy days, and im also an infj! so i basically either do double or nothing but next time will keep this in mind, thanks again!

Thank you so much for this video! It's actually my first time commenting on a yt vid because I can totally relate. My energy fluctuates from time to time and sometimes it just makes me really sad when I can't bring myself to do anything. Anyway, u reminded me that it's okay to not always be productive or constantly doing something... that at times, accomplishing one task in a day, big or small, is enough. Self-compassion goes a long way indeed.

Just watched it and I like the way you describe this ubiquitous way of managing time in a different way while embossing new idea in being you. Looking forward to new upcoming videos. I already subscribed!

omg LOOK AT CHU being so compassionate to yourself !!!!! I'm totally the same (even though I think you know this bc I must've rambled on about human design to you last time we met lol but if i didn't.......) my energy fluctuates so much and I just embrace that because I trust that I will at some point have high energy and when I do... I can do everything twice as quickly as when I try to force myself on lower energy days. anyway, here to give you a lil' ol' pat on the back because it's really hard to unlearn this programming of attaching our worth as human beings to productivity when it's the system we've been living in for SO freaking long. so yay!!

Hi Viancqa, thank you for documenting your experience for postgrad at Cambridge - Surprisingly little information online, especially for specific courses.
I'm actually in the early stages of prepping my application for Development Studies. I wanted to know if there are interviews in the application process for the course?
Also any last minute tips? :D
    Thanks

Hey Jon, there's no interview! I also have a lot of resources under my Oxbridge Application Series playlist - really recommend you to check it out

@@Viancqa thanks for the response - good to know as I tend not to perform to my best in interview situations - defo the nerves!
Apologies if not appropriate, but I’ve sent you a LinkedIn request as was hoping to ask a couple course-specific questions - Hopefully is okay with you!
Thanks for your help + making these videos though - Really is a unique assortment of information that is amazingly very difficult to find elsewhere online!
