So I’ve played before and after and I’ve played all three games. This patch just made the game worth it IMO. I think it needs some tweaks here and there but overall this is exactly the direction they needed to go. It’s not more like 2, it’s more like COH1 and while I think they should push it just two points more towards the grit and brutality of 1, this is a very good push in that direction. It’s a big improvement. I only play PvE so the theatrics of the battle matter most to me and that’s really what we got here.
same.. :) Still too afraid to play multiplayer but I'm down to replay italian and african campaign one last time. :) Soon selling my gaming PC and retiring from gaming for now ;( haha
I think devs sometimes forget how powerful good sound and effect design can be for a game experience. They did a great job with this update, and definitely improves the overall gameplay.
FINALLY! After so many month of small changes FINALLY we see the patch that I call the good one. I do support every single change in this, first time in intire lifecyrcle of the coh 3. This time I can easaly say "well done relic, well done".
Okay i LOVE the vehicle changes! The death animation AS MORBID as they are. Needed to be improved. 11:00 The before and afters is looking closer to COH 2 and COH 1 style. Like a true combination of both! I like it. 14:15 Personally i would rather have to click twice than select the wrong path down the battle group tree. It has happend to me before :( the mouse slips and that is it. You are locked out of your choice and strategy. I personally love this change. the fact that you can turn it on and off is the cherry on top. The dev team REALLY nailed this. Excellent job. I love mostly everything.
Agreed outstanding upgrade, reaching between coh1 & 2, the double click to confirm is absolutely needed as it was my first reflex (and probably same for most people) when trying to "validate" the abilities ^^
My biggest problem is still the vehicle death animations. They looked so much more impactful in CoH2, and the brew up animations added a lot of variety.
They look terrible in coh2, CoH3 is so much more detailed, it's not a toy story jump in the air coh2 style thank the gods xD The transitions from animated asset to static wreck asset is still a little bit abrupt on some vehicles though, and that I would concede is prob the last thing to fine tune if ever possible :° Same for recoil impacts on tanks, CoH3 was originally more stoic, I'm a bit sadened they amped it up just a little too much to coh2 levels with 1.7, but hey not so bad!
Bringing back the BGM from the previous game would be a great addition to the visuals, and I hope Relic Entertainment makes the investment to re-sign the composers to reuse the music.
Finally bought the game on this sale. Shame it came out in the state that it did but I'm glad they stuck to it. Honestly they should have just early accessed it
Another thing id really like to see is when tab cycling through a control group is for it to be like in CoH 2 where only the selected individual squad would be white on the map rather than the whole group.
I did some testing with the audio too earlier. I didnt have enough time to do more testing but i tested a hellcat and sherman and compared their sound of fire. When both units fire their main gun it sounds like the same audio file was used just that the hellcat sounds a bit louder. As it is now, it's really hard to hear what you are up against when you aren't looking. In coh2 you can ALWAYS hear what is firing in the distance or on camera. If it was the engine note of a KT or a Panther blitzing with its vet 1 abillity or a Jackson or a firefly firing. I was hoping more unique engine and firing sounds like coh2 had. Lighting, visual effects and shadows look much better. But I also have problems differentiating what unit i'm up against. Alot of infantry units look the same. There ist something unsatisfying going on with the colors to recognize what units you are up against.
well its one of those things where coh1 and coh2 made up their own effects for gameplay whereas coh3 went for a realism look. If you watch videos of MBTs firing their 120s they all sound the same. A big gun is gonna sound like a big gun, not a specific one.
@@Schaden-freude the game is not a WW2 simulation. People have to stop this „BuT iTs reaLisTic“ narrative. It’s suppose to be Arcady, it’s suppose o be competitive. You need to hear the differences of what’s going on on the battlefield. Besides this audio doesn’t sound anything realistic. Gates of hell is the only game I know that gets the sound right in a RTS and it’s going the realism path, which is okay.
They both have the same cannon so why would they not sound the same? And if you look back at what people wanted before the game came out they said realism. Most people don’t understand that the giant explosions from coh1 and 2 aren’t real at all nor are the sound which personally i think sound like trash for the most part. Coh3s consistency is way more pleasant to listen to and is actually more realistic.
@@bro3217 Show me who said that. I can’t remember anyone saying that and I was all along there. And no they don’t have the same cannon. The 76mm is longer and high velocity unlike the 75mm on the 75mm medium velocity gun on the Sherman.
@@MasterSteve_117 I didn't claim it was a simulation. Specifically relating to audio, which is vastly different to CoH1 and CoH2 compared to CoH3, as we already established. Try reading someone's post before you engage in bad faith arguments with your perma internet brain. Nobody with any sense claims CoH is a simulation series. It is however erroneous to claim that CoH does absolutely 0 simulation. I agree with you that everything should be distinct to recognize because it's a video game, I merely stated an observation. Stop being so defensive over nothing.
This patch is a massive win for Relic, the only thing they need to do now is let the AI use garrisons and plant more mines and it will be on par with CoH 2's AI. Multiplayer changes are very good, hopefully the steam store page reviews can rise above mixed soon.
How the physics were not implemented from the get go is baffling. COH2 had really good physics and tanks felt and sounded awesome. I don't know why not just take that formula and polish it. I get that the code might have been made from ground up but still, stuff like vehicle physics should not be that hard to do in 2023. Anyways... nice vid. Time to reinstall? :D The removed pop cap for planes on italy campaign is awesome. I just wish they would also rmove time limits to certain map objectives so that you could play a bit more tactiful, slow and vet up your army. Because on the first playthrough you had to really rush to the finish line because of time requirements meaning you only finish maxing out your squads when u finish the game.. which is kinda meh :)
They use the camera's position and its distance from the sound source instead of the camera's view and angle; that's why it was louder when they were off-screen, which makes sense as the sound source was just below the camera.
I bought it on the big sale. I have to say I’ve really been enjoying the Italian campaign. COH3 has been getting panned by many, and rightfully so, but I think it was essentially an early access game. I’d understand if they released as early access truthfully but that doesn’t seem to be the trend with bigger devs. At least they’re still working on making it more like the COH we know.
Very excited to see them tune the audio. I love how the riflemen squad sounds now, but I feel like the axis weapons haven't been tuned enough. I am also not a big fan of the attenuation change, it makes me feel like I am deaf on one ear.
Sound in 2 was unreal. I used to feel the anxiety of scouting out a fresh skirmish. The intensity of it! Then hearing an MG ripping from across the map and getting sweaty as as my mates on comms begin cursing. Even when you were expecting it,,, it would still terrify you!
Perhaps the lower volume for units firing further away (out of screen) brings the audio cues like the grenade audio cue more to the foreground. For me personally that sounds like a great change.
Can you also include on the audio video of tanks moving on fog war, on coh2 is clear when you can hear tanks moving, but in coh3 is not the case as much.
So as a Veteran I hate to admit this but listening to the audio test the sound tests were killing my hiring at different angles (especially the right side) were killing me... tinnitus and hearing loss are so fun. I didnt know my hearing was that bad. lol
a lot of great improvements, the only visual thing that needs tweaking imo is the screen shake from high-intensity artillery call ins like zeroing arty or the italian infantry registered arty. in team games, it becomes pretty ridiculous pretty quick
never played coh3, and probably never will, dont like how it looks, but i love watching your videos when eating or smoking, learned so much from you in coh2.
Gotta say, while I love these changes overall, I really dislike the hollywood fireballs they added to explosives. I've always appreciated that alot of the explosives in these games were just a flash and then dirt and shrapnel everywhere, (with some exceptions, usually for rockets)
I might just come back to COH3 after a year + break. The audio immersion needs the most work and it's still not quite there after this patch. I'm one of the few people that thinks the small arms audio was better in the beta 'test' and I was really bummed when it was changed to more closely match COH2. But yeah, audio immersion. Important.
Love the new update! Feels like the devs slapped a coh2 sticker onto the coh3 tank they made 🤙 absolutely love the vehicle recoil. Reminds me of coh2!!
Havent noticed it in gameplay yet, but has the absurdly loud sound of the USF Engineer SMGs from across the map been fixed? Seemed like you could always hear a really loud click at the start/end of bursts nomatter how far away they were
From what I hear, the in game benchmark has variance from run to run. Makes it hard to draw conclusions from. Also has a stationary camera so issues like moving the camera on max image quality shown here wouldn't be highlighted in the test. But I might do a settings video at some stage. My GPU is also so powerful now that I can run max settings at my monitors refresh rate just fine. That wasn't the case back in COH2, with my GTX 1070/1080
Have you checked the soldier and vehicle scale. Watch engineers compared to the wire they deploy or AT gunners compared to their 6pdr. The Matilda now seems to move too fast or is it just the suspension making it look fast, it seems to bounce around now? The grant and churchill seem too small as in the grant should be taller and the churchill generally larger? Soldiers are just hard to see skins on now or identify without playing icon wars.
Great that camera shake can be reduced to 0%. I hate when games implement camera shakes for effect. Sure it aims to create some immersion , but it can also cause nausea, especially in 1st and 3rd person games.
Oh, the game is finally achieving a somewhat playable state? Not bad. I wonder if they will ever remember CoH1's infantry AI existing, or change the awful voices, but probably not
One thing I’d really like to see is more historically accurate uniforms, and also extra factions these guys have plenty of material to work with I don’t know why they just stay with two 2-3 factions and just leave it there.
personally I dont like that you stop hearing the fighting completely when really far away. It would be a good step for immersion that you could hear really faint sounds of the fighting no matter where you are on the map

Many of the changes here don't make a significant impact for me. I'm still looking for some rebalance corrections as it feels like the British start off far stronger and get to a point to sweep away opposition with the Stuart rush far faster than anyone else can. The Afrikacorps have a comparatively very slow start compared to everyone else especially with how expensive the first barracks structure is to just get an MG team. A lot of this feels disproportionate when playing online. I also still find the campaign dull just in the way the mechanics are done. I get the concept they were attempting to do a Total War style campaign it just didn't feel like it worked very well in the implementation being done. I'll agree that the audio sounds quite a bit better. As someone who has shot most of those rifles the new sounds are far more accurate to the actual weapons.
Is CoH3 any good now? Asking as an OG CoH1 fan and a quite new CoH2 fan (got into coh2 around 2 years ago) who bought coh3 at launch and was absolutely apalled by it.
can't answer your question but as someone who was also an OG Coh1 player and was appalled at how Coh2 launched I guess anything is possible since I love Coh2 now (like you been playing for last two ish years)
Played it after the patch. Matches on average in 4v4 last around 9 mins. I think they next patch needs to once again focus on balance, ticket bleed, and fun gameplay because this unfortunately still isnt it

MY GTX 1060 6gb with 12gb RAM finally can handle high texture
As someone who has shot most of those rifles the new sounds are far more accurate to the actual weapons.
what is the name of the app you are using to show the keyboard and mouse like that ?
nicee
It seems like they removed all the colour from the game with the lighting changes, which seems a shame in a mediterranean setting.
What happende to the Rank system? no one has a Rank anymore and me and my friends get ranked with mad people who destroy us. Not playable anymore
I'm still waiting for them to improve the tactical map, it is impossible to play in teams with the tactical map
Nearly one year and a half for having things like FOG smoothing...
