It's not a fetish. It's about history and art and appreciating your local area. I've been photographing abandoned places, old buildings and such for 20 years or more. I love the old architecture and how the weathering changes it all. I never think of them as haunted as some people do. I see them as enduring, something from our past remaining into our future.

I'm from Chicago and I thought the areas of Chicago that have abandoned places were that bad until I went to Gary,IN and Detroit I was in for a Rule awakening

One of the most terrifying abandoned places I've ever been was this strange industrial space under a bridge in wicker park I believe me and my 2 friends are from Michigan and we had a local kid show us the spot and we were all so fucking terrified when we walked in there the stench of death... you could feel a dark presence our skin crawled and there were all of these strange miscilanious objects placed around and this ominous construction light hanging from the ceiling never ever will we forget that place it was worse than anything you'd see in a horror movie

Walking up fire escapes dangerous some of the both holding the steps in are rotted out and can fall out I know I used to work for a roofing company and would have to climb fire escapes and make sure you have a hold of a railing

I've been "exploring" since before most of the so called explorers been born, like laura Brown said before it be came a "thing" I'm what some call a lone wolf, don't need others with me when I explore, just wish some morons would stop defacing or marking their territories with graffiti

"Graffiti" artist are the original urban explorers. That's why there's always graffiti before urban explorers discover these places.
