    I agree! I’ve shared the joy by giving 4 divisions of my very vigorous paphiopedilum away last summer. One person is new to plants but very enthusiastic, one is experienced with plants, but not orchids, and one is my daughter who gave me the paph originally at a time when she didn’t have space to grow it. It’s fun to check in with each of them to see how they’re doing!

      Hi Linda, that's awesome! and for us as well, seeing the plants grow and bloom for them is so nice. actually our buddy just bloomed a phal mannii we gave him 2 years ago, and none of ours are blooming this summer, save one just started a spike.... I can't let him forget how mad I am at him :)

    I was so afraid to try orchards even though I've been growing indoor plants for over 50 years. I'm rehabbing a friend's Phal and just confidently repotted another friend's Phal. I say dive right in! Great video! 😂

    ........such a great talk and I couldnt agree more!.....what you said about virus and pest is spot on......Orchids are some of the strongest sturdiest plants on earth....and very easy to grow.

      hey Rick, thanks for checking in! im sure one day i will eat my words on the virus thing, but until then i will live in beautiful orchid ignorance! 🙈 hope you are doing well and looking forward to a nice weekend....

    I've been growing for 5 years now and I still see myself as a beginner 😁

      hey ynse! yeah, we will always feel like beginners, and that is part of why we like growing orchids :) there are always new genera to try and figure out! we are on a bit of a cattleya experience for the last year or so...back to the drawing board!

      @@elpilarorchids Steepest learning curve ever 😁Cattleyas are pest magnets and I have problems too growing them I can't get them to flower, they make the start of buds and then poof they're gone really frustrating, but Dendrobiums did well this year and so do my Phals (first time in five years I get them to flower)

    • @elpilarorchids
      @elpilarorchids  3 месяца назад +1

      nice! agreed....we got thrips AND snails for the first time from a newish import cattleya...hard lesson learned there :) we have had more success with blooming cattleya, but our one good dendrobium attempt we killed because we thought it could handle a German winter outdoors....they can't, hahahah! another hard lesson learned. this is why we love orchids!!

      @@elpilarorchids Well German winters aren't what they used to be but still too cold for tropical plants 😁(worst I ever experienced with German winters was -32 camping out on Brocken 🤣never doing that again) I will however get them outside for summer this year but then again Holland is a bit warmer so close to the sea (not)

      @elpilarorchids  3 месяца назад +1

      @@YnseSchaap hahah, yeah, that deep cold isn't always fun :) growing up in Michigan and living in Alaska for a couple years has made me reaaally miss the snow. these winters are just so wet, bleh! so you are in holland?! great, we are always happy to meet other europeans that possibly we could do some plant trades with! do you ever trade orchids with others?

    You have to really learn how to take care of orchids I disagree their not that easy. I struggle a lot with air heat where to put this plant in the house, The media is expensive still learning

      hi Carol, thanks ro checking in! I do agree that there is a learning curve, we are still learning also. (nuance, growing and blooming, to us, are different thing!) And yes, many agree that orchids can be difficult to grow, especially with forced air / ac. Can I ask which type of orchids you have and are struggling with?

      hmm, well without seeing the plants I could only offer some ideas and ask more questions of you! if you want you could email us some pics of it and some info about your growing conditions we would be more than happy to give you some feedback and thoughts.
