    Haha the Florida faction, I know what you mean, it's crazy isn't it😂. But... we can grow some paphs which they would struggle with, and a whole lot of other things too, but it's a bit more than stake it to a tree and let nature take its course😂. Nice phals, love the schilleriana.

      hahah, yeah the florida faction. its a real thing :) its true you don't see many paphs down there in the everglades. glad you liked it, and thanks for watching! we gotta set up a trade soon....

    Beautiful ❤. What media do you grow your phalaenopsis and what direction does your window face?

    • @elpilarorchids
      @elpilarorchids  2 месяца назад

      hello tina, thanks for checking in! so the window is north, north-east facing. we get first morning sun for about 1 hour in the room. as for the media, we use 50/50 mix now of medium bark and leca balls. we used to add some moss into our mix, but over that last year or 2 we have removed it cause they just stay wet too long with the moss....anyways, hope that helps!

    I live in Florida and people ask me why I don’t grow most of my orchids outside. It’s because I live in Florida! Sweating through my clothes every time I want to enjoy my plants is not of interest to me. I love my Florida orchid group but am a little tired of always being told I shouldn’t grow my phals in full sphagnum moss.

      howdy jennifer! thanks for checking in and for your comment. sometimes we wish we had your sun, but the temps can be brutal down there! one thing about growing inside like where you live is the ac. ive never grown orchids with forced air conditioning, and it seems like it would add another layer of complexity to the equation. so good on you for making it work!

      @@elpilarorchids One thing about air conditioning is it allows me to grow some cool growers. Here in SW Louisiana it gets hot and humid. The high light hot growers love it, but the cooler growing plants struggle.

      @@dustyolmanolman9933 and no problems with drying out? do you make sure to find spots where its not blowing directly over them? I give a ton of credit to A/C growers, as it seems like a lot of folks have issues with it! thanks for adding to the discussion old man!

      @@elpilarorchids Yes. The vents are far enough away that they don't blow directly on the plants. The oncidium is in semi-hydroponic-culture, the paph is kept moist and checked twice a week, and the phals are checked and watered twice a week.

    Watch Miss orchid girl and her video with catasetum orchids and watering... She put out some video to debunk some mits about watering,when and why.

      Not everyone thinks MOG has anything really helpful to say. Her information is contradictory at best. I'm sure the OP will agree.

      @@dustyolmanolman9933 thusly it is good that here at El Pilar we only provide the most convoluted, unimportant, and mind-numbingly dull orchid drivel to provide RUclips a counterpoint to her spot on commentary.
