My man Tyler Babin made a mini doc about me while I shot this vid -- I am so incredibly honored. watch it here: ruclips.net/video/pAkWLBmr1nY/видео.html
Cody the doc of your day is awesome! I love what you had to say about your relationship with your dad and the importance of feedback from the people who are sincere in your life. I understand your challenge with editing, however you do it so well. I’ve subscribed to Tyler’s channel and aim looking forward to checking it out and getting notifications of his entries/posts. Love how it renders Bokeh, I think that's my favourite part of Anamorphic over the flares. The image background separation is just so fantastic. Full manual I'm also fully down with, but not really taking advantage of an APS-C camera right now so not in the cards...for now. Enjoyed this dude, nice work!
I wonder if I put a black mist filter on it if it would remove the likelihood of the horizontal flair? I noticed that only super direct light into the lens cause it, so some lens diffusion might be interesting. 🤔
I love the flares, that organic look, that sweeping wide format, so cinematic. But my financial situation doesn't like cinematic as much as me so....my GH5 weeps.
It was an adventure to get there with that song - it was too intense to open with, but then made the decision to go for it on the test shots - glad I did. Thank you man!!
That broll was amazing love the splitting of the fire wood. Love with this lense can do and what this is leading to for other companies and price point for this style its nuts!! I will be keeping my eye on this for sure!!
“This is a manual focus lens. So if you vlogged with a manual lens every day for 365 days without ever missing a shot, this won’t be a problem for you.” ~Cody Wanner
I love that anamorphic is starting to become affordable... Of course high end lenses will look the best (like cook lenses) however, I love when a company holds nothing back! Lens looks dope!
Cody great video brother. I really think you got some awesome shoot with that lens. Also happy 2020 and keep killing it buddy you are doing an amazing job!

I had pretty much given up in this lens from what I’ve seen so far but this vid is intriguing me more - that opening sequence did look ace, I have to say. Not a massive fan of the blueness of the flares but they do seem an interesting proposition. This on the Black Magic 4K - I need to do a bit more digging... good vid, Cody!
Cody Wanner - yes please! Would be great to see you do something with it - for some reason everyone else’s videos have just turned me off this fully - but this look on a BMPCC4K would be a defo sell for me! Would be awesome to have that video man!
Awesome work Cody! Really need to try this out now. It’ll be a nice change from the bulky adapters or the $50K+ options we currently had for anamorphic! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
I really liked the non biased review and how you didn’t just try to sell it. Some beautiful footage though and manual focus seems like a match... Well done Cody and that sound design next level when you are cutting the wood, building the fire...
I love the idea of cheaper anamorphic options for "consumer" grade cameras. Really hope they can create a trio to fill out the range since I'm not a huge fan of 50mm. Like if they have a wide 20mm, the current 50 and a 135 or something like that would be amazing!
Solid review Cody. You’ve spoiled my interest in it and it may now be a possible investment in my future. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this.
Wow, forget the lens flare or even the squashed bokeh, the compressed look to the shot for your talking head bit looks awesome. As soon as the video opened I was instantly impressed with it. The seperation and general aesthetic is just awesome!! Great video my man, loved it!!
Does really nice bokeh!!!! Saw Babin's vid first, laughed with you on the supposedly "serious shot" in front of the red light. I am not there yet to use that lense... maybe in the future.
Awesome vid! The lens seems interesting in an artistic way but not sure I like all the wasted display area. That being said, does youtube handle the video better/differently in terms of codec?
for $600 it really isnt bad at all... a little weird on the one wheel but i bet shooting larger lights (like car headlights) it would be gorgeous. Also, who are these 4 dislikes... why?
I have been looking at this lens for a while. I avoided it because I don't trust indiegogo and because it's an APS-C lens so I just feel like I'm losing some of the usefulness of the lens if I have to put my full frame camera into super 35 / crop mode in order to use it. Your video was great though it showed me that this is an incredible lens and probably worth the investment in the future. Random - I would love to see Moment make an Anamorphic lens like this for Full Frame cameras.
Hope to see more cinematic footage from you buddy, you have great taste when you're shooting, so you offer a unique angle on gear. Would particularly enjoy more cinema-centric gear content, in it's real world context. There are too many videos of talking heads with the gear as a prop, instead of out in the world, being put to use. Loved it. Want one. Wish I could afford one right now, trying to save for uni applications 😭
If JJ Abrams vlogged. ;) Looks so good! Very interested in this kind of lens. Shooting with the mirrors is such an awesome idea, as well as that "gh5 only" timer! Great creativity, even in the small stuff here.
That's some JJ Abrams level of flare there 😂 If there's native way to control the flares / have filter for it I actually might get one. Needs more focal lengths though!
I was sold on the footage much less the strong coherency of the explanation. I know that you use the GH5 and I was really curious when you were posting some of the shots on your Instagram stories a little while back. I kept thinking "dude, why does that look so cinematic on a GH5? What sorcery is this!?" Now I know and I am ecstatic to pick one of these up for my GH5 when it comes out because it creates the image I've been wanting for so long. It also looks like it does really well in low light. If you dont mind, what is the highest ISO setting you go on for the darkest shots without getting the noise? I freak out above 800. Great piece as per usual
Wow finally someone with the gh5 to review this lens! Seeing your footage just gets me hyped up because I ordered mine already! What were your settings for those night shots?? I’m curious how you deal with the low light with this lens? Any tips ?
Ibis was on for this whole video. You need to tell the camera it’s a 50mm lens so that the ibis can adjust to that focal range - the other person may not have used a full manual lens before?
I. Want. This. Lens!! Any idea if they're coming out with a canon mount?, failing that, would it still work with an adapter? While you answer, I'm gonna go try and find a spare $700.
Right - you have to trust any company that you back on a preorder campaign like this -Sirui has a good track record - but you could wait until the wide release if you’re concerned
The elements of this lens are made by the german Schott company which belongs to the german Carl-Zeiss company. So no wonder why this lens is so sharp.
Cody Wanner oh yeah I definitely know it’s not a macro heheh, but i was expecting to get closer distance atleast like my ef 50 1.2 which I’m so used to , I guess I was too spoilt with my 50 1.2 flexibility 😄
Looks amazing to be honest. I love the anamorphic stuff, used an arri on a couple of jobs. Man if only I had 70 grand to drop on a lens. 😂 😂 😂 Great video as always bro 👍👍👍
Hand held // in order to use a speed booster you need to be using a lens made for a larger sensor on a camera with a smaller sensor. This lens is made to cover m43 so I don’t think there is any sort of speed boosting option.
@@RCodyWanner I asked if you used a gimbal because I heard that with anamorphic lenses. You have to use a gimbal of some sort or your footage will appear wobbly and distorted handheld due to the nature of the lens design. Would the stabilzed sensor counteract that issue? I'm looking to get a gh5 and would like to shoot with this lens handheld. Your footage appears okay and doesn't have that wobble effect. People that shoot with anamorphic adapters on other cameras have that wobble effect handheld unless a gimbal is used. Also to get the 2:35:1 aspect ratio. I think it is, would you have to shoot in 16:9 mode on the GH5?
By the way, what were your export settings to get your video to get this aspect ratio? I have Ana anamorphic adapter for my drone and my export settings are wrong please help
I DMed you on Instagram - You need to squeeze the vertical axis by 75% while you leave the horizontal axis alone. I do it in final cut about 3/4 way though the video. Go to scale, and then only adjust the Y axis (75%). That will give you the black bars on 3840x2160 (normal 4k).
There's something about the grade or frame rate on this video that invokes the 80's sci-fi sensibilities of the Tesla Cyber Truck. Is it the lens, or did you do something different?
What is the 35mm equivalent? If you’re using it in on an aps-c sensor would it still have the 75mm equivalent on a full frame like a traditional lens or is the conversion different because it’s anamorphic?
I’m not 100% sure, but I believe the full frame equivalent on APS-C would be 60mm (that’s 50mm x 1.6 crop factor ÷ 1.33) And then, again also not sure, on my gh5 I believe the full frame equivalent is 75mm (50mm x 2 crop factor ÷ 1.33)
They need to do a 40mm equivalent FF like other anamorphic brand do. For music video have a 75mm FF equivalent isn’t possible for all the scene, we need a wider view on some scene... Hope they make an other lens this year, then I will definitly buy the 2 lens :) (hope you understand my english)

Still upload in 4k - the codec is the same as all the other footage, it’s just squished vertically
It's not really squished - it's native 3840x2026, which is interesting...
