I have an MT 07 22 and I can agree that, the main issue is the front suspension. But if you’re thinking getting one, go for it! It’s such a fun and easy to ride bike
@@gwhahaha Watch the video. He says to cut the suspension spacer by 10-15mm depending on rider weight, and adding thicker suspension oil, again depending on rider weight.
The sad thing about the front suspension on the MT07 is that Yamaha could have shipped it with 15w fork oil and it would feel planted and confidence inspiring! It's a super easy fix for them!
Swap to Öhlins parts that are available - it will transform the bike on the twisties. And yes, do not forget to have S22 performance rubber fitted😉🏁🏁✌️
The front suspension can be almost fixed by replacing the fork oil with 15 wt oil or even 20wt oil. The spring rates are ok for someone with a full riding gear weight of approx 95 - 100kg or more. Dial the rear shock rebound damping all the way out and then in approx one full turn.. the play with the spring tension to suit your weight.
I had the same issue, riding Deals Gap and Cherehola on a regular basis because its in my backyard. I ended up tightening the back shock, did nothing to the front and found that in the tight twisties and tightening apexes of the Smokey's, sitting at a far rear position in tight turns (as is the norm) the front end ended up getting very stable and feels really good, I assume due to not loading it up in that riding position. 6 feet tall and 220 pounds and have 3.5K miles on the 2021, no complaints at this point, but have seen other riders speak to the front end death wiggle when hitting changing surfaces, and I think there may be a few factory defects out there as I have never experienced this on some of the curviest roads East TN has, and they are a plenty. I am selling the ZX-9R in the garage to a friend in favor of the MT-07, for comfort, and all around fun, and the fact that I am not getting in any track time, the MT-07 is my choice of everything out there I have ridden in the 2020-2022 realm. The most fun you can have with your helmet on IMHO.
I got the bike changed the fork fluid, brake pads EBC front and back and handle bars, Air filter, Mivv full GP Carbon exhaust and flash and started to brake in. As good as my 2018 MT09 in the mountains.
@@TypicalMT you either need a head stand, or what I did was had some straps above the bike and lifted the front end up off the ground off of the handlebars after everything was loosened up. You will have to pull the fork tubes right off the bike. Whole process only took me a couple hours. (First time I have done anything like this)
First thing I noticed was how soft the suspension is. I swapped out my front fork oil from 10w to 15w and the difference was substantial! Literally rides like a completely different bike, I highly recommend doing so as a quick fix before anything else. I did it in about 4hr in my garage
OC loved how you made it to the top and found another mt07 lol. This is the bike I'm planning on getting and every video Ive watched, the suspension is a huge talking point. Rear shock is awful, you only need to push the rear down and let it go to see how fast it goes up, I've had the back end step out going around a bend a lot, shock is the first thing to change

| have the 2018 model and this will be my 3rd year riding it. I don't get out on it much and I've only put 6k on it to date. I haven't noticed any instability yet but I also don't push it very hard in the turns. With practice I've learned how to reduce the throttle without fully cutting it to get the desired amount of engine braking, when coming off the throttle don't go to full stop, leaving a "tiny" fraction of a degree of throttle from idle will allow you to control the amount of EB effect.
That hit you are talking about is definitely sketchy. Had that happen on the track and almost lost it. Same thing with my fz09. Hammered the throttle with a little bit too much lean and got a bit squirrelly 😳
I have the same bike. I'm 150 lbs. and I don't have any problem with the front end. If you want to get more speed you need to up shift unlike most bikes where you down shift. You need to use the torque. If you want to get rid of the instant acceleration, you need to be in 4th instead of 3rd.
@@MT07R Not too much. When I had my Street Triple I use to wheelie it on purpose and accidentally some times. Just watch some beginner RUclips videos on wheeling. Always cover the rear brake to protect yourself. I kind of grew out of it. It is a thrill though.
$420 to Traxxion Dynamics and the front end will be fixed. Only really 'need' a clamp for the top of the fork tube so the cap and spring doesn't jettison itself into the nether.

I know everyone in the shop has been using this bike for the last month, did you fix the suspension for your weight prior to this test 2. The old MT07 needed the front suspension shaved and a heavier fork oil to make it rock and roll. Not sure on the 2021 but just the fluid will make a big difference, just got one and that's what I'm doing right now fork oil change. The brakes just spend the $100 and drop the EBC pads in day and night that's what I did to my 2018 MT09 and going to do it to these front brakes, that are from the old MT09 that's how they saved money. Rear shock just going to need to up grade after you destroy this oem one which I been hearing is good for a year depending on your weight and driving. Ride safe stay safe.
fortunately/or unfortunately if money is an issue, they do now have öhlins upgrades for the forks and shock now, it’s just a shame they couldn’t just stiffen them a tad from the factory, other than that lovely bike, also…….Chase….love the content, keep it up bro 🙂
Rear preload needs to be near max, adjust rebound accordingly. The front is too soft and needs stiffer springs with preload adjusters. That said, I think you would find some minor adjustments to your riding style would help with this bike. First I would be riding the midrange in 4th gear, not the redline in 3rd. Throttle is too twitchy for that. Would help with the “unstability” in those dips. Also, a flash tune makes a big difference with that on/off throttle mapping. The fuel cut for emissions is the problem. I don’t understand how Triumph can get it so right and the Japanese bikes get it so wrong.
i have 2018 mt 07 and the suspension is ok til u get to a corner with bumps (they could be just small ones) and than suspension goes up an down like crazy. this bike is for city and going in straight line

Well, I have a 2018 MT07 and I never ever thought it was unstable or had suspension issues. It's not the best for real road trips but I have the FJR for that ;-)
But have you ridden other bikes so that you have a point of comparison. I have been on 2013 Ninja 650 and a MT-03. Both bikes feel great very stable. I have the 2016 FZ-07 and the bike handles like its riding through mud. The bike just wanders. As Chase said, it does not feel stable at all in turns. I have to run 10 mph under the speed limit through turns to feel like I'm not going to wreck. The Ninja and MT-03 I can run 10 over the speed limit and no worries what so ever.

really want an MT07 but was exactly worried about the suspension and brake issues. even though i enjoy the ergonmics of the MT07 should i still opt for the R7? and then maybe putting dirt bike bars on it haha
Tell you what I noticed and I hate is that Yamaha said for the 21 model they lost 1 hp and torque compared to the previous models and I call absolute bs I had 2 17 models before my 21 and both older models had the same mods as my new one does and it’s considerably lower on power really annoys me since I really loved the 07s. I’ve only had it for a few months now and I can say everything else about the bike is awesome but I regret getting it I wish I would have shot for the 09 The selling point for me is the sound of the 07s reason why I never switched to a 09 or 10
OC: Doesn’t the R7 have an upgraded front suspension? That could have a lot to do with the lack of feeling planted on the MT-07. Along with the stress member.
Another major issue is working on them, there are so many fatal flaws they refuse to fix. Swingarm being out of alignment, adjusters unreliable, rear axle lock nut failing from the factory when removing the rear wheel for the first time, torque values in owners manual incorrect. Look up rear axle nut MT07 and more than 250 reported failures are littered everywhere. There is literally and aftermarket established for the common failures that yamaha will not address and recall. Gilles Tooling makes a rear axle nut specifically for these bikes and the problem produced by the OEM nut. And what the hell were they thinking with the front end, suspension and brake lines lol. Soft line to hard line over and over bottlenecking braking power. -Disgruntled owner xD
when going into corners on mt 07 i tend to have a tiny bit of throttle so i dont get that first hit so bad i know its not the way to do it but you sort of have to on this bike when pushing a bit
Its 80% pilot, 20%bike Maybe people should practice their riding skills and stop complaining about the suspension and the ecu map and bla bla bla. Suspension is adjustable enough for normal humans.
Oh I see ! You call them bends or curbs in the States ?! At the very most they're wide sweepers nothing like hairpins and twistes we have in Europe on real mountains. Do you know anything about counter steering or even body position when you're about to approach a proper bend ?! As for the suspensions, I've reconditioned them with Ohlins fsk 108 springs plus thicker oil hence it doesn't dive in when you either brake or lean over for that matter, it's not a tractor like your HD so please don't treat it as such.. Lol
None. Cut the spring spacers 10 mm. Drain and re fill with 415 cc of bell ray 20wt fork oil. Then raise the fork tubes 8mm in the triple clamps. Thank you Dave Moss tuning.

Aye am I famous now at 11:01 my MT-03 was in the shot.
really want an MT07 but was exactly worried about the suspension and brake issues. even though i enjoy the ergonmics of the MT07 should i still opt for the R7? and then maybe putting dirt bike bars on it haha
the wobbler in corners is fine is have been riding for a while you just ride with it no proplems
Showing off the new LED turn signal 🤣
OC - like the autumn leaf colours. Brakes, would they be better if they had braided hoses?
Nice video chase.Make more videos about mt 03 too.
OC: would we be able to install that 'stress member' for the R7 and put it ok the MT07?
Unstability. 😆
Chase. I love you. Never change.
true even sport version is shait, 800eur investment needed
Longest outro 😅 but can say I stayed to the end lol
I ride a crf250l, which has super soft suspension. Would this feel any different aside from the power and weight? I'm a big boy at 260 lbs and 5'11.
喜歡這些探討使用情境系列的評測😃
Maybe
Tell you what I noticed and I hate is that Yamaha said for the 21 model they lost 1 hp and torque compared to the previous models and I call absolute bs I had 2 17 models before my 21 and both older models had the same mods as my new one does and it’s considerably lower on power really annoys me since I really loved the 07s. I’ve only had it for a few months now and I can say everything else about the bike is awesome but I regret getting it I wish I would have shot for the 09 The selling point for me is the sound of the 07s reason why I never switched to a 09 or 10
oc the chrome looks great but painted body color would be great
Sir chase do you use a mic connecting to your camera ? If so which one
The headlight is the only problem lol suspension feels good on my 2019
A suspension tuner could solve that issue pretty easily.
Left blinker was on the entire time haha
how tall are you or how tall person can ride mt 07 properly and computably
For the same price, cb650r 2021 with 1000 km or mt07 2022 new? Thanks from Spain
Cb650r by a longshot
suspension is great from my country with not perfect road
OC: Doesn’t the R7 have an upgraded front suspension? That could have a lot to do with the lack of feeling planted on the MT-07. Along with the stress member.
It sure does and yea you are totally right on that.
OC: i will laugh in floridian because it's either green or dead there...
That blinker in the beginning...
Your poor blinker fluid levels. Lmao
when going into corners on mt 07 i tend to have a tiny bit of throttle so i dont get that first hit so bad i know its not the way to do it but you sort of have to on this bike when pushing a bit
That signal light or turn indicator
Don’t forget the rust issues that Yamaha’s seem to have.
No such thing as being able to upgrade mt07 suspension. Completley impossible.
Its 80% pilot, 20%bike
Maybe people should practice their riding skills and stop complaining about the suspension and the ecu map and bla bla bla.
Lol
how do you change from mph to kmh on the mt 07 2021? and how do you turn the light on the dash down a bit and up when needed?
You can check your owner's manual for the instructions
Make sure your dash is showing the mileage, then hold one of the dash buttons!
Trees are beautiful when their leaves are colored. 🍁OC
What would be the best aftermarket suspension solution for the mt-07?
None. Cut the spring spacers 10 mm. Drain and re fill with 415 cc of bell ray 20wt fork oil. Then raise the fork tubes 8mm in the triple clamps. Thank you Dave Moss tuning.
@@davidleonard8369 And if I couldn’t accomplish that in a million years?
@@tubingforever well I'm out of ideas. Takes more work than that to install aftermarket cartridges or emulators.
Ohlins do a cartridge kit for the front and a shock for the rear, but by the time you've added those it's the same price as an MT-09
Turn your blinker off! lmao
OC : Love the turning signals on ;)
Chase I love you man but it's instability lol 😆
OC my favorite trees are purple
Yes
did no one tell him his blinker is on still
Bro your turn signal is on
