NASA delays astronauts' return to Earth aboard Starliner capsule

- Astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore aren't lost in space, but they may be stuck there for a while.
On June 5, the two veteran test pilots launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, becoming the first humans to ride the Boeing Starliner spacecraft into orbit.
Williams and Wilmore docked at the International Space Station for a planned one-week stay. But that stay could be a lot longer, after the long-delayed Boeing Starliner developed a series of five helium leaks and thruster problems.
"They don't exactly have the ability to just go out there and get a screwdriver and open it up. So they're testing and so forth. The net result is, they say we need more time," said Keith Cowing, a former NASA scientist and editor of NASAWatch.com.
In a Friday night blog post, NASA revealed the latest announced return attempt, June 26, was no longer an option. Cowing says the safety of the crew is the top priority.
NASA has not officially announced the date for the next return attempt.

If it’s Boeing, I’m not going.
😥 "My name is Ozymandius, King of kings! Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
@@WilliamRWarrenJr what's the reference?
Neither coming back
Basically, almost every major commercial flights are Boeing..
Sounds good to me!
I wouldn't get on a Boeing skateboard.
😂😂
R.I.P. professor of logic at the University of Science!
How about boeing submersible?
skateboard is no problem
Anybody remember when Boeing used to be good before they started being cheap and only caring about shareholders.
Before they merged with Ronald McDonald Douglas.
When you start hiring based on DEI instead of real skills. These are the results you end up with. Just take a look at Kamala. Exact same thing.
Most cheap products are cheap because they are low quality and poorly designed 🫢🔥🚀
4.5 billion to send two astronaut's into space, sound's about right for a government project.
Boing is not a government entity The government has nothing to do with the project
@@larryhullinger4141 The government gave Boeing 4.5 billion to develop starliner, I'd say that's a government project.
@@robertmiranda2444 i mean its how most military or scientific venture works. Why do you think NASA itself has budget caps? Why do you think we haven’t been to the moon in decades. Apollo program itself cost the taxpayers probably 200-500 billion usd in today’s money over 15 years
On a Russia rocket engine’s RD-180.
On a Atlas rocket with a broken capsule built by Boeing. Meanwhile Space X, Can deliver and on a rocket and rocket engines Built by Space X and delivered Astronauts to the Space Station and bring back other astronauts back home safely and also landing the booster stage back to the launch pad for a lot less money and Boeing is still reviewing more money? Ladies and gentlemen. This is not hard to figure out.
MUY BIEN QUE FUERON !!!
I work for Boeing on the Starliner and I can tell you they cut alot of corners on..............hold on.......someone's at the door
😅😂🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
F
Are you still with us 😢
👀
boeing is at it again saying these problems and the open door policy is expected. BOEING.. what are ya doing? you better not be silencing the whistleblowers.
2 whistle blowers literally died, I double that's encouraging to others
"Open door" that's hilarious because 2 Boeing airliners had their doors fall off in midnight! Yesterday another Boeing fell 30,000 feet completely out of control.
I read somewhere that they are murdering the whistle blowers.
"We have been trying to contact you about your Vehicles Extended Warranty". 😂
🤣 Guess Boeing should have taken that call.
Now you gotta call, SPACEX!
I TOLD YOU!
Why call the local con artist who gets a lot of taxpayer welfare money?
@Rob-metoo527
are you talking about tRump?
Do they pick up
🤣🤣🤣
Am I the only one who will never step foot on a Boeing product again for the rest of my life?!?
"We replaced all our engineers with managers to save money but now we're hemorrhaging it! HOW did this happen!?"
@@MisterLEM0NSit's so much worse than that 😂 they fired all their seasoned employees during the coof lockdowns. Then got a bunch of diversity hires for half the pay and some sweet sweet esg kickbacks.
No, there are a few other anti-Boeing trolls.
@@facitenonvictimarum
You should put that on your Tombstone.
You can thank DEI
Things ive learned from the titanic & hindedburg, never be the first ones to try out something
😂 well said
And that sub
Somebody has to be first in order to advance. Space X was actually first of private contractors. Boeing only completed one of two uncrewed flights successfully before failing at this crewed flight. This pretentiously named Starliner capsule is likely to become another piece of space junk. While I'm a fan of competition, it appears Boeing's Starliner project team wasn't ready for prime time.
SpaceX to the rescue!
I was remembering the old Mighty Mouse tune: "Here I come to save the day". Ok Elon, I guess this is on you bud.
SpaceX launch has just failed
Sorry guys, your week in space is now a month. I know you're devastated. 🎉
Im sure they have a tube of flex seal up there somewhere. It can fix the leaky spacesuits as well.
Billy Mays coulda fixed it.
And I'm hearing about this for the first time on August 13, 2024.
Of course they're going to say these problems are expected, if they are expected then why wouldn't they be fixed so they're not expected, doesn't make sense
Sorry about that loose bolt
And the ones that weren't installed in the 1st place
Did the door fall off? 🚪✈️🫢
Well it's August. Obviously Starliner's cool name has maxed out.
Boeing, “Where DEI Hiring practices mean more than hiring for experience!”
So, Boeing Management considers any lost hardware or people as “Acceptable Losses”! But, they strive to create a safe flying Experience!
Although I hate DEI and any type of affirmative action, its not what's causing problems. Its all the cost cutting and profit maximization. They are making lower quality products for the sake of profit so they can do more stock buybacks for shareholders, which inevitably include the CEO and all the executive staff.
One word, "Boeing."
Bad word☹️
Heavenly Father please protect them
😂
and a bunch of hopeful dawn good engineers
That only exists on earth lol
They’re afraid it will burn up on re-entry.
Actually no.
The capsule could come back to earth any day. But they just wanted to Test it while its docked to the station to gather as much data as possible
They are testing the thrusters and other things such as software.
The capsules heat shield doesnt have any problems so it should survive reentry.
(But I dont really trust boeing with their aircrafts)
The heatshield will only function correctly if the spacecraft re-enters at the correct attitude. For that to happen, the thrusters have to work correctly.
@@KeithHays-ek4vrThe helium, which has ALL leaked out by now, is REQUIRED for the orientation thrusters to function. They will indeed burn up in that vehicle, if they try to use it.
Humbling themselves and begging SpaceX to save their lives is the only option now. Of course NASA is in capable of asking for help. I've worked there. They are useless. Even more useless than the secret service and FBI. 😢
Yeap! Return date July 4? We're a week away from 1 August. Looks like we have a SpaceGate (Oceangate) brewing.
At Boeing when one door closes another door opens!
Fortunate outcome for the two astronaut. Lots of extra time aboard the ISS and likely to be remembered for having riden aboard two different spacecraft when they return via SpaceX. When it comes to getting expensive, they hit the jackpot!
And their ceo receiving 32.8m usd.. Not worth it..
He should not receive his salary or pension…period!
July 4th? Nope. It's July 24, and they're still up there. Nice job, Boeing.
No one should be surprised here. It’s a Boeing product. Short that company
Short a defense contractor that the US government definitely sees as too big to fail? Yeah totally a great idea 🤡
Oh, will 100% fail... shorts won't do anything 😂
However here is the thing
Why interrupt your enemy when it's making its own mistakes 😂
@@pogolaugh Yep, going short is fun
It's July 30th and they still don't have a return date.
Careful. Don't stare at Medusa for too long 😂
I know it’s so fake
I wish happy come back
Meanwhile SpaceX is changing the game on every level at a fraction of the costs 😅
@Mr.McLellanthey should've included a game of Monopoly on the Boeing to help pass the time.
Fraction of the price? I think not. They receive government money, tax money. The return on investment goes to shareholders and never back to the government or the tax payer.
Pretty bad when Space X is hired to push the ISS out of orbit….NASA is a shadow of its former self.
@@martinb5626SpaceX charges 50 mill per seat while Boeing charges 100 mill per seat. 50% less is more than a fraction. Yes they have received funding to develop new technologies but tax payers are still paying 50% less with SpaceX with a more reliable spacecraft. Knowledge is power my friend..
@Mr.McLellan no they aren't. SpaceX doesn't use patents to block competition. If they do patent a technology its only to stop someone else from patenting it first and blocking SpaceX from using it. They actively encourage others to use their technology. Same with Tesla. SpaceX has the only reusable launch system right now because no one else thought it viable. But after 4 years of Falcon 9 and 4 starship launches in 1 year, other companies see that it is possible and are jumping on board. It might take 10 years, but we'll see other reusable launch systems come about eventually. Until then SpaceX will do what Soyuz and the Shuttle program did in 40 years in about 5.
Its July 31st and they're still there!
Possible return date of July 4th? Well, how did that work out for them? It is now July 21, and as far as I know, they are still on the ISS and not back here on Earth.
I think they meant July next year 😅😅
We pray for them to be brought home to their families soon❤❤❤
They’re still there. However, according to nasa the spacecraft is more than capable to take them home but they want to do diagnostics while in space. Why? The parts they want to study is burning up on atmospheric reentry and can’t therefore be studied after landing.
Why won't that super-swagger lady wear a hairnet or pull her hair into a ponytail? The micro-grav environment (and the various devices) don't need free-floating 18" strands of hair collecting everywhere
We did all this with 1960s technology. One would think we'd be way ahead of those days.
SpaceX is but we can’t rely on 1 company
At least the door stayed closed
So far
Chin williams looks happy though 😊
Forget nasa, get Elon.
I am watching this in August 1st
Ok...dont tell us about how much food and water there is.....tell us the real reason they are delayed....delays dont repair problems
Sounds like another OceanGate in the making. We're a week from 1 August
- And the plug window blew out.......
In space nobody can hear you scream. Boeing? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
It's July 18, 2024. They are still up on the ISS.
Thanks for your prompt, up to the minute report. Today is July 23. In your report of the astronauts delayed return from space, you said they are trying to go for a July 4 home Earth landing date. Are they STILL in space, 3 ADDITIONAL weeks past the projected return to Earth? WOW
Those astronauts may want to get some heavy screwing in while they're up there in case there is no return trip😅
Yesterday another Boeing airplane fell 30,000 feet! At least its door didnt fall off like several other Boeing planes. I wouldn't ride in any Boeing product until after they implement quality cintrol and safety measures..
Aren’t they currently joined with other astronauts on the ISS?
Hopefully they can return safe and sound
Do not go home on a Boeing! What can they fix in weeks which they couldn't in years?
So sad, GOD BLESS BOTH AND PLEASE WE WANT YOU BACK HOME ❤
July 19th - Still stuck.
They mean next year they said oen year so
This is what happens, when you let bean counter CEO's, who are not equipped to make good engineering decisions, run ENGINEERING companies.
Around July 4th? Well that aged well.
"To be expected"? It didn't work that with their predecessors.
Sorry I’d wait for Dragon to come and get us.
I sat that if they have to come home on a Crew Dragon, Space X should put an AAA emblem on the side of its capsule.
July 4th of 2025? Do they have that much spare food and water? No garage bay to fix space capsules? No agro pod to grow tons of delicious fresh food?
Which one is Gilligan and which one is The Skipper? 🤣
Good lord. They're having a lot of bad luck lately.
He is saying sunny williams. It is Sunita Williams!!!
Boeing CEO Calhoun received $32.8 million in total compensation in 2023.This guy is a million time better then an average working American so he will have no problem figuring out all there problems.
He seems to be pretty good at silencing whistleblowers (definitely harmless accidents and not murdered).
😂😂😂 "stuck in their for a while" Got me
Without question a GoFundMe to expedite if that's the issue
Arriving ✨
extended stay.... sounds like they're stuck and probably in danger.
NASA has become the Video Crew for the SpaceX program, nothing more!
Just imagine being stuck there not by choice
It's not Sunny it's Sunita
July 4th???? R I I II G H T! July 4th has come and GONE!!!...BUT THOSE 2 ASTRONAUTS ARE STILL STUCK UP THERE!!!!
elonnnnn can i copy your homework again *boeing gives half hearted smile*
4.5 billion and they’re saying there’s no money in Social Security give me a fu$&ing break
Second week of August. Still not home.
You could have shown us that Boeing picture without a door it was going to be good
what's the problem Boeing does well with emergency landings
Perfect day for a return. 😉😉😉
If it’s a Boeing it’s not going!
Wow who could have foreseen this
Boeing. Such a surprise!
This isn't a surprise considering NASA & Boing have been hiring technicians, scientists, and engineers based on DEI, skin color, and gender for years now. If NASA doesn't go back to 1960s hiring practices it will only be a fraction of its historic past.
I wouldn't ride a Boeing bus tbh
Are they lying to us? Are these people really stuck up there?
Sunny has got a hair appointment booked so I hope they get her back soon ,,it’s just going frizzy now
if it's on a Boeing, i'm taking a train..
“Look for a possible return date around July 4th” 2025..
"on July 4th" - was it on purpose not to mention the year?
Im surprised they made it to the ISS with the door intact.
Oh Boeing....Nightmare PR for you guys
WELL... I'm Sure they're selling Tshirts and coffee mugs😂🎉
They are stranded.
They need to call Uber or Musk, it’s their call.
some says the failed parts was sourced from India
Well now it’s august in a day . Lol
How is this company still operational
So when are they sending dragon to bring them home
July 4th came and went. When will they be able to return? This looks SUPER BAD for Boeing.
Food has got to be running short up there. No?
They are still up there and it's past July 4th
In space no one can hear you scream.
WHY DO WE STILL USE BOEING
