      Same. I’ve never been comfortable with my math, but I took Precal and did fairly good in freshman year of college. I used to feel like I had good logical skills since I played chess in highschool. When I took calculus 1 I wasn’t really doing the work, I wasn’t studying at all, and then I stopped attending class altogether. At the end of the semester the professor whom saw potential in me gave me another opportunity to complete the course and take the final test which was 70% of the class grade since it was a departmental final. I had over 4 months to prepare for the test and complete the remaining assignments for the course but I didn’t do anything because I thought I suck at math and wouldn’t be able to pass the test.
      I almost dropped out of college at that point, but I decided to continue and changed my major from computer science to healthcare administration. I graduated last year in may and to this day that is my biggest regret, that I didn’t work hard enough and goofed around, and I didn’t chase after my dreams. Always believe that you can and you will, that’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned from all of this.

      @@WarmNapkin I switched majors two months ago from mathematics and am really excited. Everybody wants to switch to it though so the competition to get in is getting tighter. My school requires a 3.5 GPA between 6 prereq classes before you can do CS. Thankfully I was raising my GPA for the last 4 years from a 3.0 to a 3.53 so I switched just in time to finally feel like I have my place here. I'm incredibly smart, but with my ADHD and a lack of helpful hints, I starred college with a rocky start.

    Things I should have known when entering college
    - Major in software engineering or some other computing field instead of Chemistry
    - Computing fields are so accessible and can be practiced anywhere (since I owned a laptop), unlike Chemical equipment
    - Coding on a regular basis is more enjoyable than I had expected
    - Optimize code while you can - you will run it over and over and over, so don't leave resource hungry loops or processes in there
    I've seen your second point a lot more on the job than in my personal apps. It can take over a couple hours to debug an issue, while actually modifying the code to fix the root cause takes maybe three minutes. Then, since my code is running against an app that is still in development, changes to that along the way break some of my tests and it's anyone's guess what gets deprecated and how to discover the refactoring needed.

    Okay so, I'm a senior highschool student and well obviously i was figuring out which career to study at college. CS really called my attention but i I'm still unsure, if you know any careers related to it and you could just tell me a bit about so then i can have more options to really choose what i want i would be so grateful

    • @diegoosorio6646
      @diegoosorio6646 3 года назад +1

      Btw, my two options rn, by rank are 1.Computer science technology - programming
      2.Computer science technology - Network and Security management.

    • @adebs
      @adebs  3 года назад +1

      With the first option, you could become a Software engineer, Product or Program Manager, Business analyst, Data Scientist (with a higher degree), Dats analyst…the list goes on! As for the second option, I don’t know too much about security, but the options would be relatively similar, just with more of a security/networking focus. With the second one, you may have the potential to be more IT focused (business + technology)

    Can I go to college for a bachelors degree with the Computer Science degree and still make quite a bit of money with the degree or do I have to go to college for more than 4 yeara for that.

    • @adebs
      @adebs  3 года назад

      Nope, you really just need a bachelors degree for most careers! Some roles like a data scientist or user researcher might require a higher degree, but for SWE, you would just need a bachelors!
