  • Today I'm just running through the options that most mini trucks have when it comes to lowering your truck. Not every option will fit every truck so make sure to find out what's applicable to your particular truck! I'll be covering popular terms you might hear when it comes to lowering your truck like the ball joint flip, loosening your torsion bars, reindexing and many other terms beginners might not know about.

    Just seen video about lowering truck. I use to own a 1987 mazada b2000 in year 1990. So happened , i never got over my truck getting wrecked. I just purchased a 1989 Mazda b2600i 4x4 cab. Can i do the lowering blocks to just lower it just above the 20 inch tires. Dont want it low,low. Just a little. What do you recommend. Remember its 4x4

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Год назад

      Man 4x4 i believe are tougher to lower and I haven’t had one personally so not sure if just a block and torsions would work the same on it. I believe the suspension is setup somewhat differently. I’d take a look at how the rear is position. If it’s the same as the 2wd then perhaps you could get away with adding a block and just loosening your torsions. Maybe someone with one could also chime in

      I have a whole video on the belltech leaf springs and the problems you'll have with them. If you are only going for a 3inch drop or maybe even a 4 inch drop, I'd just stick to blocks and not mess with the leafs as it's more headache than it's worth it unless you modify other things with them. Hi
    I have a 1988 Mazda B2200 extra cab and I would like to replace the stock rims with 18” or 20” alloy rims. My concern is rubbing the tires against the wheel well or fender. What size rims in width and tires(low profiles) would you recommend to avoid my concern. And Im thinking to have 2” gap from top of tire to the fender. Needless to say. Thank you for the lowering information and very helpful
    Thank you

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Год назад +1

      the tire size will depend on how wide the wheels are. If you are going big wheels, I'd recommend to stay around 8 or 7 inches wide and probably around a 225/35 or /40 with a 0 offset or very close to it. Check willtheyfit.com where you can put tire sizes to check how it'll change compare to your factory setup

    have you guys ran or seen anyone run lowering blocks and lowering springs at the same time on a d21? in my case i have a 91 hardbody and there’s a bell tech 3” leaf spring for sale. and i’m wondering if that combined w my 3” block would be too much
    (i’m going for like 1”-2“ off the ground type low
    i was thinking of either going monoleaf or redrilling but i don’t want it to handle like crap since it’s my daily

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Год назад +1

      Yeah you can run them together. I think the only think you’ll have to watch out for will be the hangers and the axle. They are gonna be close to ground/frame. If the 3 inch block is too much, just go down to a 2”. That’s what I’m running on my Mazda for reference

    • @4by_yotaguy373
      @4by_yotaguy373 Год назад +2

      This is true. As the mono leaf spring destroys the payload, and gives you lots of wheel hop. Now I've removed a leaf or two in my stock rear spring packs with combination of blocks for a little softer ride, and it was great for me. But I also never hauled anything.

      I'd definitely recommend to upgrade your shackles if you are installing a belltech lowering leaf spring. If you have factory leafs, i'd look at your bushings first before upgrading the shackle. So far it is a very noticeable change in ride with the new shackles on the lowering leaf

    Reindexing torsion bars does NOT lower the front suspension. It only allows more or less adjustment on the bolt that adjusts height. This has been documented in many forums and is inaccurate information.

    Flipping the front ball joints over so they are pointed in the opposite direction will not work without a lot of work on most vehicles because the ball joint and the hole in the spindle are tampered. When flipped like this, the tapers are now opposite, and the ball joint will not fully seat in the spindle, and the nut will not thread onto the ball joint. My son watched this video and wanted to do this on his B series. I told him it would not work. He didn't believe me because of your video. So when we were doing the control arm cutting so the ball joint could be mounted on top, I showed him why this would not work by inserting the ball joint into the spindle.
    Also, flipping the top ball joint does not lower the vehicle.

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Год назад

      This is general advice. I showed how it was on my truck at minute 1:20 and also said how it was placed on a b series at minute 4:30. On certain applications (meaning other trucks) some people can place it on top. Again on minute 4:24 I said that you need to look at your specific application and see what’s best/works when it comes to ball joint flips. You will get slightly lower but is a very negligible amount of low, usually half inch or less.

    • @msmith1wa
      @msmith1wa Год назад

      @@msmith1wa Not every option is right for every truck. Hanger redrill is pretty much never done in the mazda b series but is a common thing on the nissan hardbody because of how they are setup.
