  • So after my electronic lock on my Tractor Supply Winchester 10 Gun TS-9-EFL Safe died, I contacted Winchester support to have them send me out a new lock for me to install.
This details the removal process of your current lock and gives some tips on how to troubleshoot your current lock if you cant remove it.

I just purchased a 12 rifle Winchester safe. I along with the floor personnel inspected the entire safe together. We tested the digital pad, and made sure both backup keys were # correctly, then tried each key to make sure the safe operated properly. And with great success; so I purchased that specific safe. Very happy with my purchase!.

I was thinking your issue was with the batteries you were possibly using, but holy cow a faulty solder job was the culprit. Definitely something to look out for. Thanks for posting.

I like that you keep letting it go and bang on the safe to test the solder connection I counted five times it banged off the door

TRY THIS FIRST, The top 2 rows on my key pad quit beeping but the bottom 2 rows beeped, I was locked out until I tried a solution from a genius, push the tab on the bottom of the keypad and twist to the left to remove, remove the battery and press 0 for ten seconds replace the battery and the key pad worked again.

Guys, do it right... Replace the electronic lock with a spin dial. Every time I wanted in my 12-year-old Winchester safe, I wondered if it would open. Got TIRED of that, so I ordered a Sargent and Greenleaf spin dial. Easy to replace, and now I KNOW it’s going to open. Threw my electronic lock in the trash.

This is why I love the old fashioned mechanical combination locks. Because at some point the electronic lock will fail.

    • @ernestmerrill7325

Amen Rick. IF a mechanical lock has problems (rare) the dialing procedure can be modified to compensate for most problems. When digital locks fail it's very rare; other than replacing the keypad, to be able to do much of a repair. There are tools now that good safe technicians can get that might help open the better quality Sargent or LaGard locks. Good Luck.

The new model of this Winchester safe comes with a key backup. If the keypad malfunctions, now you can use the key to get the safe open. Can't rely on electronics on a gun safe.

I purchased a Winchester safe in 2014 and immediately had a problem with the electronic lock. They basically told me to go f*** myself. I gave the safe to my nephew and he was able to do something with it. I bought a Liberty Safe and about a year later I had a problem with the S&G dial lock that was binding. Liberty apologized and had a locksmith at my house the very next morning. He replaced the lock and never charged me a penny. Liberty called me back to ask if I was satisfied with the service. They told me that if I ever had a problem again that I shouldn't hesitate to call. There's the difference between Liberty and Winchester. Spend the extra money and get a liberty.

They make "ribbon crimp connectors" that would be useful in this situation. You'd just cut the ribbon cable in half, put a male connector on one end and a female connector on the other, then you could easily connect the new keypad. Just make sure the break is close to the keypad and make sure the connector doesn't go through the hole in the door. Also have to make sure the pitch is right (looks kind of like it would take a 2mm pitch connector, but I could be wrong). But yeah, checking the circuit board for stuff that's obviously broken and can be easily fixed is a good first step.

I have the same problem. That is a low forward voltage diode. Someone tried to break into mine. Like you I hope the cable is not damaged. I will try to reflow the part. If that don't work,,replace the diode. The way it's made and you pointed out so well ,,,.If the ribbon cable that is solderied directly into the board is damaged,,,, can't get it on my bench for a much easier repair. Thank you for the video.Only video I found that may very well fix my problem.

These safes are now on clearance at TSC because they're crap. I almost got one of these but opted for the larger model that does have a key override. BUT it's a barrel lock. I'm seriously considering opening mine to see if I can replace the manual lock with a laser-cut key, since you can probably open the barrel lock with a bic pen (I have not tried it yet. If I do, I'll update this comment).

this from happening again. Suggest all safe owners with a keypad to do the same. I dont know how much the new key pad will cost at this time.
