    As a locksmith for 34 years I would advise you to always change the combination with the door open. If you make a mistake and can't get it open it's gonna get costly.

    FYI... May I suggest you strengthen the shelves with 1-2 inch wooden strips or aluminum angle. I had both shelves in my Winchester safe collapse under the weight of my ammo. Look at the shelves in this video after the ammo is loaded; both of them are already sagging. It took me hours to clean the mess up off the bottom of the safe. I reinforced them with a 2X4 which I ripped in half on a table saw. I used two halves cut to length and then fastened the shelf to the studs. Never had an issue since, and it's been 10 years.

      Dang what a mess. I moved all my bullets to the bottom just after the video. I was a little concerned about the center of gravity. Great tip Jeffro.

    Is there a pre-drilled hole in the back to run electric cable for a lockdown golden rod dehumidifier?

    • @DadsGarageDIY
      @DadsGarageDIY  Год назад +1

      There is not. The only holes that I have identified are the ones in the bottom where it bolts to the "skids". Great question. I have a video on a wireless dehumidifier. Look it up so you can stay away from it. LOL. It seemed good at 1st. But, it has to be "recharged" every few days. It's almost useless. I'm looking for something different. If you have any recommendations please let me know.

      @@DadsGarageDIY UPDATE: There are two brackets on the top and bottom on the left side (facing inward into the safe) that you can adjust. I didn’t know this. You unscrew them and slide them slightly forward. My door wiggled but not nearly as much now. Think I’m good
      There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with the one I got. I called Winchester and sent them a video and they said some play/wiggle when the door is locked in fine as the fire seal expands. Definitely not a safe, a sheet metal box with a lock.
    If you are interested purchase an older used safe.
    FYI the fire rating is questionable. I, believe there's only a few safes that actually have a certified fire rating.
    FYI, I'm not being critical of your purchase. It's the company's that falsely advertise these sheet metal boxes. That key override is another weakness.... I'm not going to get into that on a public forum for obvious reasons.
    My cousin is a certified locksmith....... He actually spoke about the weakness with those locks
    If you are interested replace that lock with a Big Red safe lock. Bolt down this container and conceal it if possible.
    Those bolts and locking bars are visible if you remove the interior board. Once you honestly examine the constitution you'll be able to understand my comments.
    I'm definitely not criticizing you by any fashion. Thank you for sharing your video.. God bless 🙏

      Mine came with one also. There is a small plate on opening of sage where the top and bottom lock bolts hit the safe and there are two sets of Allen screws that line up with those locking bolts and the plate can unscrew. I think it’s meant to be bent to where the door has 0 play back and forth when shut and locked.

      These types of sheet metal safes keep the honest man honest but any of these types that are just glorified sheet metal with some 1+" locking bars can be gotten into in a few minutes by anyone with the where with-all. These types of safes are what they are and work great for the price. If you need more security step up to the models with steel doors and construction.
