  • In this episode I am making my way to the island Roatan, off the coast of mainland Honduras. By the time I arrive on the island, it's dark and I still have to find a place to stay. I do not like riding a motorcycle in the dark!

There is a place on the shoreline of Lake Superior (Michigan, USA) that affects me the same way that video of the shoreline affected me. Something about the rhythmic movement of the waves and the seemingly never-ending vista gives me a sense of the immortality of the world. And a sense of peace and acceptance.

I have always admired the effort in framing, photographic and production talent of your drone clips. but after seeing the effort you made to retrieve your drones from Costa Rica, I’m amazed. Quite agree with you. A year ago I bought my second Ural (with sidecar) and ordered LED lights as extras. They are excellent, well worth the extra cost. I think that manufacturers don't bother with good lighting because most riders only ride in daylight. My other toy is a CanAm Spyder (I don't ride two wheels any more) and that also has good lights for night-riding.

Drone shots are the best whats more amazing is that sometimes you pilot a drone while also riding the bike. A master of multitasking you are.

there is garifuna near la ceiba for some good food. and also more garifuna on roatan that cook great food. roatan is nice i really love the snorkeling and diving. i took the ferry once lol i was in the us navy i didnt get sea sick but everyone else did. now i am planning my next vacation there i will visit that fortress. thanks for that tour. so i know you are going to copan! so beautiful but the road is treacherous and missing in some areas be careful i am sure you noticed the paved roads can be missing big pieces. copan has the beautiful macaws flying around they are so majestic you can see them up close. and well copan is so very beautiful and has the mayan ruins. safe travels from arizona, usa

i must say that having just learned to ride myself i admire your dedication to wearing all your safety gear in the tropical heat. i live in hawaii and i bought a full set of fancy hot weather pants and a klim jacket that was worth almost as much as my bike. i wore them once. now i just use shoes and a helmet, tank top and shorts. nearly got heat stroke just after the first mile.

As a kid, we would always want to climb on the cannons, and never thought about how silly they are just on the ground, or on concrete, but of course, their wooden carriage had rotted away centuries ago.

That was a plush crossing by recent standards! Sick bags - of course a seasoned traveller like you with all recent sea crossings doesn't need one. Never heard of Roatan until today so looking forward to an Itchy Boots travelogue. 👍

Cannons from this era were not placed directly on the ground like this. They were placed on wooden carriages, either fixed or with wheels to facilitate moving and aiming them.

I'm always almost overwhelmed by your drone footage. Only from above can you truly gain the best perspective on the incredible natural beauty of the lands you're passing through. It occurs to me that when you're viewing your drone footage you're as surprised by it as well. Having ridden through many European countries and also spending time on the road in India and Australia on a bike, your videos stir in me the feelings and sensations that only traveling on two wheels brings.

A fellow in my hometown moved to Roatan and bought a house. He bragged on how wonderful it was there and how bad our town, city, state, country was. There was some civil unrest in Honduras and he has been happily living back in our town ever since.

Congratulations to Alaska [and Noraly] for going over 10,000 km in Season 06!!!!
Well at least odometer-wise, we all know that doesn't count airplane flights halfway around the world, all manner of watercraft rides, from large to small ferries, to tiny boats on the rough open seas and long rivers, and even riding in a small basket on a cable over an Amazon river! And all of it so far, SIMPLY AMAZING!

    'Honderas' means dogbreed in Dutch.
Many years ago the geography teacher in my old secondairy school had a blind map of Middle and South America hung up in front of the class room. A not so very bright girl had to point the countries with a stick and say their names. Now she actually didn't do so badly and had most of the countries right; 'Guatamala, El Salvador' etc. Until she came at Honduras. There she stalked. The teacher, wanting to help her than said 'Honduras? Honduras?' And the girl answered; 'Eeuh, Duutse Herder? (German Shepherd)' 😵‍💫

Good story. I saw that you had a big IT problem with the trains in the Netherlands yesterday. When I heard about it I thought it might have been a hacking carried out by your Russian "friends", but apparently it wasn't intentional.
