- Mcdoubles back again with a brand new video and today we bring back the FIRE TANK on Project Ascension Season 8 utilizing the brand new version of TEMPLAR OF FLAMES - and its a banger!
I really enjoyed playing this tank variant. It has incredible aoe potential and an activate playstyle that genuinely hyper-focuses on the fiery aspects of the spec that I really appreciated. It doesn't feel too much like a Paladin despite dipping into some of the Paladin spells and a lot of the Paladin talent tree, which is definitely a plus. It's unique, it's an ode to Kreg the Tank from the past, and it's a whole lot of fun!

here's a couple things that you should check out if you're into building fire tank:
1. you don't need fearing fire! fire tank is by far the most threat i've seen on tank, and i can even pull from other tanks just by using judgement and seal of fervor.
2. Blaze ward is redundant, echoing power is a far better option and it's on demand with 100% uptime. Booming echoes makes it even better.
3. Blazing barrier is amazing. it will mitigate several thousand damage, and give you a strong aoe at the end. You need to roll combustion and invest some points that are weird for tank, but it's a great defensive cd and it's always up.
4. Dragon's breath or Blast Wave, pick one but both is way too much for an optimal rotation.
5. You can trade fire talents for survivability talents, which you seem to have done! But fire tank is all about the fire damage and threat. Save the big survivability for another build and just go ham with Templar. Aoe pulls, i'm top dps by far with about 6k dps. Stay alive tho!

4:09 I built a flame tank a couple weeks ago using this enchant as well. My was MFB-based with Blaze Ward, the Blast Wave -no-knockback- enchant and Defensive Magic. This way, whenever I cast Flamestrike, I do additional AoE damage if someone hits me while casting, which is every time as a tank. I think I had Retribution Aura, the mage Fire Armor thing and thorns. Judgement was built up to attack at a distance and deal AoE damage on top of giving some mana regen. It was not only a beefy tank, but also did somewhere between 1.5k and 2kdps depending on the pull. Also really simple to play. Hit your judgements every time they're up, throw down flamestrike, consecration and blast wave whenever they came up. I think I also had a talent that increased the range of blast wave to 16yds... Easy to play, decent dps and really good tanking overall.

Oh man the first 14 minutes was rough, I used to main this spec and i kept thinking "just use judgement!" the cycle of judgement and flamestrike is all you need haha. Also id like to add that templar of flame is a really good spec for 2h parry tanking. that sword you got was perfect.

Actually, as a healer, it's perfectly fine for the tank to pull with low health. While I encourage to always have an eye for his/her position before pulling, sometimes we let our hots tick or wait for more dmg taken so we don't overheal. Granted, there are some builds that don't care for overheals, like overflow, but generally it's a portion of the mana cost wasted.

I've been trying to make this build for a while now, with no blast wave, dragons breath or combustion cards.. normal or lucky 😂 I'm going to live my experience through you, thank you! Such a fun tank build with insane aoe delight!
This was the first tank build that i actually wanted to make on s8, and tbh I was able to make it work SUPER well without blastwave or db. Eventually I was able to HoF DB and combustion, but you really don't need them to build Templar. Stick with it, so fun!

oh hey i use to do that trick in rfc. blast wave push back is amazing for kiting and even mob gathering.
you can use a /cast [target=cursor] Flamestrike macro to not waste that extra half second on clicking the area u want flamestrike to be!

If you're going Flamestrike and DB, you want Playing with Fire. Direct damage fire spells (Flamestrike) reduces the cooldown of Dragon's Breath by 1 second, per target hit, crits double. So you could quite easily just go DB > Flamestrike > DB > Flamestrike > Repeat. Didn't get enough to reset it? Blast Wave. - Pelo, Thrall

Dunno if I agree about Turtle WoW honestly, it never seemed to be a thing that's meant to go through refreshes like Ascension does. They spent years with a lower population, and I think they are happy just providing a slowly expanding Vanilla+ world.
That's also the thing with the vanilla world, at least back when it was current most of us never worried or cared about doing the most current thing. And I think a lot of people on that server are the same way, they're happy just chilling and slowly working up towards maybe doing harder raids.
Refreshing it once and sitting on it for 2 years just seems smart from every angle to me tbh
Fire tank archetype got a Great LRE. Love how it plays. And while it is not the strongest, being able to make combustion a defensive CD via an ERE is so thematic

I just remember last season you'd join a raid/BG and basically 99% of people had different builds. You'd whisper them and talk about theory crafting.... then this season all the content is tuned around meta specs. So creates what we all hated about retail imo - good shit - Eyedia
Hey dude! You should do a fire tank with the new RE that allows immolate to be insta cast on melee, then pair that with fireblast to spread the immolate and watch the numbers fly!

Also... I make a Dark Surgeon tank. It actually does pretty well. You can find it on the Hero Builder thing. I think you'd enjoy it. See if you can make one better than mine. :D

This spec is fire. -Doukii
The last version of the RE was able to get down to a 6 sec rotation with Blast Wave>Flame Strike>Judgement>Flamestrike>Repeat. The new build's rotation is now a 9 sec rotation to make it feel smooth being Blast Wave>Flame Strike>Dragon's Breath>Flame Strike>Judgement>Flamestrike>Repeat.
EDIT: Heavy use of cd reduction talents and green res were used btw to get down to those rotation times.
Can do the first Rota with just 3 cooldown reductions and a controlled blast enchant.
- Judgement turns from 7s to 5.5s.
- Blast wave turns from 20s to 10s (Controlled Blast -10s CD) to 6s due to 2 Flame Strikes (‐2s each).
The big question is: is trying to CD reduce DB worth it?

I tried this with 2h parry tank to emulate a ret pally tank and it was fun! feels a little crazy just spamming instant flamestrikes lol. healers did not love that i was parry though :(

I remember doing that on Area 52. You're squishier, but you can put out even more damage with Divine Storm and Flametongue damage.

As a player for TWoW, I have noticed the strange dissapearance of Torta. No idea whats going on there. But with regards to TWoW itself it has really hit a bad kind of stale state and this is for a couple reasons. One like you said there are a lot of high end players that just kinda sit around doing little to nothing, or there are max capped players and the grind is ungodly long for pieces they need and we could do with some sort of reduced grind or a catch up system (not like Ascension has, but instead of going out, killing some trolls for a 10% necklace drop, returning and getting only 50 rep for a faction, maybe make it 250 or something like how Wrath had better rep mechanics and was still a grind, just less of one). The other big reason is their staff size limits them a lot, and it really hinders them that like actual retail vanilla they use the modified Warcraft3 Engine. If they upgrade to the BC or Wrath Engines it would be easier on them for implementing things like they have wanted, and they seem to have a mindset of "We wont fix bugs and balancing issues until its a devastatingly glaring issue, instead we'll focus on making a new tiny town over here in some uninhabited piece of land.", so they perhaps need a better priority system.

I tried this build but didnt get nearly as good rolls as u did. Something i did do tho which i liked was getting combustion and the re that gives u a flaming shield, felt like it went with the theme, anyways good vid. IGN: Quinntalen
Also, the last boss in DM west is just a heal check. As long as you have more than 7k life and waited for your heal to jump down with you, a wipe there is not really on you imo

do a healer/dps/tank hybrid (a bruiser) with maelstrom weapon and lesser healing ward on an attack speed build. i've tried for like a week but got tired of ascensions stupid rng. i'm not gonna grind 3 years for a few cards.

You already have charge why not roll away the heroic leap so you maybe get the void walker still? I also always try to accept as many thematic rolls as possible (like the incenerate) cause why not its cool -IamMe

To be perfectly honest, at the current moment, Retail is 1000% superior to Ascension. I hope you consider playing more of it, maybe exploring more of the outdoor content. Profession revamp, etc etc.
Views were lower on it and I'm not in a good place financially. But maybe you're right
@Mcdoubles definitely look into streaming while you play retail too if possible, then posting it with the edits.

@@Mcdoubles That sucks man. I'll admit, like Josh you're the reason I decided to try Turtle and Ascension. They were a lot of fun and helped fill in a gap I had. I didn't touch retail for about 18 months, that's the longest I'd ever gone without playing and in that time I kinda bounced around between different MMOs. DF was me giving them a last chance, and I dunno, seems to have hooked me.
I have never played retail wow. Still, i feel like ascension is uncomparable to the retail. It would be like comparing 2 different fruits...

I k ow this is likely a bad suggestion, try branching into MTGO and do the commander scene, alot of content is on live stream in paper games few is on the mtgo side and perhaps rope in some of the viewers or discord peeps.
