“The stage was set for greatness, the stage was set for degeneracy. I was living with my mother, I had no girlfriend, no job, I was hardly going to school.. and my life could never have been better.”
I lost my Mother 2 years ago. Watching this and hearing about all of the wonderful times Asmon had playing WoW with his mom make me both overjoyed and makes my heart hurt. So amazing.
I did only played WotLK and it was EPIC! Just like Asmon is telling. It was for the community and progression that you will never ever find again in a game.
@@jeffmcintosh209 Completely agree man, can't exactly put it into words how great the content and community was. Missed that so much so I started playing Classic BC/Wotlk, while I did meet and made new friends, it just didn't match up to my experience in the past. Felt fucking badass when I'm the only one who managed to raid and beat all end game (Hardmode included), flexing my Ashes of A'lar
I just love whenever he mention about his Mom. Such a wholesome relationship, that she respected and shared her son's passion for Gaming! Rest in Peace Asmon's Mom!
Man all the stories about your mom and how integral she was to your experience really got me. I couldn't turn away. Started playing wow the day wrath came out, 6 months after my mom died. Almost 16 years and half my life later I still spend as much time as possible in azeroth.
@@juggbot4572 it will seem to get easier at times, then other times it will feel like it just happened. Allow yourself the grace to feel what you feel, time doesn't heal everything.
It's insane, I'm now a "grown" man with kids and a great career. But fuck, the release of WOTLK was one of the best times of my life. I remember stepping onto that boat in Stormwind like it was yesterday, power leveling like hell. Didn't eat, only power napped and totally went for 80! Still somehow one of my best experiences ever in my entire life. You had to be there...
Yeah BC and WotLK were peak WoW. I played Classic too but not that seriously. Only started getting really into it when BC came out and somehow got into the best PvP guild on the server that was for 18+ when I was 14 lol. Ended up playing a lot of Arena and open world PvP. I made pretty close friends in that game while I was bullied in school but online people looked up to me because I had 2200 ratings. We had a lot of fun and all loved the PvP videos people like Neilyo and Reckful released and it kinda pioneered what we all know today on RUclips and Twitch. It was a amazing time in my life despite my struggles. I played both expansions excessively start to finish but I felt like the game was slowly losing something and Cataclysm somehow disappointed me that I quit it 2-3 times until I finally did for good.
@@BoppersGames I'm 28 so yup it's that age group. I think age is a big part of why people loved WoW but Blizzard fell off too and player numbers tell the same story. I think WoW had the chance to continue being as popular... but it didn't. During that time WoW really was a big part of the internet and it was before social media really started...
Ye, Asmon actually created events that motivate people to play the game. Blizzard obviously don't have to honor him, but the fact that they blame him for their own mistakes and spit on him is disgusting. I like Blizzard games, but the leadership in Blizzard is mind boggling.
Man, watching this video makes me really happy. Seeing how happy Asmon gets when talking about him and his friends all playing together and watching old videos really resonates and hits home with me. It reminds of the good ol days in OG WoW/Wrath when my brother and I would play for hours on end on our dinky little E Machines Computer from Walmart with the graphics all the way down and still lag and get d/c'd. My brother passed away last December (2021) from a Drug Overdose and it just makes me remember the times when everything was so innocent and pure. How things change, how life changes... Man, if I could go back I would cherish the moments more than I did. Thank you for this video, Asmon. I didn't expect to be this happy watching this.
I’m more impressed he’s still got them after all these years, I’ve lost so much stuff over the years it’s insane. Including all my music when I formatted n forgot to take it off the windows drive 🥲
His good "relationship" with his mom was obviously only surface level only . Guaranteed that is why now the dude even with money can't land a stable relationship with a woman. This clown has shamed fat people and smokers when those are two of the biggest contributing factors to her death. May her soul rest in peace. Harsh but true.
Do you understand how weird it is to assume intimate comprehension of a relationship between a guy you do not know, and a women youve never even seen. Do you know how weird it is to feel that way about a stranger, but still click on his videos. Do you also eat foods you dont like? Do you know how weird it is to feel that way, click the video, and then go into the comments. Find a nice comment enjoying a nice moment, and just do the internet equivalent of pooping in the middle of the room. Why are you the way you are? You should stop.
Started playing WoW in 2005. Made tons of friends online. Joined the best guild in my server as a Moonkin of all things. Made an awesome Druid best friend on the other side of the country. My best friend and I eventually met in real life, fell in love and we got married. We are together until this day. Two Druids in love forever and ever... ❤🔥🐆🐆❤🔥
I probably haven't watched more than 10 minutes of Asmongold content but to see the genuine joy from a man that enjoys WoW, this made the 3 hours fly by. This shows how much one person can love a period of time and have such a clarity that they can remember details and people during that time. It's amazing!
I think wrath was the last game release I actually went to a store for, it was amazing. Me and 5 of my friends went to the store that held an event at 1am. There were like 200 nerds in line and we were given pizza slices for free while we waited. There were even news reporters and I was featured on video. My friends and I were out by like 3am and went for burgers before returning home to play for a week straight. Man, what an experience.. good times.
My mom took me to gamestop to buy it but they only had collector editions. I was sad because I figured it was too expensive but my mom bought it anyway. Best mom ever
i really liked how chat was actually behaving for the most part and reacting nicely to sweet moments of zack and his mom, really warms my heart that the community can be nice when it wants to.

Some day I'll blow the dust from my old hard drive. Set up my old PC.. And tell my kids about the legendary times I had playing WoW. 12 years later, I'm still friends with some of my old guild mates. This time is something I never felt again, playing other games. Holy fuck this game actually used to be so good.
It is INSANE how I could go almost a decade without playing this game. But I still remember and got a huge wave of nostalgia when the Grizzly Hills music started playing. Even the fact I remember the name is insane to me.
Hands fucking down.... this is one of the ABSOLUTE BEST MMO Game/IRL Stories I've seen narrated and streamed, ever!! The way you slap down your personal chapters and weave it into the day to day with your boyz [and gurlz] in the game, and move across time, the special moments with your Mom and Dad, the entire guild being burned to ashes, then later rising from it like a Phoenix to live once again.. these are stories that create LEGENDS for our Industry. Gotta be honest here bro, some of this got me teary-eyed and slammed with the feels, and many good laughs as well! Maybe in 5 years you can do a new "IRL Rehash" that involves a new MMO or something of note. As always, keep it real, keep doin' what you do cause' it's the good stuff! 😉👍
@@JackChop They might be being a bit hyperbolic but it certainly would have presented other challenges. Seemed like she needed a decent amount of care and stability, without stream being so lucrative and allowing Asmon to be within arms reach, life would have been considerably harder. Asmon is a good son and they seemed to have a really strong bond. Rest in peace, Asmom.
You ABSOLUTELY should do a series interviewing as many of the old Overdose players as you can. I'd love to watch an hour long interview with Cora, STPali, Reg, etc. etc.
Pretty crazy how WoTLK was such a huge part of people's lives. One of my best friends got me into WoW during that expac and so much of our time revolved around WoW, its a massive nostalgia hit to hear Asmon talk about these times. I see many parallels to my life back in the good ol' days as well.
I feel you also for the clanmates who died.....my bestfriend died in a motorcycle accident going at his job one morning.......he was me bestfriend in real life, we where always lanning together playing Lineage 2......This guy was a real warrior, in heart, in life and in-game also.....R.I.P Paul. One of the greatest mother and son bonds of gaming history. 1:30:20 just makes me tear up to hear this. he and his mom sharing their wow experience together, and as a mother does, she passes on the reins of the raven lord for him. Could he tell this story again without breaking down? Because it sure is hard to hear it
Can totally relate with the happiness he feels just with a different game. Every game has that period where it is PERFECT. Make private servers of that stage and invite friends. It´s possible and feels like a time machine.
we need to take a minute to appreciate Asmon's ability for storytelling. I started this saying "oh shit 3 hours im not gonna watch the whole thing" and here i am 3 hours later.

He's so good at story telling. Gosh, I sat through this entire video in one sitting, and heck, it was worth it. Thank you Asmon, looking forward to your Cata video! ^_^
This brings back so many memories of raiding with my friends, and how great things were. It was the best xpac for me not because of raiding, not from the story, and certainly not the pvp. It was the xpac I made the best memories in. The xpac I had a raid guild of nothing but friends. It wasn't always good times, and drama happened, too, but I absolutely cherish those memories I made in retail Wrath.
I’m so glad he has all these great memories playing his favorite game at the time with his mom. It’s a bit more sad watching it after his mom passed but also heartwarming to hear him tell these stories of him and his mom. RIP Asmon’s mom.
It’s wild how u can recall all these moments, happy for ya what a ride. As a person who hasn’t played wow, this is an epic tale to get the complete breakdown of the times and how it went down. Cheers beast master
Asmon's arc with Cora ended up being so awesomely wholesome considering how toxic it started, lol. From giving her shit in raid about not bringing acorns to clearing heroic Lich King together just before Cata came out. You love to see it.
Just watched the whole video. I never played WotLK but I felt the same love for EverQuest in 2003-2005. I would give up my leg to have that love and passion for a video game again. Going to bed at night, excited to wake up and play again the next (or same) day. Building real friendships in game. I really miss it.
The fondest memory of wotlk was the release of Ulduar. I remember having a crazy dream about it and the next day woke up early and had to wait until it was released. I had a level 80 death knight and rogue and went into Ulduar like right when it came out. One of the best times of my life.
I wish I was passionate this much about a game, the fact he can remember so many tiny details from just screenshots alone. Also huge ❤ to his mom for being a supportive gamer chadess
Watching all of this was so nostalgic. Happy to have experience this game in its prime during WoLK, but I can’t help having a sense of sadness over it all knowing I will never experience something like this again. For a 15 year old kid fresh into high school having no real responsibilities, obligations, or priorities I played WoW until I had to go to school at 6am and I agree with asmon, it was pure bliss and one of the happiest times of my life.
Wrath was THE best time in WoW, and that magic can never be recreated, but this story certainly brings back great memories of when WoW was the greatest MMO on the planet. Great video bud
@@AOETAUNT ff14 is just a game. WoW was an alternate reality, a metaverse and THE game. There hasn't been a single MMO to this day that could compete against WoW's prime between 2004-2010.
Man, if the health of your mom does allow it, i´d really like to see a stream where both of you do some stuff. It´s always so wholesome when you tell mom stories.
I remember back in 2006 download world of Warcraft made a human warrior got to level 15 someone invited me to deadmines I said yes and I rolled need on everything because I didn't want to seem greedy.
So many good memories. It is mindboggling how Blizzard does not understand that Asmongold on others alike have spent more time playing their product than most of their developers developing the game and not see it as the greatest freaking opportunity. Whatever the product or company this level of dedication and passion should never go unappreciated.
When I miss the old days I love coming back to this video to make me feel good . You capture how it used to feel so well . Glad I was there too . Wonderful memories
I come here atleast once a month and pay my dues to a wow legend. Hearing asmongolds story telling really helps me with my random anxiety/ panic attacks. It’s something I’ll never be able to repay him for and I’m thankful.
Fellow severe anxiety/panic attack/ptsd sufferer and I know the pain and suffering you deal with. I’ve been dealing with it for over 7 years. Man, WoW back in the day was too fun. Whenever I got back it is not even close to the same experience, which im not expecting it to be. The people you met and played with just made it so much more enjoyable. Really enjoy seeing asmons experience. Wish i saved a bunch of memories like he did. Also his mom seems like a sweetheart, really good soul.
I can speak to the feeling, I remember preordering Wotlk and then the excitement, raiding was incredibly fulfilling, I loved raiding as a main tank and my healer. The countless hours spent on ventrilo(basically discord in the early 2000s)together as a guild joking, laughing, having fun and enjoying the challenge. It’s a feeling I’ve never been able to replicate since, feeling like a genuine team where each person was skilled and knew their job and worked hard together for a common goal. In those moments you could feel a true bond and true friendship, for many these were the only friends they may have had. It was truly an experience I’ve not seen again in any form, after Cataclysm the game shifted into something different, which is fine however it seems largely this experience comes from the time period and technology available and the unprecedented nature of WoW at the time, nothing else even came close.
this man really knows how to speak, i'm nowhere near nerdy enough to understand all of it but I'm sticking through the full 3 hours just because of how great he is at telling the whole thing.
@baluga senpai read the original post bruh. TBC and WOTLK were mentioned only, nothing about Cata. But hey, you just gotta be That Guy now eh ? L2troll
I am reasonably sure that is your nostalgia goggles talking. But dont worry, thats fine, everyone has their best gaming time that will never come again
I was in 3rd grade when wow came out. A ton of kids were playing it as well as the adults. It’s no question how huge this game was at its time. Sad to see where it’s at today.
Hearing Zak talk about his memories of WoTLK, really makes me miss those days. It brought alot of my own memories back listening to him talk about his. Thank you Zak.

I would kill for just ONE picture of my favorite times in gaming--COD4, WaW, MW2, Halo 3, Gears of War days. Amazing that you have so many pictures Asmon, this was so cool to watch!
i've probably listened to this story and the tbc one almost 100 times by now and they never get old. asmon is such a fantastic story teller. i love listening to these while im doing boring stuff in WoW, idk why but it keeps me motivated.

There's no way to deny this: TBC and WotLK were the best periods of time in gaming history. It will probably never be surpassed. Those were the years.
They need to remove flying mounts, real ID, group finders, and cross server pugs.
TBC, WOTLK and Cata were amazing, up until they released Pandas on the World and everything went to sh*t.
@@Hanibul_Lecktor I agree, pandas were dumb lol
I love the dynamic and connection Asmon has with his mom. It's beautiful. Makes me so jealous that I don't have any parents. I can at least feel that happiness from him.
I cant say how many hours I spent trying to farm the time lost proto drake...
2:21:57 I feel the same way man. I was in highschool during wrath. Some of the best moments of my life happened then. All the friends I made and all the drama. I would give my leg to relive it
Same man, truly.
I farmed for weeks ! Getting that money!!! This game destroyed relationships! Lol lol
His relationship with his parents is very wholesome and respectable!

3 hours of entertainment while i do my 10 overdue assignments feelsgoodman
I cry every time he mentions his mom and how he played with her and you hear how much he loves her. It's why I pray for him too. Cheesy but true.
Every screenshot is like a diary page that he wrote. This is fascinating.
I would kill for just ONE picture of my favorite times in gaming--COD4, WaW, MW2, Halo 3, Gears of War days. Amazing that you have so many pictures Asmon, this was so cool to watch!
1:25:34 for Ulduar

damn that screenshot where he beat reckful and sodah on their mains really hits different now. no spoilers you gotta watch the video for the context.
i've probably listened to this story and the tbc one almost 100 times by now and they never get old. asmon is such a fantastic story teller. i love listening to these while im doing boring stuff in WoW, idk why but it keeps me motivated.
Amazing how he remembers so small details and even conversations 15 years back, and how his memories and exleriences in computer game are cooler than mine in irl
I remember these days like they where yesterday. If only we could turn back time and experience this for the first time just one more time.
