    Thank you so so so much for this. It had all of my dads music on 300 CDs that were programmed. I watched this and fixed our machine and now my family can listen to my Dads music even though he is no longer with us. Thank you!!! :)

    After we moved to our retirement home, we discovered both of our Sony carosels had the "table error" problem. One fixed itself after we unloaded the CDs. Using this very valuable video, I was able diagnose and fix belt problem on the second one. We are especially grateful because we live on an unbridged island and a ferry trip could do even more damage. We can't thank you enough for bringing music back into our lives.

    The carousel doesn't have to be removed if you take the CDs out. I just tilted the carousel up after removing the front triangular piece. I didn't have to remove the front panel either. The triangular piece, which has the top slide for the door, slid right out. It was an easy fix. Thanks again. It wouldn't have been so easy without your video!

    Thanks very much for this detailed video! I first took mine apart and figured out how to put the old belt back on - twice - it came back off immediately both times. I was just going to take the unit to recycle. But I found this video and now I know where to buy new belts and get it back in service. Awesome!

    The internet remains undefeated. Fantastic video, thank you! For others considering the repair, I was able to do it start to finish using this as a guide in a little over an hour without rushing. I also had a full carousel. Two added thoughts. #1: To adjust the position of the carousel, I had to lift it slightly to move it around .. it didn't spin smoothly for me. #2: I found it relatively easy to change the rear belts from the front once the face of the unit was off. One of them was a little tricky, but a letter opener did the trick to feed and hold the belt on the smaller pulley in the back. Thanks, hugeshows!

    I used your tremendous video to work on the Sony 400 DVD/CD. I ordered the belts from ECompass and they did send Sony originals. I was leery on installing the belt for the door. Next time opening it I might try just to remove center screw and lift carousel. You are to be commended on your video. I learned quite a good deal of info and increased my confidence. Five STARS.

    Thank you!!! I have two 300 CD changers, both of which had the same problem...bad belts. Found your post, found the belts on eBay and within the week had both units running like new. I taped the door belts inside the chassis. Both unit doors worked fine and I didn't want to hassle with removing two FULL carousels to access the door belt.

      Hello DM. What is the size of the belts for the table? I am ordering two for my CX355 300 cd player and I want to be sure I get the correct size. I just finished replacing two on a CX300 that were size diameter 42x1.2. They are working so far on that unit.

      Hi, Gerald. My belts are installed and working great. I got them on eBay from this link. www.ebay.com/itm/222252716541?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

    Excellent video. Had ordered my belts and they came in 3 days later. Put them on today using your video. Now I started with the 2 belts in the back. One was off and the other barely hanging on. The only thing I did differently was to unplug 2 additional wires to allow a little more clearance. Replaced those 2 and decided to plug it in and see what happens. Working perfectly. I decided to wait on the carousel belt until it actually falls off, lol. Like yours mine was full(er) and decided to save that for another day. Thank you so much for this wonderful video. 👍

    Excellent repair video, did this 3 belt change myself today, but after refitting the front I found the player kept opening the door after pressing play. Found that the door was hitting the door frame on the left. It worked if the front was off, pushing the door all the way to the right cured it. Thanks again for making this.

    Thank you for this video! It gave me the guidance (and confidence) I needed to fix my 15-year-old unit that suddenly stopped working recently. I paid $9.45 including shipping for the two main belts on eBay and, following the first half of the video, I was able to get my machine working again 100% in under an hour. Two minor notes: (1) My unit required me to remove a couple of additional screws off the back panel as compared to the video. (2) In the video, the ribbon connector on the board is black, whereas mine is white, which caused me some confusion (luckily I didn't try too hard to pull the white plastic piece off the board!). Thanks again!

    Thanks for the video! I had the problem with the turntable drive bets, except my belts had somehow melted. I hadn't used the turntable in many years since I now mostly listen to mp3s of all my music. I had to remove the turntable to properly clean up the melted rubber from the drive pulleys. Rubbing alcohol and Q-tips did an excellent job although the job was meticulous and time consuming. I had a problem with the discs spilling out after reassembly. The problem was that the tabs on the turntable shield in the back of the unit actually penetrate the frame. My work surface did not allow the cd changer to sit flat and the tabs pushed back out of the frame openings. I never would have thought that Sony would have created a situation where the shield cound be pushed loose simply by setting the cd changer on an uneven surface.

    Thanks for posting this, it gave me incentive to try the repair on my 20 year old CX335.
    I chose to remove the CDs from the carousel as I only have about 125. I pulled them out from the top and numbered them with a felt tip pen and stacked them in order. The carousel came out easily with taking off the back curved piece or the front panel. After I replace the belts, which are on the way, I will insert the CDs in their proper slot (I hope) and put it all back together. Once again thanks for your great video.

  • @swinginino
    @swinginino 7 лет назад

    This was very helpful. I got my belts on eBay from a supplier that also sent one page of instructions. I'd recommend just taking out the discs. If you do, you won't have to completely remove the turntable to get to the belt under it and you won't have to remove the front.

  • @Scrimmer08

    Good, clear instructions, thanks! My 400CD changer door would not open without a little assistance, so I did remove the platter with the discs on it and changed the belt: Still have the opening problem. I think it may just be a mechanical misalignment of the door.. Removing the platter is not quite as bad as it seems in your video, took about 30min.

    Thanks for doing this. Swapped all three belts and the player that I found on the side of the road is restored. Granted, one of the analog channels doesn't work - but digital out works great. Thanks for making this video!

    • @hugeshows
      @hugeshows  7 лет назад

      I don't know if you think it's worth the bother, since you seem happy with the digital outs, but often the RCA jacks on these type of consumer electronics suffer damage when connected cables get knocked. It is often the center pin of the jack itself that gets damaged, the plastic around it, or sometimes the solder connection on the under side of the board where the jack is mounted. It's possible that the audio output is roasted, but more than likely re-soldering or replacing the jack will fix that.

    Awesome, this worked great, much better than the instructions that came with the two (2) belts. My old belts looked fine, but when overlaid they were bigger and the slippage was causing the thing to act drunk. So while I wasn't sure if this was the fix prior to beginning, it's statistically a good bet for $10, and YES, it did fix the machine. Thanks, good to go.

  • @trainguy999

    You are my hero!! Wished I would have watched this before dumping all 300 discs out tho. With an empty carousel this was a 20 minute job for all 3 belts. No surprises, just as you showed. Yah, so the video isn't HD, your narrative is 100% accurate and made this job a piece of cake even for a ham hand like me. One note, if you slip a belt when the machine is in the middle of plucking a CD there is a locking "pin" that prevents you from turning the carousel. One must turn the gears by hand in the back of unit to disengage the pin so you can remove the carousel. Under $11 for belts on EBay. Thanks to you this is NOT the day the music died!!

    The CDs made a simple job into a total dissemble... from what I've seen elsewhere the front doesn't normally have to come off. I'm going to try what you suggest and replace the rear drive belts while the platters out.

    Thanks for the inspiration and guidance to replace the belts on my CX350. I was still having trouble with the carousel jogging back & forth, and got a table error. A RESET (Clear & Power) got me functional again, but also erased ALL the tediously entered disk data :-( I don't know if there's a way to reload everything stored in the remote, but in trying, I ended up wiping the remote too. :-(
    Should'a read the instructions.
    The machine still struggles to turn the carousel, and I suspect that following your front-side disassembly, plus cleaning and regreasing the carousel pivot and bearings, and cleaning the carousel sensors, is what is required. Still, Mrs. currently has her Christmas music, and there is Peace on Earth. ;-)
    Thanks.

    I liked the video; informative and in detail, both in teardown and reassembly.
    I have mine is in some pieces right now, waiting for my new belts to arrive. But the first thing I did was to remove all the CDs just to avoid the hassle of trying to handle and work around them.
    I especially like the tip about removing the connector for the belt drive motors in back; it clearly opens up more space for installing the belts.
    One question though: would you have been able to dismount the platter without removing the faceplate if you had not had the discs in the player?

    Very Helpful video..... my question is are you suppose to be able to turn the turntable easily?

    • @hugeshows
      @hugeshows  5 лет назад

      It'll be harder to turn if the belt is good because then you'll be turning the motor as well. Other than that, I'd need a little more context to answer this question.

    Really helpful video, got the belts at the back changed as disks had stopped loading but before this they had started skipping, unfortunately the discs are still skipping so I'm half way there. Any idea why the disks are skipping could it be the motor for the play mechanism?

    • @hugeshows
      @hugeshows  8 лет назад

      Skipping can be hard to diagnose without test equipment like an oscilloscope and a service manual for the unit, but generally it is most often related to the optics. Inspect the laser lens for dirt or atmospheric hazing, don't clean it unless you need to, and please do that carefully if needed. Other things can drift like the alignment and laser tracking adjustments. Often CD players have trimpots for adjusting those back to normal, but without a test CD, o-scope, and the service manual, you'd be making adjustments blind. I would also make sure the discs haven't gotten dirtied or scratched while in the player - that can happen.

    Really great video. I liked how you did stuff til you hit a wall-figured it out-then came back on...surprised you didnt replay the vid to see how the ribbon and other cable ran over the top with the little sponge cube....

    Fantastic video! I have 2 CD MEGAs that have similar problems. One is a 400 & one is a 300. Does Sony use the same rubber cables for these?

    Great video. really helps. The other problem these changers suffer from is the carousel swaying back and forth. Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

    It's much better to 'enter from the rear' when installing the two back belts. The white plastic gears and mechanism is covered in white grease and if you drop the belt onto it you've got big problems. Not only will you get it on the belt, but also onto the pulleys! Caution! Good vid, very helpful, thanks.

    Very good tutorial, but not as easy for me as for him - don't know how he did it one handed. Replacing those three belts brought my changer back to life, but I spilled probably 20 discs. Lost a lot of time trying to get the carrousel to re-seat and the door to mesh properly. Hint: there are two white plastic fingers at the back of the carousel housing that must go on TOP of the carousel, not underneath. Thanks hugeshows for the video.

    Where can we buy belts for this?
    Thank you in advance😊

    Replaced all 3 belts (even though the one under the carousel was fine) but this keeps happening, the carousel always stops one or so slots away from the clamp, then the carousel goes back and forth and then it ends up in table error. Have reset all belts and checked that all teeth on gears are fully set. What is causing this?

    I have a question, I have a Sony cdp-ce500 5 CD changer. I have this unit hooked directly to a Sony xplod g700, can I do the same with this unit or does it require a receiver for amplification?

  • @scottlangston87

    I replaced all belts, but that did not fix the problem, When I power up the unit, the table turns about half a revolution in both directions for about 30 seconds. Then I get the table error code. I have tried the reset (power and clear buttons), and that does not work. I suspect some type of sensor, any thoughts on this?

    This is excellent. Thank-you for taking the time to do this. I blamed everyone and then discovered your video. lots of apologies but relieved I can fix it. Where would I order the bands? In Australia?
