    A week has passed from my wife and I visit to Herons. We both would like to thank Peter and his staff for making us so welcome, Peter was very busy but asked us to wonder around his beautiful garden, whilst he finished of the work he was doing. We sat out on the grass and listened to an Opera society rehearsing, with in the group, we later found out, one of the singers was Peters daughter, we where so lucky .
    Having Peter walk around with you and telling you little stories about the trees was wonderful, my intention was to buy a Pine, to add to my collection ,that I did, a very nice Japanese white pine.
    Just to finish of the story, Peter and I both have friends in Common, and they had been dancing at Peters the week before.
    We will visit again

      So nice to finally meet you and your wife at Herons. Seems like I have known you for years. Having a friend in common who came to dance West Coast with me the previous week was very special too. Looking forward to you visiting again soon.

    I love ficuses! I’m an apartment dweller, so I have thus far stuck to Ficus Bonsai. But I’ve got some beautiful and healthy trees. I can’t remember if I got my bonsai after watching your videos or started watching your videos because I got a bonsai, but I know the two events were close together!

    I've had my ficus for over 25 years. It is a great plant to bonsai. I couldn't be happier with its ease of maintenance and all I do is trim and it does the rest. Always looks good.

    Sadly mine looks more like the one on the left! I’d love to see a video on how you plan to revive that one. Mine also lives on a kitchen window sill and gets plenty of light and water.

      one nice trick to revive a tree (if its not a waterig problem, if it is, just put the whole pot in the water and learn how to water a tree) is sphagnum moss. put the sphagnum around the roots and back to the soil, it will bounce back quickly.

    Great video!
    This gives us loving in cold climate some hope for surviving indoor bonsais!
    Here in Finland almost everybody have central heating and that dries out the soil. I’ve noticed that it’s important to change the soil straigt awaiy if I buy a tree from a nursery. Many trees come with a fairly big amont of clay and that turns to almost concrete in the pot with central heating. Cheers again from Finland! Your channel is soo inspiring!

    Another great video as always. Its nearly time to move my ficuses indoors sadly winter is on its way. Sad to see that ficus looking that way they grow so rampant once established, it always amazes me how fast and and how much growth a cutting can do once it roots(which is very quick too) Thank you for sharing

    My colleagues just gifted me a ficus bonsai (they actually gifted me with a brand new obsession). I have many succulents, cacti, and easier plants but I never “risked it” with an indoor bonsai 🤞 I hope I can keep it happy, thanks for the videos, this is a literal life saver 😁

    I have a ficus for over 5 years and I'm having great success; though it could use a trum. I want to add low-lying moss to it. Is there a place I can buy moss in the US? Should I use seeds? Should I buy moss pre-grown?

    Mine looks really good, except it mainly has leaves at the end of the branches. I try to keep it in shape but kind of scared to prune back too much and branches will die.
    Any tips how to stimulate new buds/growth more back on the branches?

    I've had a ficus about that same size for almost 3 years now and haven't had to prune it once because it just won't grow. It's actually growing like a broom style it doesn't really look like a tree except for the trunk. I've tried keeping it outside and inside and it just doesn't want to grow at all. I don't see any signs that is dying but it's just doing nothing.

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 2 года назад +1

      Have you been feeding it with fertiliser ? If not - then you should. Also more humidity and light needed.

    • @johnmatejcik2379
      @johnmatejcik2379 2 года назад

      @@peterchan3100 I do use a fertilizer, but only once or twice a year. I live in Texas USA, very dry and hot climate, so I believe the humidity could be a big part of it. I water every two to three days, I don't let the soil dry out, but I don't want to overwater and root rot.

    • @oliverhomie
      @oliverhomie 2 года назад

      @@johnmatejcik2379 you should slowly increase the amount of fertilizer (once a week in summer, maybe once every two weeks in winter). Maybe the tree also needs to be repotted after 3 years in the same substrate.

    • @johnmatejcik2379
      @johnmatejcik2379 2 года назад +2

      @@oliverhomie Yes, I just repotted it about 2 weeks ago and it's already doing fantastic. I put it into an organic soil mix, my soil recipe must have been garbage because it hardly had any roots. They weren't rotted, they just weren't growing at all. I already see a huge change in the tree... Color of the leaves have become darker, have new leaf shoots all over the tree. I think I have the same problem with all my other trees so I have started to repot all of them. We'll see what happens. Thanks
