I really liked this lil mini arc... They got to fight someone who actually made their wish for immortality and without Goku. All 3 of them got a chance to show their stuff and this for me is one of Gohan's most underrated times

Honestly imagine if Goku instead of recruiting Frieza, he ends up finding a way to recruit Garlic Junior for the ToP. It be so silly yet epic. Also we could get a weird nod to where Pilaf greets Garlic Junior and it be funny if they happen to be cousins. I can imagine Garlic Junior with a Toei level boost to his power all of a sudden him wrestling with berserker Kale.
Daddy I Said Stop It is canon to the anime. It's referenced in the Cell Saga as Gohan goes SSJ2. And there're also multiple times where filler is referenced in OG DB and DBS.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but the Garlic Jr. saga and Dead Zone are my 2 favorite story arcs in DBZ. Just generally a little bit darker than other seasons. I really like horror and the fact that everyone is pretty much turned into a vampire in the saga is really cool. Also in the later sagas/seasons of DBZ the scale of everything just got to be a bit to much. Started to screw with the continuity of it all. Not that I don't like all of DB or anything It's just that when they started to exceed SSJ and go to SSJ2 and 3 and then every enemy had a million fucking transformations it just got to be a little much I think. Still my favorite anime though.

They should make garlic Jr return in dragon ball super much stronger and new transformation. it would also be interesting if he was revealed as a relative to Emperor Pilaf and they together would try to steal the dragonball to wish back the makyo star but i dont know if Pilaf would agree on that because he wants to wish for money and world domination.

And then you'd have someone like Broly set loose to obliterate both armies for shits and giggles as the cast just sit back and watch the fireworks and gore...
I remembered watching this villain arc as a kid and thought it was Pilaf until I rewatched it as an adult. No wonder I was so confused when I saw Pilaf being goofy in the first Dragonball.
I think Garlic Jr. has a huge amount of potential to be a universal threat. He would be a great reoccurring villain, like Ganon is with Zelda. He would keep coming back since he can never truly die. And he's the only filler villain that could be fit into the story without breaking it. Imagine if one of his followers uses the dragon balls to bring the Makyo Star back, and Garlic Jr. figures out how to absorb the power of the planet into himself, therefore, it wouldn't matter how many times he gets stuck in the Dead Zone, as he'd bust out. They would have to figure out another way to stop him. He can bring forth hordes of demons from various worlds to attack the heroes, he has immortality and maybe could even use the dead zone to trap the deities. Even though he's no match for beings like the angels or the omni kings, perhaps he could devise way to imprison them. Therefore he would be the sole ruler of the entire multiverse. He would be like a combination of Moro and Zamasu, but way more effective. Remember that vision he had when he first became immortal in the movie? Imagine the Z Fighters fighting hordes of demonic creatures and aberrations as they try to find out how to stop Garlic Jr.
If they ever make Garlic Jr. canon like they did with Broly, i assume they'll establish that the Makyans are from the Demon Realm and have some kind of rivalry with Namekians.

For what this is I enjoyed it. You got to see the lookout more fleshed out and gohan get a extra win and it wasnt the goku show. Yeah parts of it are boring. The music was killer and for the other reasons I think this arc as well as the first movie would be pretty cool canon. I mean obviously the way the deadzone movie was written it cant be but had the movie been written to correlate with the canon this is a justifiable arc.

No, the makyo star got closer to earth and it helped him give enough power to break out of the dead zone. That is why he is a lot stronger. The closer his home world is to him, the stronger he becomes.
The garlic Jr arc in the anime is based on a movie that can't take place in the timeline. The best Toriyama could do would be add Garlic to Super with a new plot like Broly, but hes not anywhere near strong enough to be a villain and Kami is no longer a character. So he's stuck in non canon limbo

You dont know how powerful he can become with makyo star. He could become strong enough to overpower both cell and broly by absorbing the power from makyo star in many days.
