Good job Adam! This was a $100 video for those of us that didn't know a bout the factory tool. Good job young man. " Tribal Knowledge is useless unless shared."
Nice Job. An excellent demonstration of how to remove a factory radio from a tenth generation, 1997-2004, F-150. I'm putting a Head Unit in my 1998 Lariat and I needed to know how to start. Thank You
Dude, I have the same radio in my F250 super duty.I found the OEM tools at Auto Zone like you said but on 01/03/2013.The reason I watched your video is Ford or Bill Ford put a relay for the blower motor under the dash.So I was looking for a way to open the dash without taking it all apart. I want to thank Ford for putting that relay where no one would ever think of looking for it.By the way Ford owns the Detroit Lions. We know how well they played.in 2012. thankyou, Ford family.
I just purchased a Clarion CX501. I have been a mechanic for over 30 years and before I destroyed the dash, thought I'd see if there was a vid for it. I did know the 4 holes were for a purpose, and I see now, what that purpose is for.. I am only making a reply for 2 reasons, first, thanks for making my install a lot easier, second, the wire you are calling the "bus" wire, is actually the antennae wire. In older model stereo's, this antenna wire was also the ground support for the unit.
First video on removing radios out of a F150 I watch and it is perfect, I have to take out my stock radio and install a FM Modulator. Thanks for the video!
@AdamXOM I got the modulator installed and it works all good. I have the XLT stereo w/ the cd player so what the modulator does, it adds a auxiliary audio input so you don't have to buy a new stereo, the stock ones have all the power the aftermarket ones do. If you want better sound, change the speakers. Basically what the modulator does is a wired transmitter and its so powerful it blocks out other radio station so you have to have it switched.
noticed your gauges sweep after the battery removal. it only does this if you removed the battery cable for while letting you know the computer has reset, it also does this when the battery is getting bad. You also can push your trip reset button and do stuff. Push and hold it, then turn it to the on position, keep holding until it says test.
I think you meant to say dash kit instead of wire harness. Which is what u refered to when you said you ordered it. Great video and even tho you used wire nuts u secured them with electrical tape. Great job and even to help people out who dont know how to soder, or crimp, or shrink wrap. Ive been doing radios and custom audio installation for about 10 years now +AdamXOM
great video. I'm about to wire subs in my girlfriends lightning. It already has a headunit, but I didn't want to fuck the dash up taking it apart. Thanks!
@CDxTWal I would imagine that it could be done without taking off the plastic part, but I didn't want to accidentally scratch the plastic while installing the new radio. But, if you can do it without taking off the plastic part, go for it! I just wanted to be careful!
As soon as I see an after market radio when looking for a used car, I walk away from it. Todays factory radios arn't bad at all now. Removal part of vid was great, cuz mine is broke. I'll look on e-bay for an OEM replacement.
@fishsticksdelight yes, when I put the new radio completely in i'll make a step by step video! And i'll put a link in the description of the new video on the parts I use!
great video. very helpful but not trying to start shit. but i have been disconnecting the positive side of the battery. because then you're still grounded and wont get shocked. couldn't you get shocked because you the toke the ground away? i have installed countless radios without even disconnecting the battery but when i am at work i have to disconnect the battery so i have always disconnected the just the positive side. does it really matter or is just an opinion of the person who is doing the install? thanks
+564Monster Alway the neg first if you touch pos to any ground then you get sparks, but you can touch ground to ground. Other reason's also like back feeding through the much smaller ground wires and frying a computer.
Yes, because I was definitely a professional audio installer at the age of 16. I now use butt connectors and heat shrink tube, but I used common household items in this video, so please forgive my inability to meet your "standards".
Thanks for a straight forward, Very Informative, video! When you were at Auto Zone, did you see an OEM Radio Kit For Chevy or GMC C/K- 1500 Ext Cab? I'll Stop By Tomorrow. Thansk I'll
What exactly is the bus cable for? I'm buying a 1999 F-150 and putting in a upgraded system because i'm a bit of an audiophile. and i've never seen a bus cable on other head units
hey man, do you think you could help me out? i was wondering if/where you got the faceplate adaptor for your truck. ive been looking EVERYWHERE for one and i cant find any. if you could please reply it would be great. thanks! C:
When you leave the negative cable disconnected for an extended amount of time, reconnect it and turn the key to the "on" position, they will sweep like that... it's like the computer has been reset.

If you don't have the tools to remove the stock radio you can always use a wire hanger. It worked great for me.

Very clear, comprehensive, informative video -- very well done!

Nice truck, I have a 99 f150 4x4 and I'm bout to install a new radio in it. Thanks for showing me how to at least get it started
Your identification of a buss cable is not correct,
That is the antenna cable
Yeah I was like 16 in the video. My bad homie
Thank you so much! ✅🥂😁 I was confused on the 2 pig tail harnesses. You gave excellent advice in your presentation demonstration 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯💯🏆🏆🏆

Is it me or did he refer to the radio antenna as a bus cable? Has the terminology changed?

@DevastatedX Autozone, there is a link in the description on what they are and how much they cost!
"BUS CABLE" is the antenna
Thank you you are very helpful!!!
Great video, easy to follow.
helpful, will take mine out this week, have a better one with a cd player.
@fishsticksdelight I will look into that! If i can get it, I'll be sure to make a video to show you!

@mrdaltonsheets1 they are $7 at autozone, there is a link in the description!
Yes they hold a double din and as for your 4x4 unplug it and blow air in the connectors and plug it back it

What are the 2 wire connections you used to wire your new radio into the stock wires

@AdamXOM awesome! thanks in advance mate.
sick viedo man love you
what radio harness did you need, i thought that was all you need?

what are horse shoe tools called? I didn't understand what you said. sounded like OM tools or something, idk
Do you really need to disconnect the battery??

thanks man!
How did you wire the two connectors together
@cyclingman90 You only have to instal the one that fits into your radio, the other one doesn't do anything
Is there a way to do it without the OEM tools
hey man, do you think you could help me out? i was wondering if/where you got the faceplate adaptor for your truck. ive been looking EVERYWHERE for one and i cant find any. if you could please reply it would be great. thanks! C:
Looking for a cheap and working radio... How much was the Sony?
Bus cable! Seriously where did you learn that the antenna cable is a "bus cable".
what color wires on the radio goes to the color of wires on the truck
why cant you just plug the cord that was plugged into the stock radio in to the aftermarket one?
i have a 32 door can u tell me how to remove the pannel beind the drivers door that is not a door and has 6 cd changer
Where did you get the radio harness? How much?
where do you get the piece to remove the stereo
What does the other plug in do?
Will this work on a 2001 model F150? It looks nearly the same.
Do you have a part number on the wiring harness?
where did you get the wire harnest
maybe i am wrong, but your BUS cable looks like an ANTENA cable :)
No there's something else holding the damn thing I just did all this and the face came off my radio and it's stuck in the dash
were do u get those tools
How much is the aaoem Tool to remove???
would any brand of radio fit in the f150?
@Sw33TDimpl3s Thank you!
would the same work for a 2002 model
Since when did the gauges on fords sweep like yours on startup?
***Classified*** after you disconnect your battery and reconnect it they do damn fords....
hunter7925 i'll have to try that sometime, never seen it happen before.
***Classified*** On my buddies escape it does that when he turns on his headlights. They're hid but that's the only other time I've seen one do it
Yeah, I've got an F-150 of the vintage of the one in the video and I've never seen my gauges do what his did at 6:47.

@cb7pwn Unless you have another way of pulling out the radio, I would say so
What kind of tools?
ok I got it, forget my last comment
@Sw33TDimpl3s thanks!
muy bueno. si le entendi al tecnico
Cant you just take the radio out without going through all the other stuff.?
