Finally fixed my 2001 odometer with the help of your video. (over 363,000 miles) Thank you so very much Dude. Painted the gear selector indicator orange too. 🙂 Godspeed everyone.
I watched several videos on this repair and I found yours to be the best for me. I repaired my 2000 F150 by following your instructions. Thank you. It is great having my odometer lighting up again.
Great tutorial, esp. since I have an 01 F150 with a dead odometer. My auto shop quoted me $1,200 to repair. I already have a soldering iron so it should cost me nothing also. Thanks again.
Just want to say thank you for saving me $250.00 and a four hour wait. That's what they were going to charge me and make me wait to take out, solder, and put back. Your video was easy to follow compared to others. The only problem I had was pulling out the wires from the back of the panel. Very important to emphasize to push down on clamp before pulling out wires.. Thanks!!!
This video was absolutely PERFECT. Worked on a 2001 Ford F-150 lariat (5.4l). I took my time which was about 45mins to an hour. The pins you showed on the mother board were spot on, on either side, had tiny hair cracks which caused my odometer to flash, dim or not work at all. Great video!
GOOD job on listing all the tools needed before job starts! Looks like the most tedious part is soldering those points, have to have a Steady Hand!, THANKS for taking the time to take yours apart again to save a stranger some money MUCH APPRECIATED!👍✌
I don't know if the solder joint was broken or not. They are very small pins, and I have terrible vision. Anyway I soldered the one on the end and it works now, so thank you for the video. Kudos to PerryBuilt for talking it apart again after it was already fixed.
Dude! I have a 2002 F150 Harley Davidson that the odometer would show erratically or not at all and the gas gauge would sometimes show and sometimes stay on the pin below E. Very good video! Soldered both end pins and all working now! Brilliant! Thank you!
Great video. After putting up with intermittent display for several years, I found several cracked solder joints exactly where your video shows. I re-soldered all the pins since that is way easier than the effort it takes to get to that part.
Awesome video! My f150 odometer light wouldnt come on, but thanks to u i saved $$ and now works. The first job i had was soldering so that part was easy
Yes, yes, yes, your video was the best walk through to repair my truck. It took probably an hour with cleaning the lenses too but worked beautifully, thank you.!
Thank you! You saved me, I wasn’t able to do the smog test because they couldn’t see the miles, I also would like to mention to be careful not to loose the little rubber piece at the end of the push stick you use to change/reset the miles, I was vacuuming the dust of the motherboard and I didn’t know it comes off and was stuck inside my vacuum nozzle, spent 30 minutes looking for it 🤣 Don’t be like me!
Wow. Absolutely great video. Mine's intermittent but going out more and more so I'm going to fix it this week. Great tip on the selector, makes it so much easier to get the display out. Thanks so much for taking the time to make it.
Thanks a ton! Great video for showing the tough to get to screw locations, I've got mine apart to install a radio to the dash and missed getting the screw behind the light switch.
Thanks for the tip... The pin connector on my 2003 did the EXACT same thing. Reflowed the solder joints, adding a touch more and now the odometer works fine.
Very well done. Saved me a bunch of time and money! A little extra work on a Lightning, as there's a vacuum connection for the boost gauge on the back of the cluster you have to get to, but it's not too difficult if your hands aren't too big. I also had an integrated gauge pod on the left portion of my vent/lightswitch trim, but this can be left connected and the panel swung to the side. That's aftermarket and not Lightning-specific, however. Using pretty small gauge solder is a tip I would add for the repair portion; it doesn't take much at all.
Really appreciate your excellent video and the detailed instructions. I have this same problem on my 02 and this will save me a ton of money. Thanks from Indian Trail, NC.
Thanks. Worked on my 2000 F150. I had to take the plastic/glass off the gauge cluster in order to push down on the gear indicator. Appreciate the video!
Have to say thanks for the video. Took longer to watch the video and take my truck apart than it did to fix everything. But because of your video I got is all working again
Thank you! My 2001 F-150 supercrew’s odometer would work intermittently and I did this today and it worked! However I only soldered the one point on the motherboard. It was my first time soldering so I was kinda nervous 😅glad it worked out.
Great video my man ! I have a 1997 with analog speedometer. It works fine. But, you're showed me have to remove the cluster as I need to replace bulbs that are burned out. Very helpful. 🙏.
Thanks, fixed my 2000 f150 4.2L . Thought it might have been a loose wire, would have never found the faulty solder. Also was able to clean up a dusty instrument cluster.
I did this and WTF! IT WORKS. I think there was a clip on the very top screw that fell off and I couldn't get any purchase on the middle screw that goes in upside down, but everything else is back in snug. THANKU. PS - strange thing. My Check Engine light went away. Let's see how long that stays away for!?!
Thanks for the comprehensive video. You saved me several hundred $s I'm sure. I was afraid it was going to be too much but I thought what have I got to lose. How did you know which pins to solder? I know nothing about electronics and the only soldering experience I've had was copper plumbing pipes. 2003 F150 XLT just turned 100K.
Excellent work and thank you for sharing your knowledge. However I got sea sick from the camera work, please slow down the camera movement and try not to focus on everything, sometimes showing the entire unit makes it easier to visualize. Love your work.
QUESTION ? HOW HARD WOULD IT BE TO CHANGE THE LITTLE LIGHT BULBS 💡 IF THEY STOPPED WORKING OR CHANGE TO DIFFERENT COLORS 🤔 THANK YOU ! MINE HAS BEEN ACTING UP FOR A WHILE NOW. IT COMES ON WHEN IT WANTS SO I'VE BEEN TAKING PICS OF MY MILEAGE, WHEN IT'S SAFE , IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. I'LL HAVE TO TRY THIS ONCE THE WEATHER IS BETTER . DID YOR FAN EVER STOP WORKING FOR THE HEATER & AIR CONDITIONER ? THAT'S WHAT I'M LOOKING AT RIGHT NOW & I GUESS NOT ALL 1999 + FORD F150 XLT 4.6L EXTENDED CAB 4×4 'S COME WITH CABIN AIR FILTERS ? I FOUND OUT THE RESISTOR TO MAKE THE BLOWER TO DO IT'S JOB ARE IN THE SAME PLACE SO WILL HAVE TO CHECK IF MINE IS SETUP FOR THE CABIN AIR FILTER ? THANK YOU FOR SHOWING HOW TO FIX THE ODOMETER PROBLEM . YOU MADE IT LOOK EASY BUT I KNOW IT WASN'T / EASY . BE SAFE! HAVE FUN ! ENJOYED ❤️ GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 😊 🙏 OH ANY SPECIAL SOLDER TO USE / GET ?
Watched the video to do mine but when I pulled it out it's completely different. My truck is a 5spd so if anyone can refer me to another video that would be greatly appreciated, tried looking it up here on RUclips but no luck on finding anything.
One of the BEST "how to" videos I've seen. Thank you!!
Finally fixed my 2001 odometer with the help of your video. (over 363,000 miles)
Thank you so very much Dude.
Painted the gear selector indicator orange too. 🙂
Godspeed everyone.
2002 320K odometer sometimes dont come on and sometimes its blinking/flashing
I watched several videos on this repair and I found yours to be the best for me. I repaired my 2000 F150 by following your instructions. Thank you. It is great having my odometer lighting up again.
Were your gauges 'dead' as well? My needles bounce when i turn key on, but remain dead after truck is running
Great tutorial, esp. since I have an 01 F150 with a dead odometer. My auto shop quoted me $1,200 to repair. I already have a soldering iron so it should cost me nothing also. Thanks again.

visual on the shifter removal was golden. thank you

Superb! Straight to the point and don't have to take half the dash to reach remove the cluster. You explained it very well.
GOOD job on listing all the tools needed before job starts! Looks like the most tedious part is soldering those points, have to have a Steady Hand!, THANKS for taking the time to take yours apart again to save a stranger some money MUCH APPRECIATED!👍✌
The soldering is a breeze. Just practice on a something if you've never done it b4.
Awesome walk through, thanks so much for explaining it and showing it in such a straightforward way. Appreciate it!
I don't know if the solder joint was broken or not. They are very small pins, and I have terrible vision. Anyway I soldered the one on the end and it works now, so thank you for the video. Kudos to PerryBuilt for talking it apart again after it was already fixed.
Awesome video! You explained everything on how to fix the problem I was having. And was nice enough to show the tools needed for the job!
Dude! I have a 2002 F150 Harley Davidson that the odometer would show erratically or not at all and the gas gauge would sometimes show and sometimes stay on the pin below E. Very good video! Soldered both end pins and all working now! Brilliant! Thank you!
I want to thank you on posting this video. I have been having this damn issue forever, and not knowing what it could be. Thanks man. Be safe!

Wow. Absolutely great video. Mine's intermittent but going out more and more so I'm going to fix it this week. Great tip on the selector, makes it so much easier to get the display out. Thanks so much for taking the time to make it.

Excellent..... very helpful Thank you
For people taking out the light switches look up slick ridez tach upgrade theres a special to take it out so you don't break it
thanks Perry. it worked. nice work.
Is there a way to get an odometer reading when the display is out?
Does this normally fix the dead gauges as well?
Nice work man thank you
Made the fix. Now the odometer works until you turn on the lights. Lights come on but the odometer goes dark. Not sure what went wrong?
sounds like something is wrong with that rheostat or the wiring to it.
@@briandeines5019 Found the problem. Operator error.
The lights are flickering with the lights on.
Thank you for this video.
Thanks, good explanation.
Outstanding bro
Watched the video to do mine but when I pulled it out it's completely different. My truck is a 5spd so if anyone can refer me to another video that would be greatly appreciated, tried looking it up here on RUclips but no luck on finding anything.
How do I get the gear shifter to move down without the engine on?
did you ever experience an issue with the gauges not working and just the warning lights?
That’s what I’m dealing with right now and also odometer in and out. Gunna try this and hopefully it fixes gauges too.
Hi, I’m a little confused on the sautering (I think that’s what you said?) I saw where you did it on the motherboard but I’m just confused.

What about it confused u?
