Great Duo ! R.I.P. to the great Michel Legrand. The music as always lives on. As for Mr. Good King Bad himself- there are no words left to describe this singular supreme talent who got in the blessing line twice as the greatest vocal chameleon ever & as the greatest all around guitarist ever.
This song, Watch what happens, is wonderful, maybe the best of Legrand but i am sorry to say this cover is poor. It needs to be played more softly like in the cover by Errol Garner or Sergio Mendes. I guess Benson alone could have got it, but Legrand did not let him. We must accept it cause he is the composer but....
Didnt like that legrande didnt care to have a dialogue at the intro. He was just shadowing and play virtuosism with no sense for the melody. Personal opinion: didnt like it
It seemed like Legrand wanted to Impress benson and was excited to have a scat competition with. I thought it was really fun. Best part was Benson’s really melodic swing improv.
