I really enjoy the opportunity to paint white armour - hopefully this video will take the worry away from painting a traditionally hard to get right colour! I'd love to hear your feedback!
Know it's a late comment to your sir, just thinking of starting the Order.... Is it easy to work to white from a grey undercoat, not that confident painting else
Depends on how dark the grey is that you start from - grey seer is a really light grey - similarly corax white is a really good base paint! If you have a look at my white scars tutorial, you can see a different way of painting white armour
I was literally trying to search a good video on how to paint The Sacred Rose yesterday. I couldn’t find anything though, and now behold this beauty of a video!!!
@@ThePaintingCoach Hey so I started painting, just one question, what should the ratio of paint to water be for my white paints? I'm used to Necrons (lots of metallic paints) and I heard yellow and white are hard to work with. Any tips for the consistency of my paints?
@@samvortex2802 I'd say around 2:1 paint:water and it really depends on the type of paint (eg base paits are thicker) and what kind of palette you are using. Corax white from the pot is very thick so I do that at a 1:1 ratio water and paint. It also has great coverage. Yellow and white can be complicated - i've tried to simplify them in this video and my imperial fist video. In this video for example I have relied entirely on the primer. And with yellow, a lighter primer again is a god send! I hope that helps!
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you, my good sir, I will test some things out but this definitely helps! Can't wait to finish up my squad and get the army going - white armor is badass as all hell! Cheers mate!
I have not painted in 15 years but I will usw this for my White Scars. I love this white armor. Sure there are way better ones but this is enough for me. 😊😊😊🙌🙌🙌🙌
I have a squad of Battle sisters, I painted them all with the black variant and I'm painting only one of the models white. Thanks for the upload man, really helped me out a lot!
Great video, thanks :) I'm considering painting some white sororitas like this and thinking of having a red tabard. Other than a pinky/purpley inside lining, what else do you reckon might work with the red cloth and white armour?
I'm a beginner with 40k and as cool as the black and red with white hair color scheme is, I feel like its as unique as the Sacred Rose. Plus I really like their lore a lot.
I’m thinking about starting a Sisters of Battle kill team and I love this color scheme! Thank you for the video! Now I’ll need to test my painting skill and focus when painting these models.
Thanks so much for this guide! It's so helpful - I'm just about to start an Order of the Sacred Rose army and I had no idea about how to do the white parts especially!
I was honestly getting scared off doing this paint scheme because white is notoriously hard and I could find any good guides. That I found this! Great video man
Awesome video. I'm going to start sisters soon, and as it's my third army and I've got some experience I'd love to try out this white armour. Think I'll do purple instead of red for the robes though
Do you think the white would work without apothecary white? I have the 50 paint set from Army Painter and not really keen on buying more paints, but I love this look!
Winsor & Newton Series 7 are amazing brushes but they are somewhat fragile. They require care to last. If your rough on your brushes I would look at other Winsor brushes. I really enjoy the Cotman watercolor brushes, they work well, somewhat durable, and inexpensive to replace.
I've found W&N to be the most durable of the 'premium' brushes. A little masters brush soap goes a long way! Thanks for the tip - I'll see if i can find any to try!
Great tutorial and just what I was looking for! Thanks for making this. The white looks great, any chance you could explain the base coat process? I wasn't sure what the two spray 45 degree angle technique was.
Thanks a lot - I appreciate the feedback! In terms of priming, prime the whole model with grey seer, then take a can of corax white and spray down at a 45 degree angle - if you imagine the mini being the vertical and the base a horizontal axis. This means that you only catch the top parts so you create some natural shadow - hope that helps - if you're still not sure then have a look at zenithal priming
I'm looking forward to painting my new Sisters using this scheme! I know this video is old but have a question if you have the time. Since Corax White spray has been discontinued, should I just prime them in only White Scar? Should I still use Grey Seer first and then White Scar? Or should I use Grey Seer and airbrush Corax White. Also can you explain what you mean by 'spray at 45 degrees'? Thank you.
White scar over grey seer will be fine - by 45 degrees I mean to essentially spray your mini only from above so you keep the darker colours in the recesses
Hello, i'm really late to the party but I had some questions as to how you started. I saw in your description that you use an Airbrush and compressor. When you said you started with a coat of grey seer, then Corax White. Did you use a grey spray can primer? Then Airbrush Corax white as a base coat? Or did you use both cans of spray for the grey and white and forgo the Airbrush?
@@ThePaintingCoach Excellent thank you. I did want to get into Airbrushing. I used to do it when I was in highschool, now nearly 30 years later I wanted to start again. I assume you used spray cans for both the grey and white base, to be efficient and quick as Airbrushing a base coat would be more time consuming. Does Citadel make paints that can be used in an airbrush? Or is it all spray cans and brush stuff?
Where can I get this faction or am I just dumb and paint the regular minis as order of the sacred rose and boom I have it or is it something I'm missing I'm not quite sure.
My wife and I are painting the Battle Sisters and primed them with Wraithbone. Looking to do a light blue/white/gold scheme. Do you think the Wraithbone primer would be okay to work with? Thank you!!
Thanks for leaving a comment! It depends on what paints you plan to use. If you use normal base and layer paints, you won't really notice a difference. If you use contrast paints, then you'll generally get a warmer tone to them than you would with grey seer and corax white. That being said, wraithbone will be absolutely fine, and your scheme sounds really interesting!
I'm so tempted by Sacred Rose... Always had a thing for pristine white armour.... In the dark dark future of 40k. Just the hair colours though know it sounds weird, know I'd need more helmets just not sure whether to make them the uniformed black or various!? Curse my over thinking
Thanks for the comment! You can use corax white from the pot - it's got great coverage - just be aware that you may have to paint the entire panel, rather than just the mistake - hope that helps!
Thanks for the comment - I'm not sure - you could try diluting some Drakenhoff Nightshade - maybe like 10/1 with lahmian medium - I would test on a spare bit of plastic You could also trynsome really thinned down Russ Grey
Imagine two lines on the mini - one going directly vertical from the head and one going directly horizontal from the base. This is a right angle that contains 90 degrees - if you then connect the ends of the vertical and horizontal lines, 45 degrees will be in the middle of this new line By spraying at this angle, you will catch the uppermost facing surfaces, leaving shadow in the recesses and brighter areas facing the light
@@ThePaintingCoach oh okay thank you so much for explaining it. I know its a dumb question but i really like your tutorial and i plan on following it soon. Thank you for replying to such an old video!
Very nice tutorial, but can I ask why go through the agony of working the white around the other colours like that? Surely applying the Contrast paint and drybrushing/edge highlighting the white before adding any other colours would have been easier?
Thanks for the comment! For me i did the white last to make sure that i'm not having to go back and fix mistakes You can definitely do it the way you described - it might be more difficult to fix any mistakes you make later on, as you will have built up lots of different textures and layers
