19th overall feels like quite the steal with 20/20 hindsight…. That’s the year the Oil drafted Yakupov first overall
In their defense he was an absolute stud for like 7 games that season 😂
Brodeur also played before the salary cap era existed. So it’s much more difficult for a team to remain elite.
Thank you Detroit for setting us up with him
Wish I could like this a million times
really happy for vasilevskiy. the big cat's been a major factor the last 6 years as to why TBL has achieved so much regular and postseason success.
the last 2 years have been a struggle to be polite, compared to how he was from 2020-2022. he did have a back injury so now with 2 early p-off exits, hopefully his back is in good shape.
tampa has a decent team. the cup window is def closing, but not quite snapped shut. however if andrei can get back to that 2020-2022 form (or comparable to that) the bolts could surprise some people come p-off time.
go bolts ⚡
1st ballot HoF already. I think 500 is in reach if he stays healthy and the Lightning are good. 400 is a certainty.
Took Tampa long enough, should’ve had it against the Flyers last week
Thanks for the video! Two top ten players of the modern era videos in one day! Might catch Quick and Bob but even the Flower will be tough for him to surpass, forget about Brodeur, IMO. Needs a third cup ring (or more) and avoid future injuries to really squelch the arguments about his top ten-ness.
Great video Shannon! Vasi's my player in the league - great to see him continue to thrive and rack up wins
Vasi is a true number one goalie in this league who could play 70 games like goalies back in the day. His compete level is to be admired.
I think Vasy will retire pretty early, he has the hardware already, so once he tires of the grind he'll just hang em up
I hope not. As I said above I think he is or should bein the conversation as Goalie GOAT. I think he may not get that recognition on a truncated career, though I could be wrong.
Yesss I asked!!
I saw your comment on the Mcdavid video then I laughed out loud when I saw this video
Legend
Incredible player, probably in the top 5 of playoffs goaltenders I've seen during my 30 years of watching the game. Honestly I think Vasis prime is in the past, he hasn't looked quite like himself since the finals vs the Avs. I can see him playing for 7-8 more years avg 25 wins during that span taken into consideration TB might decline, him getting injured and so on.
Brodeurs wins record is quite safe for now given how few starts you get in this era. 1266 gp, 691 wins would be similiar to a skater playing 2000 games while also, say, averaging a point per game and a 20+ toi avg. Add in Brodeurs playoff games and it's even more absurd. Just highly unlikely anyone gets even close.
As a Habs fan, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Vasy. In those 2021 Finals (and the playoffs as a whole) Vasy was an absolute nightmare. Tampa was obviously the better team overall but I felt like if Tampa had anyone else in net then MAYBE the Habs could have stolen that Final. But Vasy was ridiculous. There was no denying him that year.
as a tampa guy i appreciate the respect. my only bellyache from 2021 was the idiot quebec government not allowing more fans to attend the SCF at bell center.
to be the best you wanna compete in the most harshest, difficult environments and i think bell center is the best arena for fan energy, excitement when things are happening. saw it with halak-mania in 2010 and the 2014 ECF run.
MTL is going thru some rough sledding but they got good front office guys with gorton and hughes.
i hope xhekaj can work things out with his mistakes. him and guhle are my favorite habs.
am looking forward to seeing what hage and demidov can do, once they come over to MTL.
lane hutson has been a positive thus far. i can see MTL in a few years time, 2-3 years, knocking on the door for a p-off spot.
the big KPI this year is can they get out of the bottom 8. since the 2021 SCF run, montreal has finished 32, 28, 28.
selfishly i want MTL back in the p-off's sooner rather than later because it's good for the game, good for TV. there's no better arena/fan energy than the bell center when the canadiens are icing competitive teams in the p-off's.
-cheers 🍻
Stolen that final? You won a single game because they wanted to win at home. You got smoked 4 out of 5 games. It wasn’t close lol but cope harder I guess.
@@KingTutsstankyleg you have nothing but hatred in your heart
Hellebuyck is 13 wins away from 300 and Varlamov needs 11, when do you think they will get there?
Helle is getting there by the new year😂
Andersen is 2 wins away from 300, he should be second fastes to 300 after Vasi.
Bobs career hit a huge mark recently as well
It's on the board.
With SOWs Vasi could get to 600 when it's all said and done... It also makes me wonder what Brodeur would've finished with if those 105 ties of his went to shootouts. Great accomplishment for Vasi, we'll see if Tampa can stay good for another decade or not.
Dose this include playoff wins too?
I think Lightning should be a contender for next 5-6 years, so if he can average 30 wins and that's doable, he should get to 500 wins in between 2029-30 and 2030-31 season (if he stays healthy ofc). He will be 36 years old in 2030. Then we'll see, if Fleury can get to 560+, Vasy can also do it.
THG talks a lot about Vasy being injuried, but I don't think that's a problem. He hurt his back last year, but that was while he was doing squats in the gym, not during a game or warmup, so he's not injury prone. Before that I can remember 2019 when Louis Domingue had 11 game winning streak. He's big, strong, well protected by his teammates, so he should stay healthy.
does Bobrovsky get a video as well?
For as long as Vasy is playing in Tampa, they are a contender.
But I may be biast as a Tampa area resident.
i'm a tampa fan in canada and TBL is def not a stanley cup contender right now. i predict a 3rd place/wildcard spot finish and at best a 2nd round exit.
defence is suspect and there's not enough depth to hang with FLA in the p-off's.
yeah, that Brodeur record isn't going to be touched.
I would say as things stand Roy is probably the greatest of all time, but Vasy, at least will be stacked up next to him by the end of his career. With more wins, Cup rings and maybe another conn smythe I think Vasy coild retire as the goat. This from a non Tampa fan btw.
Dominator better than both
Soo why cant goalies play 70-75 games back when i was young the was the norm guys like belfour hasek brodeur and others consistently reached those numbers what changed?
To save them. To ensure they are not "overplayed" and potentially hurt themselves. There's other people who can properly explain it in full. This is just a quick summary of one aspect.
@Magdalena8008s but guys like broduer roy and belfour would play 70-75 games and then 20 some play off games years on end and not get tired
@@rhaspados666 look at how many shots bordeur and Roy faced on average per night, brodeur played behind the new Jersey devils defense back then which helped a ton with his ability to play so many games because he didn't have to face as many shots. Same with Roy with the avalanche, a goalie can play a ton if they are barely facing 20 shots a night.
Skaters are much faster, better puck movement, and harder shots overall. More quality goalies and the previous factors make it unnecessary for them to play that many games. Harder to play goalie today
@HYP3DSNIP3R idk man if hasek can play 70ish games doin his thing i think guys can play more
I hate him and every other good goalie in the league.
Sincerely,
Avs fan
He’s kind of the Patrick Roy of his generation.
Roy managed to carry average Habs team into the stanley cup, no one will come close to him again
I like the whalers banner !!!! Is there a point where a goaltender hits the hof
Statistically
Not a hard set one. IMO you have to be a top 5 goalie in the league for 5-8yrs+, have playoff success (a string of deep runs, a cup strengthens the case), and individual hardware (Vezina, Conn Smythe, Olympic Medal, maybe a Hart Trophy finalist -- multiples in any of these makes the case that much stronger). 300W is a great plateau to reach, but not a clincher all by itself.
In Vasy's case he's a future HOFer - 300W, 2 cups, 1 Conn Smythe, 1 Vezina, All-NHL 1st/2nd team selections, and some international success. He'll definitely hit 400+wins, and still has a lot of time to add to his resume. If he does he'll be a 1st ballot lock on an already impressive body of work as is.
Players like Curtis Joseph and Chris Osgood have 400+ wins and check some boxes, but not enough to make it in yet despite many years of eligibility (mainly lacking individual hardware/recognitions when it comes down to it).
Osgood should be in over 400 wins, 3 Cups
