The more I prescribe this technique and observe the results, the more convinced I am that everyone should be doing it, as the causes of upward-moving vata are so ubiquitous in our culture today.
In Ayurveda, there is a condition called upward-moving vata or udvarta. There are many reasons for this condition, including stress and various forms of indigestion. What is interesting about this condition is that when vata goes up from the pelvis instead of down, it brings with it toxins from the liver and large intestines to the head and neck that were ear-marked for the toilet.
What's worse is that the upward-moving vata can cause the stomach to adhere itself to the underside of the diaphragm, rendering the stomach unable to digest hard-to-digest foods like wheat, dairy and fatty foods.

I suddenly got a stomach ache when I got back home today so I took tums, drank soda, took pesto bismol, but still felt the uncomfortable pain in my belly. So I turned to RUclips videos for exercises for indigestion and wow I really do feel a lot better after this! Thank you for the video.

Thank you so much for explaining this. My chiropractor kept telling me I have hiatal hernia, and here's why, and here's a road map to getting better. Wow. Many thanks.

So interesting. Saw a chiropractor years ago and he said my stomach was pushed up (my words to describe what he said). He pushed down from under my rib cage and sort of massaged in a downward direction. I felt completely different when I left that appointment. I think he did it at two appts. I couldn’t afford to keep seeing him, but I felt he was helping with my health issues.

for those confused which side the stomach is - notice the polo logo on the shirt. it is a mirror image and is usually embroidered on the left side.
so this video is flipped vertically. the Dr is showing the location correctly.

Hi John I’m from Portugal sorry for bad english, I've been struggling with digestive problems for the past 7/8 years. I have heartburn and reflux and abdominal bloating, so I took anti-acids for 5 years (it took away the hearturn) until the day my digestion stopped 2 years ago and I felt very sick for 2/3 days, I could not eat anything I had no appetite and I felt my stomach full even when I didn’t ate for many hours and I got even fever. After this day I've been investigating natural cures to bad digestion and now I know I probably have very low stomach acid and I've been taking HCL+betaine every big meal and it really helps, I feel much better taking it, I also changed my diet I'm not eating gluten or lactose and I cut out most of refined sugars, I replaced my carbs from rice and pasta to sweet potatoes and I'm trying to eat veggies to get more fiber (about the veggies I still eat very few but I'm trying). But even after more than 1 year taking HCL I still have intestinal bloating and I cant stop taking HCL+betaine, I tried to get off it for the past week and I started to have constipation and a few days later I got very sick again (exactly like I was 2 years ago when I took anti-acids), my digestion stopped again and I can’t eat anything and I have fever. So why my digestion is not healing even after all this changes in my diet? Is it possible my diet hasn't still enough fiber? Should I do anything else? You would probably save my life answering me, thanks in advance!

Sergio Domingues Remove any dairy. Drink baking soda and lemon water. Also hydrated as much as possible. Eat more apples, berries and celery for fiber.

namaste, take empty stomach aloe Vera, amla juice, mint lime and green tea bag, vinegar and cinnamon, wheat grass, barely grass, alpha alpha powder, 2-3 liter water all these empty stomach morning and evening.

Sergio- I don't know how you are doing now, good I hope. My digestion completely stopped after months of feeling terrible and struggling. I ended up seeing the doctor and he said I was having a gallstone attack. I researched it and did several liver flushes and completely resolved my issues! Now, more tham 15 years later, when I am longer than 6 months without doing a flush my same problems show up until I can't digest anymore, so I do another flush. Pleas look into doing liver flushes and let me know how you're doing.

I have had very intense digestive issues and then had my first gallstone incident several months ago. I came across Dr. Douillard's website, lifespa.com when I was looking for alternatives to just going to a doctor and having my gallbladder removed. He has extensive information on how your entire digestive system works (and doesn't work) that addressed every issue I had. You can heal and reset your digestive system. I strongly advise you to check out his website, which you can access from the links he provides above.

Always great content. I have what feels like bubbles foaming on the surface of the stomach liquid. So many diagnostics that went nowhere. Last one in date is that it's coming from a thyroid issue. It seems so far off that it could be genius. Nevertheless, it's not improving. I am eating clean but light since I get quickly bloated. I seem to have malabsorption as well, so it's difficult to keep on going like this. No pain, but a constant uncomfortable feeling. I wish I could find some solution.

If you have hiatal hernia, shouldn't you breathe out first then pull the stomach down? The diaphram tightens when you breathe in which would make it harder for the hernia to come down.

Good morning Dr. John. I believed I have poor digestion and stagnant lymph. Have seen many doctors and is by chance I saw your youtube sharing. I can't help being amazed by all knowledge gain. Have ordered and started taking manjistha and lymph cleanse. Since I have problem swallowing, I actually pour the manjistha powder out into water and drink them. May I know, whether I can add the drop of lymph cleanse into it and drink it along with my manjistha? Thank you.

Hello, I am just the past few days discovering I may have this issue. Would this produce palpitations with the stomach pushing up? Or perhaps from too tight underwire bra with much extra fat around midline? Also causing burps, gas, some bloating, flatulence. I originally thought I damaged my vagus nerve wearing these bras while working(alot of bending, pushing, pulling etc).

I have severe nausea, cramps, bloating, and burping when it will actually come up (when it doesnt it just forces the food up or acid in my stomach and causes more pain and discomfort). I also get heartburn and indigestion alot. I have been pregnant twice in a short time (theyre only 13mo apart) and have had tests done that show nothing.. ulcers, gallbladder sludge and stones, and kidney issues have been ruled out... any idea what it could be? i tried this exercise and it hurt alot but also helped and felt more comfortable after but this could just be placebo. Please let me know what this sounds like to you. also in case it matters ive tried stomach acid reducing pills and they never help much i still get heartburn, and zoloft doesnt help with the nausea either. the only thing ive tried that helps so far is baking soda water and it makes my stomach churn til i burp and im relieved for awhile but it always comes back within a few hours or so. or as soon as i eat again... any info would be great thanks! :D

Daggeress My alternative medicine doctor told me to lay off night shades (white potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, egg plant), lemon, anything with citric acid (a preservative in many things--check label), non gmo corn including all its syrups, chocolate with added junk, peanuts and a few other things. She also put me on a protein enzyme. Sounds like you are intolerant to some foods you are eating that an MD wont know a thing about. She also used this method to pull my stomach down and closed my ilio cical valve. Hope you can find someone who can test you.
