Been listening to In Flames since “Whoracle” dropped. This tune absolutely slams! In Flames is legendary and was at the forefront of the Gothenburg sound.
EDIT: Check out the band “The Halo Effect”, which contains original members of In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.

    • @puppetmaster8551
      @puppetmaster8551 Год назад

Honest the halo effect kinda disappointed to me, got my expectations super high because of the lineup and it honestly just mainly sounded like modern DT, didn’t sound that much like in flames at all and didn’t sound super fresh either. Not a bad album but not nearly as good as you’d think with that lineup Imo. I honestly think state of slow decay is better than any song on the halo effect record.

In Flames was my favorite band for a long time. Late 2000's they kinda lost me because they went a bit butt-rocky. But this? This was much more like their good stuff. I would pause at Come Clarity and anything newer than that. A Sense of Purpose has some great moments, but it's the older stuff you'd love.

Tbh, I'd rather listen to In Flames butt-rock because it's still heavier and more melodic than actual butt-rock lol.

I've been listening to In Flames since 2006 when Come Clarity came out, one of my favorite albums from them. They've gone through MANY different style changes through the decades, many ups and many downs. Lately their stuff has been mostly sounding like they're 'pretending' to sound like their old sound, which is fast-paced, thrashy and, well, In Flames lol. I will admit, their most recent album, not the remaster of Clayman but I, The Mask, was pretty good, like it was getting there. But this song? This actually felt like a proper return to form to me. I'm now actually looking forward to the new album if the rest of it's gonna sound like this!
If you haven't check out In Flames yet, you really should. I personally started with Come Clarity, but other great albums are Cl;ayman, Whoracle, Colony and, my personal hot take, Soundtrack to Your Escape. 30 years these guys have been around, and they're still going. Simply amazing.
I love melodic death metal and hope this turns y'all on to it too. Have a brutal day and In Flames We Trust!

I started listening when Clayman came out then haven't really enjoyed to the fullest after Come Clarity. This single definitely brings me back to their early 2000's sound which is awesome. I purchased tickets for Meshuggah this fall and In Flames will be opening for them! I wasn't expecting seeing 2 of my favorite bands for the first time on the same stage. I think they've been working with Meshuggah possibly, the sound, the beards, the photography are very similar. M fans think In Flames are weak sounding but we'll see with this upcoming album. I can't wait.

Aging bands will always be damned if they do, damned if they don't. They either sold out, changed too much or too little and try to sound like their younger selves. Who cares, opinions of metal elitists don't matter. The debates don't influence anything, bands don't care and fans don't care. Enjoy it if you like it.
I was massively into If from jester race to clayman, then checked out of metal in general for 10-15 years or so. This song is good and i sort of like halo effect too. But i'm more into moodier, more ambient metal these days.
I have to resist the urge to say dismiss the cynic lol.

It was technically a good intro into them. I’m a big fan since I don’t know how long, saw all their changes and loved them all. I know that many people didn’t like their last, “softer” albums. But this new song is the heaviest they released in years. Very interesting what more new stuff brings to the table.
    Great reaction like always!

Damn! This track is the heaviest stuff they have put out since A Sense Of Purpose (at least as far as their current sound goes). So nostalgic hearing them again. Though I must admit there is something missing without Jesper Stromblad's iconic riff work and guitar solos and I miss what the other former members brought to the music as well.
This band along with bands like At The Gates are pretty much responsible for influencing modern metalcore as a whole and even a lot of early deathcore.
Fun fact: Will Ramos of Lorna Shore loves this band and were a major inspiration for him. Also they did a song with Pendulum called Self vs Self which I highly recommend checking out.

Soundtrack to Your Escape is literally what it is. It's by far my most listened to album from them. I started listening to them by accident because I meant to pick up another album from BestBuy when they had CD's, and I bought Come Clarity, and they've literally been my most listened to band since. Anders is such a gifted lyricist, he knows how to hit deep dark depths that people shove away. I'm partially bias too since I'm from Scandinavian decent lol. Dig through their albums and find what resonates with you, that's how they've stuck with me, no other band can do what they do for what I like to hear.

Love the reaction, mate. Been following you for some time now. Here is In Flames perspective if you're interested in one from a Jesterhead (In Flames fans call themselves that) for over 20 years now. My fav band with Orbit Culture being in second place (I'm sure you'll appreciate this knowing how much you like Orbit Culture).
In Flames is (was?) one of the greatest metal bands ever. Their riffs, melodies and lyrics are legendary. No arguments there. As for this song it is definitely positive surprise to me as it sounds more like songs from Come Clarity (2006) which is an amazing album. Think it was declared as best album of the decade from all music genres in Sweden. That bloody good. Take This Life song is similar to this one but imo much better. Every song from Come Clarity ranges from good to amazing so start there if you want to delve deeper into In Flames. You won't regret it. Anders has his voice back in this song which is bloody amazing. His screams are unique and so fucking good that I still consider him based on past singing as best screamer in the business just because of screaming tone. I know he isn't but his screams suit me the best. His cleans are not good, live or in studio. Listened to him live twice. His live screams can turn your blood cold standing but cleans are terrible unfortunately. He can't sing cleans if his life depended on it.
That being said, legendary In Flames are from the 90's. Riffs are gonna bounce in your head for months after listening to songs like December Flower, Jotun, Clad in Shadows '99, Only for the Weak, Pinball Map, Bullet Ride, Jester's Race, Moonshield, Worlds Within the Margin, The Hive... Too many to list. So many masterpieces it is ridiculous. From 2000 In Flames definitely My Sweet Shadow, Take This Life, Alias, Vacuum, System.... Again too many to list. Hopefully you react to some of the songs on the channel. Would love to see it!
Honestly after 2009 and Sense of Purpose they are not worth listening to, considering the music you usually post on the channel.
Check out also Halo Effect, band composed of previous In Flames members and Dark Tranquility singer (who started his career with In Flames on their debut album back in '93). True melodic metal there with great riffs. However nothing compares to old In Flames riffs. Just have to listen, I guess.
    Keep it going, mate!

This is definitely the single heaviest song they’ve done since at least 2006’s Come Clarity. Their first five albums, along with At The Gates’ 90s output and same with Dark Tranquility, wrote the book for Swedish melodic death metal. They morphed into metalcore with 2002’s Reroute to Remain and have ebbed and flowed in quality ever since (Come Clarity and 2008’s Sense of Purpose are definitely highlights for their post-2000 albums). This song however has given me high hopes for an overall heavier thrash/melodeath-ish album this time around. I was hoping 2019’s I, The Mask would be heavier given the lead single, I Am Above but alas… Overall, legendary band whose high points helped define a genre nearly 30 years ago!

Early/Mid-00's fan here, and I'm conflicted as to whether or not this is a good intro to them. It's a super solid song, but you definitely gotta give the older albums a whirl too. I'd personally recommend Come Clarity. Dead End is simply my personal favourite IF tune of all time. Then you got albums like Reroute To Remain, Whoracle and Clayman, which contains some of the most amazing music they've ever made in my humble opinion.
Friden's sideproject "Passenger" is also worth a listen. It's a lot different, they only released 1 album, but I can highly recommend tracks like "In Reverse", "Rain", "Circus" and "In My Head"

I always find it funny when people who are into modern melodic but blasting metal never listened to In Flames, because firstly they are what started it all for me and secondly in the years up from 2004 until like 2014 or something, their stuff was on heavy rotation in every metal club in Europe. Songs like Only for the Weak, Cloud Connected, My Sweet Shadow, The Quiet Place, Disconnected, Alias and Ropes where absolute Über-Hits on this side of the Big Pont. In Flames practically pioneered two of the most influential genres of modern metal generations and most Metalcore and modern Metal bands list In Flames as their number one influence. Giant bands like Trivium, Architects, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage or Parkway Drive simply sounded "like In Flames" in reviews of their early records. I bought Triviums Ember to Inferno just because there was a sticker on the cover that said "For Fans of In Flames" :D
For me In Flames has had four, almost five distinctive eras. 1. The Göteborgian Melodic Death Metal Era: A few Swedish bands from Göteborg started using Iron Maiden-style melodic leads on Death/Thrash riffs with Black Metal influenced vocals, namely Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates and In Flames. In Flames albums I would put into this era are all from "The Jester Race" until "Clayman" with "Lunar Strain" and the "Subterranean-EP" being the experimental albums to find their sound. "Clayman" also could count as the transitional album into the second era. 2. The Proto-Metalcore Era. This is when In Flames started incorporating elements in their music, that would later become absolutely vital for the typical metalcore sound, beautiful one string riffs, clean vocals in the chorus, heavy use of keyboards and synth pads, juicy minor key leads, thrashing fast headbangparts and even some breakdowns. The albums of this era are "Reroute to Remain", "Soundtrack to your Escape" and as a transition to the third era "Come Clarity". 3. The Full On Alternative Metal(core) Era. Probably my favorite era of In Flames, although I also absolutely love the albums of the second era. The vocals of Anders Friden where the most versatile on the two albums of the third era, "A Sense of Purpose" and "Sounds from a Playground Fading", the guitars became less virtuoso, more essence of catchiness, mainly because of Jesper Strömblad leaving the band and the songs became darker, with a hint of despair and less synth-overload. 4. The Alternative Stadium Rock But Kinda Quirky Era. For two, almost three albums In Flames reduced everything Metal (some even say left the world of Metal) and starting with "Siren Charms"(what to my ears, is the strangest album of them all) tried a little bit more rock-influenced sound. Some say they became soft and mainstream, but I absolutely would not describe "Siren Charms" as mainstream, it's difficult to listen to, it lacks the absolute catchiness of earlier albums and it kinda grinds my gears :D. The second album of this era, "Battles", is in my opinion the weakest overall album because it somehow sounds like a different band trying to copy In Flames, although I find it way easier to listen to than "Siren Charm" and it has some real great stadium hits, that are absolute bangers, like "The End" and it turns back to the catchy riffs from the third era a little, as well as some fast parts like in "Through my Eyes" . 5. The newest album "I, The Mask" could be the start of a new era, as this new single suggests that the next album is going further in this direction, it incorporates some punk attitudes and returned the Thrash-Riffs and really heavy screams from the second era while keeping the alternative rock anthem like choruses.
I hope some people read this little "history of In Flames" and could get into this awesome band, so I did not write this novel for nothing :D. It will forever be the band that was my gateway into heavier metal and I love them with all my heart!

A lot of people saying it sounds like Old In Flames but to me it sounds more like the riffier stuff from Soundtrack To Your Escape and Come Clarity than the 90s stuff. like, this could sit comfortably on the albums I mentioned but not on the Jester Race, Whoracle or Colony.
So I wouldn't agree when people say Old In Flames is back, mid era In Flames might be though

I seen them live with Megadeth, Job for a Cowboy and Children of Bodom back in like 2009 or so. Come clarity is definitely a go to album. The song Clouds Connected is definitely my favorite. Their older stuff in general is amazing!

Also I don't see any Epica in your videos so check out "Victims of Contingency" by them. I missed out on this band! I just finally got some of their material and they're awesome. They're a Symphonic Power Metal band with some death metal vocals! But also have a female lead vocalist.

My personal golden era for In Flames is from 2000-2011. Everything from Siren Charms til recently just fell flat for me. No disrespect to anyone who likes it, just not my vibe. But this track is very reminiscent of the In Flames I grew up on in the late 2000s. I'm a metalcore kid so the clean catchy chorus with intense melo-death/thrashy verses play to my preference very well.
With your taste for heavier, you may actually like their late 90's albums. Definitely more melo-death and less cleans. Glad you enjoy them and welcome to the club my dude. 🤘

Their best track in a long time, this one has very classic at the gates vibes with some of their middle to modern Era flair mixed in... sooooo good! If you like this you would love the Slaughter of the soul album by at the gates, blinded by fear sounds closest to this as well as the title track it self

Well you are in for a treat if you want to go back and listen to their old stuff, they have a lot of awesome material out there! I would say this is a great intro to them, and the sounds more in line with how they used to sound. Honestly tho I enjoy all their stuff, I don't have a favorite era of the band.

Well I listened to this song once before and well it was pretty good. Played it again and it was so much better. Their previous albums have left a sour taste in my mouth, going from melodic death metal to nu metal/alternative metal.. but I'd start from the beginning and work your way down the discography. Clayman left a bit of the melodeath, Soundtrack to Your Escape goes more into the nu metal/alternative metal, but well I absorbed the song better this time, definitely going to have to pick up this single! Still skeptical on their new album but if this is going to be the sound of the album, I'm all for it.
Also the solo is classic In Flames signature so I think they tossed that in for the older fans, since they're finally getting the hint the last 2 records or so they were just not too great but, well this was enjoyable. I loved your reaction too, just 🤘💀🤘

In flames (original sound) or there abouts
    Gyroscope
    Pinball map
    Onto for the weak
    Graveland
    The hive
    Episode 666
    Take this life
    Come clarity
    Newer in flames sound
    The mirrors truth
    Chosen pessimist
    Where dead ships dwell
    The end
    The truth
    I am above
    We will remember
    Stay with me
The new song fits in perfectly between both more towards the old sound if anything.

I don't think you'll appreciate too much their recent discography, because this song is way heavier than all of their late songs (expecially if you don't appreciate the clean choruses... any recent In Flames song is packed with them!). As for me, I really dig any of their change of style (except maybe for the "Battles" album, too calm and polite for me)... but this song is just like dynamite! If the album is as good as this song promises, the name "In Flames" will shine once more.

Weird sentence to say but In Flames sounds like In Flames. This has that Jesper Stromblad feel but still also feels like a post-Jesper In Flames, so they are still keeping their identity while returning to their roots. Hope that makes sense.

In Flames are technically Melodic Death Metal, but I see why you would have it confused with thrash, either way, I'd say it's a pretty decent introduction to them, because it sounds more like their older stuff.
