We are on day four of stasis right now with Max (a four year old Netherland dwarf). Doing all the things you are doing. Today was the first poo balls. We are praying for Oshi as well. Blessings.
Hello from Germany, we experienced similar probelms and since then we feed our bunnies a tea spoon of sunflower seeds every morning. They love it and we haven't had digestion problems since then. All the best for the little bunny Yoshi, best wishes!
Thank you. My bun currently has this and I'm so sad and exhausted. Just want him to feel better. We're home now, watching him and hoping I'm doing everything right.
I'm terrified of needles, but ended up administering fluids to my cat for several days. Unfortunately, she didn't make it, but I was surprised at how calm she was during the whole process. She didn't seem to notice what was going on, and just sat in my lap.
We went through something similar with our Lionhead Leo last week. Unfortunately it was a weekend and late at night so no vet was open. We keep Oxbows Critical Care and Simethicone handy and after 6 hours he was back to eating on his own. It's definitely very important to have an "emergency kit" with everything you need for this! So glad Yoshi is better! Great job catching this early!
I'm glad you're rabbit got better. I've just lost one who had been through a nasty bout of stasis. Medication, intravenous fluids, syringe feeding, stomach massages, three trips to the vet and she still didn't recover in the end. She was having fairly normal bowel movements for about a day-and-a-half, but never regained her usual levels of energy. She was lethargic, listless and didn't thrive until she went. I know I did the best I could for her, but I'm still sad she died like she did. If anything, it underscores how serious a rabbit going into stasis is and that it must be acted upon immediately because even with veterinary care, they don't always make it. :-(
1:08 "...and he's still acting normally" * bunny going crazy* 😂 Yoshi, you poor sweet baby! I'll be praying for your recovery 🙏Thank you so much for sharing your lovely fur and sweet self with us 💕 Poor baby deserves a few more tummy massages, too...
Thank you so much for these videos about rabbit health and wellness! I'm researching bunnies and greatly appreciate your passion for education and helping other bun owners.
This just happened to me and I was out of what I would use and so I had to just massage his belly and hope for the best luckily he's doing amazing now if I haven't watched your video I would have not known what to do
In my experience, bunnies usually respond to fluids, massage, and especially a pain reliever like Metacam, but Yoshi's was a tough case and slower than normal recovery. I still don't know what caused this unfortunately, so I'm nervous it may recur.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on rabbits lately because I’ve been quite obsessed with them for the past few years and I may finally be getting the opportunity to get one of my own. During some research and also just chilling back with some adorable bunny videos, I stumbled upon your channel and just loved to see your beautiful hollands! So it just broke my heart to know you poor bunny isn’t feeling very well. I hope he has a quick recovery and I hope for lots of poops! It brings me so much joy to see how much you care about your bunnies and how much your doing for him, I’m sure this poor baby is in very great hands with you, and I wish for the best for both of y’all!
Aww... poor Yoshi. I hope he gets better soon! Sending him hugs from London. 😔 I was latterly crying when I heard this. 😭 I wish I could be there to sit next to him and give him hugs and love.
Hi great advice Our 5 year old little house bunny had this issue last week. He has had a few gut episodes. As soon as he goes off his food and drink, and sits in a ball, or stops pooping the alarm bells ring and we give him pain relief (our vet gives us a bottle just in case, its not expensive) fluids using a small plastic syringe a few ml every hour, plus a few ml of fibreplex. After about 3 or 4 hours he usually starts eating his favorite greens but hay is the last thing he starts eating. If he does not start to pick up after 4 hours we contact the vet to make sure he does not have a blockage. One thing we monitor is that the bunny drinks, we put a mark on the bottle and he usually drinks 20mm down the bottle each day, and have found when he has not taken fluids the gut problems can start. Do not leave the bunny to recover themselves you need to help them and contact the vet after half a day if no improvement. 🐇🐇🐇🐇
Poor Yoshi! We will be praying for him to get better! I am not a bunny expert or anything, but a massage or two might make his belly calmer. It is good to see he is already pooping and getting fluids. (Little Yoshi is rocking out!)
Poor Yoshi. I hope he feels better soon! I can't imagine how much stress this must put on you. I have four bunnies of my own and it always gives me a scare when they show signs of GI stasis! Sending prayers.
Oh I’m so sorry! I’m glad he is feeling a little bit better! I hope he makes a full recovery!!!! My previous rabbit got fixed and idk what the problem was but she was not eating/pooping but once she started eating and pooping I was sooooo relieved. I feel you!
When our little Pinecone had stasis we had to rush him to the emergency vet. $1300 and a 16 hour stay later, he thumped and threw his food bowl at them so they said he was good enough to go home. That was 10 months ago and he's been good ever since but it was absolutely terrifying. So happy to see Yoshi doing well!
@@HooksHollands I don't have a rabbit but I do have cats and here in California its almost $130.00 + just for the office fee alone . Aren't we supposed to care for all animals? The veterinarians sure make it hard for even the most basic care .Especially if you are on a hateful budget......
I didn't leave our rabbit overnight (they wanted to keep 3-4 days and the visit cost over $700. Overnight would have been $3000+. My bunny has her attitude back but still isn't eating much on her own. :(
You did a great job! Glad Yoshi is doing well. Such a relief when you see them are getting better. You could try mixing a little bit of organic, unsweetened apple sauce in the recovery food. My buns seem to take it better that way. I heard people mix in canned pumpkin if you have that around. Two of mine had stasis over the holidays - one of them twice! Ugh. Had to give the SubQ fluids three times. I am getting better at it. Had to change the routine of my one boy who had it twice. He used to sleep under mommy's bed all night long. No more! I pen him in his room at night. He needs to be encouraged to eat and drink during the night. I wasn't about to put a litter box and water dish in my bedroom. Hoping this will prevent any future stasis for him. Also cut back on pellets. Trying to give them more as treats than a staple.
He didn't like it, but I got the recovery food in him thankfully. I do have some pumpkin for emergencies as well, but I never tried unsweetened applesauce; good tip! I'm glad you got your bunny through his bouts of stasis, and I agree that pellets are sometimes very difficult to get the quantity correct for each particular bunny. It's very frustrating!!
Yoshi sweet heart you seem so cute and fragile under your blanket near the hot water bottle. You're pooping again hallelujah 🙌 Funny and moving to watch Bunnies cleaning thoroughly themselves during hours. I love Bunnies 🐰 with a special big crush for the Holland Lop ones 💝 I know how it is hard to witness the pain of a beloved one. Lot of cuddles for Yoshi and His friends and thank you Diane for sharing once more your precious knowledges and experiences 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I just paid $1,600 for a 2 night stay at the emergency vet for my “free” rabbit🐰. Nancy had stasis also. I treated my other rabbit at home for it years ago,and he recovered well. I felt she should stay though and be treated there. Good thing I have a credit card🤪. It’s ok. I love her.
You are such a good rabbit mom (I'm sure human mom too lol!) We have two bunnies, I'm not sure I would notice the things you do. Thanks for the reminder to keep a better eye on things. And best of luck with Yoshi, but the news sound positive now!
It's definitely harder if you have two bunnies sharing food dishes, but you'll notice changes in behavior or see shrunken poo balls. That and appetite are the first signs...unless it's bloat, and then it's very sudden.
Oh no! I’m glad that he’s feeling better now and pooping again! Get well soon little sweetheart! I wonder why this has never happened to one of my bunnies, as I feed them fresh veggies, herbs, dandelion, tree leaves etc. I‘m glad that this is something we didn‘t have to go through.
Some bunnies never or rarely experience digestive issues, and others seem prone to it. I'm hoping this is the worst Yoshi ever gets it, but I'll be nervous about him for a while.
Thank you for the encouraging info! My little guy is doing an overnight stay at the vet and I've been anxious all day. I had no idea what was going on with him but your video was very informative about the kind of treatment I can expect him to be going through right now.

Oh goodness Diane. The challenges of loving and caring for bunnies never ends. Glad Yoshi is better tonight. Just went to the vet last week with my BeBe. She has "Snuffles." Antibiotic was prescribed for 14 days but stopped at 5 days as it seemed to be making her sicker. Alternatively, this could be allergy and I've been racking my brain as to what is new to her since this started. I'm thinking hay dust. Now I'm shaking all her hay outside before bringing it into her.
There is a test for pasteurella (snuffles), as it's a bacteria (though a persistent one). There is also a vaccine for it, but I'm not certain on the efficacy once pasteurella is already present. You could reach out to BunnyVac via their website or FB. They offer testing as well via nasal swab mailed to them. Best of luck. ♥

Was a little confusing, we don't give Metacam every 2 hours of course, just once a day.
I hope he continues to feel better!
