      I am aware and i am speaking for the part 1 of the remake so i wont judge too much till part 2 comes out but compared to the original, tim was the bigger star than the kids themselves whereas the new one focused mainly on the kids, also i didnt like the fact bills version was scary on sight,not exactly alluring to kids when its job is to feed on them, tims it was scarier imo because it was jolly on sight and when it transformed into something terrifying, it haunted you more

  • @MsBrendan11
    @MsBrendan11 6 лет назад +33

    A part of the new Pennywise (Bill's) that I really liked was the way they nailed his unpredictability and the fact that he was really just "attempting" to act like a clown, whereas Curry's version actually seemed like a clown. The scene where this sticks out to me is when he's talking to Georgie and he sorta forgets the clown persona he's trying to put on for a moment as he stares at Georgie with a creepy, hunger-driven look almost as if he's drooling at him in a trance. Then, Georgie says he has to get going and Pennywise snaps out of it and "attempts" to act like a clown again. Just shows how creepy his luring techniques are, and what he's actually thinking behind that smile..

    • @Gabreya
      @Gabreya 6 лет назад +6

      +MsBrendan11 Don't forget that before that, he was making Georgie laugh and feel at ease in manipulating him into thinking that he wasn't in any danger. When he suddenly just stops laughing and just stares at him which also stops Georgie from laughing. And you can tell that even Georgie thought that something didn't feel quite right with Pennywise.

    • @MsBrendan11
      @MsBrendan11 6 лет назад +2

      very true, was definitely a creepy scene, and shows Pennywise in a much darker image than Curry portrayed

    • @Gabreya
      @Gabreya 6 лет назад +1

      +MsBrendan11 Indeed. I think that was one of the best scenes in the film and a great moment of acting on both of the actors. In fact, I personally thought that it was rather adorable how Pennywise was having small talk with Georgie and making him laugh until he just abruptly stops laughing and stares at him with such a serious look on his face. In return, it made Georgie stop laughing and stare back at him with a confused and unnerved look on his face. That's how I also felt btw. I was thinking, "Uh... Why did he stop laughing? I'm starting to feel a bit uncomfortable now." This shows that when a person behaves so erratic and so sudden like this, even children can see the signs that something is very wrong with that person. And though, I still think that Tim Curry's portrayal as Pennywise was also rather creepy, Bill Skarsgard's portrayal was definitely way darker. There's a sense of unpredictability, extremeness, and sadism to his take on the character.

    • @trollking6315

      @@MsBrendan11 Tim was the better Pennywise. Bill just tries too hard to act creepy and his dance was stupid as hell. Without Tims amazing performance that took a kooky miniseries movie and made it into a horror icon, Bill wouldnt exist. Pay respect to the original.

      Joshua Mattel I have to disagree. The movie just has the basic outline of the children portions of the novel. As someone who read the book I hated the treatment of Mike Hanlon. Still a great film but the miniseries was actually closer to the novel.

    • @zimvader25
      @zimvader25 6 лет назад +46

      Wes Stewart the mini series was most definitely NOT closer to the novel. Only way is the storytelling part of going back and forth between multiple timelines. And tim currys pennywise is so far from the book version, it's not even a competition. It isnt a creepy killer clown. It is a demonic entity from another universe that tries to act human, taking the form of a clown, but fails miserably. Like the new version. There is absolutely nothing funny about It in the novel. The mini series was a joke, nothing more than a cheesy soap opera filled with stars of that era. They need to remake "the stand" and "the langoliers", as well, since those 2 were also completely butchered.

      Olivier Bertrand well they made the new one more like the book...they couldn't make the Tim Curry version a lot like the book because it would be very weird to put that on TV for the children to see....although I do agree with u the kids are more badass

      Olivier Bertrand Olivier Bertrand You're actually right, coming from someone who has read the book... I think overall, Skarsgard had the right idea and ultimately killed it (in a good way lol) but Curry was much better at manipulation/being more human-ish at times.

      Like in the novel. Tim curry put on a good daytime made for tv performance, but his "It" wasnt even close to the novel. In the novel there is nothing human about "it". It tries to act human taking the form of a clown, but fails and just comes across as a demon TRYING to act like a clown. Not actually acting like one, as curry played him.

    • @OliBert157
      @OliBert157 6 лет назад +3

      Fair point. It felt like the cockroach from MIB wearing the skin of a guy. I guess it wouldn't cut it now even if "It" was a thing, kids would flip it off and walk away.

    #3 (4:16) From what I understand from looking into the lore of IT - having never read the book or seen either adaptation due to being a wuss when it comes to horror - this scene actually alludes to the fact that IT is a primordial being presumably older than the universe itself, and that the human mind can't comprehend It's true appearance.

      @Jitkaas 6 лет назад +20

      digifreak90 yep, the book even says that right before Georgie died, that Pennywise changed his form, and what Georgie saw broke his mind. And the end of the book dedicates a few chapters to the perspective of IT, which are very insightful into its true nature.

      Stinky Bacon that's what is wrong with it. It looks scarier. This pennywise actually looks like a clown, which is why Tim Curry's Pennywise is actually scarier. With the new Pennywise, you obviously know that the clown is a murderer and literally looks like the work of the Devil. The 1990 Pennywise looks like your ordinary clown, which is much more scary and unsettling if you ask me

      Livy Avalon which is exactly how pennywise should be. It isn't a demonic killer clown, like curry played it. Oliver James McGregor I was hoping Bill's had more dimension to the clown. His sewer scene was brilliant but the rest not so much. Just a bunch of jump scares and screaming. • @theDerekWilder

    I really didn't like how Pennywise was portrayed in the new movie. In the 2017 version, Pennywise came across as a dumb animal who only eats kids out of necessity. Pennywise was constantly goofy and never really appeared to have any thoughts beyond instinct to eat. You couldn't tell if Pennywise was ever pissed off or scared or anything, only if he was hungry. Also its deadlights form looked so underwhelming and was like a couple of floating orange dots. At least Tim Curry lulled you into a false sense of security with his humor before suddenly turning all evil and killing you. Like when he kills the girl on the tricycle or kills Georgie, he suddenly turns mean and sinister, whereas Skarsgard's Pennywise was still smiling even as he was biting down on someone. Curry actually made IT out to be a calculating evil being with actual thoughts. Also, Tim Curry's deadlights form was WAY better. Compare how he floats around as Deadlights in the sewer and sucks up and eats Belch and turns Henry Bowers crazy in the 1990 version to the pathetic deadlights Pennywise showed in the new movie. Seriously, the new Pennywise is so overhyped it isn't funny. Tim Curry was way better as Pennywise on film. Also, wth was with the movie kills being censored? It's only an R rating because Eddie and Richie make dick measuring jokes and say the F word a lot. The kills in the movie are practically just as censored as the 1990 minseries version.

    i think we can all agree that comparing bill and tims pennywise characters is as useless as comparing the two big jokers. they both are doing completely different things. and both are doing them extremely well.

      I always look at that moment as Georgie gave him a new "catch phrase" sort of thing and Pennywise was just happy about it. And them kills him of course.

      Tim Curry played Ms. Hannigan's brother, Rooster, in Annie. Maybe that's why..

    Tim Curry's pennywise is like jack nicklsons joker twisted campy, upbeat, corny humor. bill skargards Pennywise is like Heath ledgers joker more gritty, unpredictable, darker with ocasional dark humor that's meant to terrify
