did you notice King describes Pennywise's vampire fangs "like razors" in the library scene...and Stan used a razor to cut his wrists? Stan's head also appears in the library later on. King's novels are loaded with tiny subtleties like that.
roflmows, I don't think so. "Like razors" is an incredibly commonplace descriptor that just means sharp. It's also pretty basic to use razors to cut one's wrists. No metaphors or symbolic connections here. Idk, maybe if there was something between razor blades and libraries?
I dunno if you're being entirely fair to King here - yes, his books are bloated, but it's usually intentional so as to completely immerse the reader in another place and time. It's all about theme and mood man.
Ah yes, I love his book he is still working on. You know the one right? Set in Maine, one of the characters if not a few are alcoholics, they deal with some sorta alien being out of this world, and they have anti religious undertones! Oh wait, that's a lot of his books.
Actually you guys are wrong. A girl did get murdered and grown up Mike Hanlon did found a picture of Georgie near the crime scene. The picture has been missing since Bill and Richie went back to check Georgie's moving and winking picture. Finding this photo is in fact the deciding factor for Mike to believe that IT did returned and called up the others. This is quite important in the book and the picture had driven a lot of flash back so I don't know how you could have missed it if you did read the book.
I think a lot of people really misunderstand the moments of levity found in the mini-series. I think they are very effective at showing how "It" is always present and how he can come at you at anytime. How he can take away what small moments of happiness you can find. It gives a real sense of dread as every time you let your guard down, he's there to punish you for it. I get the story was overall toned down for public audiences, I understand that, but I don't think people give the mini-series as much credit as it deserves.
Tobin Clark yea honestly I’ve read the book twice every thing in it is horrible and should never be replicated so just because people focus on the kid sex is because people believe that’s the worst that happens In the book it’s an opinion mate. Get over it
@@sonic1on2wiiu No. Not at fucking all the "scene" in the book isnt seen as good. Its shown as the kids doing something they dont fully understand. So yeah not seen as a good thing. its seen as something dark and humiliating
@Melissa Waterman look its really fucking werid and this is coming from a big fan of the novel but (and i know its gonna sound werid but fuck it) it isnt as detailed or as long as some people make it out to be. It would be a outrage like what happened to cuties Netflix was on a sue case... Cause it would be disturbing for the kids actors and the audience Yuck.
I'm kinda glad they omitted the kiddie porn. As much as I loved all my childhood pals, I don't think 12 year old me ever wanted to get down and dirty in the name of friendship, or whatever it is that scene is meant to establish
Gio it's crazy weird, no doubt. The reason Beverly does it is because "It" is already making them all forget about the entire thing and how they joined together to hurt "It". If they forget then they can't defeat it permanently in 27 years when "It" is healed and comes back to kill them and get "It's" revenge. Bev knows the only way to defeat "it" is by banding together and that love will do that. Everyone remembers the first time they had sex, and bev knows that by sharing this with the losers club that will be something that they will always remember. Therefore giving the losers club the chance to remember and have a chance to recall the strength of bonding together and how to kill it once and for all. The whole book is basically written from a child's point of view. Therefore, things that are off as an adult would make perfect sense to a child. There is a line in the book that basically says "1000 men will think up vampires and how dangerous they are, but one (most likely a child) is the one that will create the stake to kill it." That pretty much sums up the whole book. It's about childhood innocence, and how differently we think about things as adults. We lose that innocence and imagination and trade it in for politics and capitalism. I think it's one of the best books ever written and should be taught in schools.
Freshest woomy I just explained. Everyone remembers the first time they had sex. It's one of those things that no matter how old you get that first time having sex is something you will always remember. Therefore cementing the day they hurt penny wise forever in there mind no matter how hard pennywise tries to make them forget.
You forgot to mention that in the book, pennywise was basically a female and that Ben had to squash the eggs with nothing but his foot, or even the death of Eddie kasbarak.

Curry's performance is so amazing in the 1990 version. He manages to take what is a typical, non-scary, children's party clown look and make it terrifying and iconic to this day.

Uncle Squiddz In theory, it is possible. Even so, they'll probably wait until the movie can be legally purchased so that they can use clips from the movie. The new movie was leagues better than the miniseries. The only reason you still like the miniseries is because of nostalgia. And as for Tim Curry, while he performed well on the funny aspect of Pennywise, he completely failed on the scary aspects, while the new Pennywise actor did well on both.
The sex scene isn't a metaphor. It's 6 11 year-olds running a train on a 11 year-old girl. Honestly I think King penned that up just to fuck with people.

They just sound similar enough we didn't notice the switch as they only do a what's the difference every month or so. might be wrong, but the second guy also says your newest Droog on the A Clockwork Orange video. Which makes it seem like he's new, but they could just be talking funny for the video.
Wait I love the scene when Ben and Mike ride around on the silver bullet. I couldn't get that Temptations song out of my head. It played the whole time I watched the new It lol
Yes, it was a great scene, and endeared us and helped us relate to the CHARACTERS. That's what makes King's stories and adaptations so enjoyable - they place an emphasis on the characters and character development. Thus the horror aspect works because we have grown to care about these characters and don't want to see ill befall them. Contrast this with a typical horror/torture porn movie in which the characters are just recycled cardboard cutouts whose sole purpose is slaughter-fodder.
You didn't mention how the times were changed from 1958 and 1985 in the book to 1960 and 1990, and It appears every 30 years instead of every 27. Also, Stan did NOT brutally chop himself up into pieces I am currently reading the book right now and it clearly says he slits his wrists.. it's more graphic in the book with him making "T" shaped cuts down his arms, but I have no idea where you got that he chopped himself into pieces..
I never considered the child orgy part of the book. When i got to that part, it took me out of the story and confused me as to why it was there. It doesn't fit with the rest of the book or the characters. I don't think 11 year old kids would do that and it really doesn't make a difference to the story if you cut it out. Pretty sure stephen king is a weirdo and added it just cuz.
@ Blazing Arrows and lakamokolaka You are so closed minded that you can't see past the point of Bev having sex with each boy which was them leaving their childhood behind so they could consider themselves as adults therefore escaping Pennywise. You must have never heard mothers talk about fast or hot in the ass girls thinking they grown because they have had sex. During the era of this story 50's( my grandmother's time) preteens smoked cigarettes, drank beer and liquor(adults gave them a sip or two aww it ain't going to hurt them) my nana learned to drive at 10 years old. All those things were fine for that era. My great - grandma had her first child at 13 (she was pregnant at 12) and was married at 14 and my great - granddaddy was 15. It was and still is legal in some states if the girl is pregnant. I'm sure if most of you checked out your family history you would be shocked too.
While I do defend the choice of omitting the sex scene from the T.V. series, I could see the merit of it in the book. If you focus a bit less on the literal "Eww, kids having sex" and more on the symbolism and literal functionality described by Bernadette, it kind of starts to make sense.
in both cases im most annyoed by the fact both TV versions focus on nothign but the Clown version of "IT" and make it look like Pennywise is the name and main form of the creature, which it isnt. leaving out the most scary part: "it" is what you are most afraid of, werewolve, Zombie, Clown, abusive people. etc.
@@sgillman16 It part 1 and Part 2, or if you dont accept 2 parts as individual movies: It, the Old movie and the modern movie. either way the statement stands.
uhm yes it was and well that was my opinion, and most people might agree with me, atleast the ones who's rated both the new and old mini tv-series on imdb and rotten tomatoes. So piss off
I went from "oh God their going to mess up a classic" to thinking it was as good if not better than the first one. They preserved that classic king style and terror well. And I swear, I felt some "Stand By Me" in it. That was the first movie I have been to in AGES where it was a packed house and it got applause at the end.
I felt the kids were closer friends in the 1st movie vs the new movie, the scares were a bit better in the second one, and I liked Eddie saying "this is battery acid" in the 1st. Overall, I think the original is my fav, but the remake is pretty good
Saw the new movie last night and I think it did a much better job with the adaption. It added characters from the book that deserved screen time like Patrick Hockstetter (water down version tho) and the leper. (SPOILER) There is no giant spider at the end of the new movie, but I'm curious if they'll use it in Chapter Two, because another clown fight seems redundant, but pulling off a inter dimensional god who's form can only be comprehended as a giant spider is hard. Really hope they end up giving Pennywise his own unique origin story.
Origin story for monsters is usually a bad thing. You want some vague detail, but going deep into a backstory often ruins the horror aspect of a villain. Look how they fucked over Darth Vader.
Umm yes? What in my comment made it seem like I didn't think or was surprised that it was going to be 2 parts? If you're talking about the fact that I said there was no giant spider, in the BOOK that you didn't read the children and adults encounter IT's true form.
Some origin stories are bad, and they also can be good while adding depth to a character. Stephen King's book detailed It's true origin, and was able to masterfully present a being who was beyond human comprehension. The 1990 film left out all of the details and at the end of the movie just dropped a giant alien spider on everyone. Origin stories can be good if done masterfully and with deliberate intention, and not as some half ass thought they felt they need to put in there.
The miniseries felt like it was supposed to be a really long goosebumps episode or something even if the movies weren't perfect, I'm so grateful to have them
I just read the novel in my 33rd year for the very first time. Something i started a few times before but never fully completed up until now. Sort of like The Losers Club. It took them until their adulthood to defeat their demon, just as it took me until now to finish this book. I must say, it was a great journey.
So although the actual explanation was well done, there are a few structural issues with this video. The parts where you showed the montages from the mini series felt to me like an excuse to just fill time in the video, it was unneeded and detracted from your point more than supported it. My other issue was with the stupid steven kings face on a stabbing man accompanied by the maniacal cackling. That was really annoying and during one part of the video I actually could not hear the dialogue over the royalty free maniacal laughter. Other than that, good video.
My biggest problem with the miniseries is how it basically ruined Richie's character. In both, he's a funny smartass, but he's so brave and loyal in the book. In the miniseries, he's pretty much a downer when they're adults.
I didn't read the book but I saw It twice now. Based on this, the movie looks like it was faithful to the book with the omission of the sex scenes thank god
I really like how the newest one got a lot of those details right... I'm also glad that they toned down the uh... Promiscuous stuff in favor of a more down to earth story focused on children. I'm so excited for part two!
Best way to start Part 2: EVERYTHING dealing with the macrocerse, including the sea turtle. By the way, I am not joking. I genuinely think that this would be a great way to begin the film if done right.
I'm not one of those people who always whine whenever anything changes in a video format but not going to lie: the female speaker definitely doesn't have the voice for narration.
Postman Pat I don't mind her at all, but I do think the difference in audio quality (probably due to both using different recording hardware/software) is slightly jarring
the reason why the mini-series didn't include all of that stuff is because it was a mini-series aired in the TV, Kids at any age can be watching this so the mini-series ended up with less creepy things. (except for Pennywise)
I remember reading the kiddie orgy when I was only a couple of years older than the characters themselves and being thoroughly grossed out. You'd think it'd be the child butchering killer clown/spider that disturbed me but nope - the idea that a 12-year-old orchestrated a train as a bonding moment was way more shudder-inducing. Make of that what you will. Very glad they left that part out of both adaptations.

It's descriptive not literal. Saying someone chopped themself up is just a hyperbole of they hurt themselves really badly, it's like hacked or sliced.
Plus its a subtle thing called SUSPENSE
Two books this is apparent in, is The Shining .. the movie was a disgrace ... and Insomnia.
@@AdariousMistdancerwhich shining movie. If you mean the Kubrick one, the door is to your left, you can see yourself out.
Eveline Chen thank you! After they said that I pretty much discounted the rest of the video because they clearly didn’t actually read the book
I think they were getting at the fact that it was the first scene of the movie when the first chapter of the book is of Georgie
I'm not sure they read the whole book.
excuse me if i’m wrong, (i’m currently reading the book), but this is why Stanley commuted suicide right?
excuse me if i’m wrong, (i’m currently reading the book), but this is why Stanley commited suicide right?
I think a lot of people really misunderstand the moments of levity found in the mini-series. I think they are very effective at showing how "It" is always present and how he can come at you at anytime. How he can take away what small moments of happiness you can find. It gives a real sense of dread as every time you let your guard down, he's there to punish you for it. I get the story was overall toned down for public audiences, I understand that, but I don't think people give the mini-series as much credit as it deserves.
This comment section:
1.-Complaints about the kids orgy
2.-Complaints about the female narrator in the video
Tobin Clark yea honestly I’ve read the book twice every thing in it is horrible and should never be replicated so just because people focus on the kid sex is because people believe that’s the worst that happens In the book it’s an opinion mate. Get over it
Not Interesting drugs are one hella of a drug
@@sonic1on2wiiu Exactly. Exactly.
@@sonic1on2wiiu No. Not at fucking all the "scene" in the book isnt seen as good. Its shown as the kids doing something they dont fully understand. Bev tries to connect them through love and she believes that is the only to do it. She also believes that then she then understands what it means when she still dosent. So yeah not seen as a good thing. its seen as something dark and humiliating
@Melissa Waterman look its really fucking werid and this is coming from a big fan of the novel but (and i know its gonna sound werid but fuck it) it isnt as detailed or as long as some people make it out to be. Dont get me wrong its still fucking uncomfortable but it dosent ruin the overall experience of a fantastic book that introduced us to one of the most recognizable horror villains in recent memory
The line where adult Bev says that she fell in love with all of them that summer makes a lot more sense now.
Turns out she always was a h03 lol
It was my favorite King novel, but I totally forgot about the sewer sex scene, seems like it would have stuck out.
It would be a outrage like what happened to cuties Netflix was on a sue case...
Cause it would be disturbing for the kids actors and the audience
Yuck.
I'm kinda glad they omitted the kiddie porn. As much as I loved all my childhood pals, I don't think 12 year old me ever wanted to get down and dirty in the name of friendship, or whatever it is that scene is meant to establish
😂
There is a line in the book that basically says "1000 men will think up vampires and how dangerous they are, but one (most likely a child) is the one that will create the stake to kill it."
That pretty much sums up the whole book. It's about childhood innocence, and how differently we think about things as adults. We lose that innocence and imagination and trade it in for politics and capitalism.
I think it's one of the best books ever written and should be taught in schools.
Zod Meowzers III but why sex
Gio, I assure you that your male friends were quite interested in that type of bonding with you.
Pennywise is genderless... It's an alien... Not really a male or a female since that's an earth thing and more a mammal thing.
@@nikkiesweet7939 No. In the book IT is a female.
@@pavlegalic5063 No. In the book, which I've read multiple times, Pennywise is an alien... Unless you're just ignoring that and calling it a female simply based on the fact that it lays eggs.
@@nikkiesweet7939 To be fair, I just finished the book, like an hour ago, and the losers do call It a female. Multiple times, but I think you're right on the fact that it's because It lays eggs. I think it's meant for the losers to have a psychological coping mechanism with It.
@@nikkiesweet7939 I just read the book too and it really goes out of its way to make sure you get that pennywise is female. First through pennywise's own POV.

It's sad that so many people take King at face value. The beauty of his work is that it is mostly about human conflict. Either between people or internally.
sjbrooksy45 yeah they're too focused on the evil clown but the humanity of the kids turning into adults is what made it wholesome
MystikalScope Productions I don't know about wholesome, but I do think the clown represents more than childish fears.
i mean yes! King wasted ENDLESS nights writing this book and it's unacceptable for people not apprieciate (sorry i don't know how to spell that) his work. Not even the friendly book writters can write as good as Stephen! He will be my favourite book writer forever!
+Ibrahim Nedzhmi I love Stephen king too butt I think 12 yo children doing it each other was a little bit too much if they were adults it would be fine but children ...I still love his work tho
sjbrooksy45 As much as I love King, the detailed 12 year old orgy was a little... Detailed. I understand it was to show they matured but there's something that feels a bit gross about an old man describing underage kids smashing.

Could you do What's the Difference on the new It movie?
Uncle Squiddz In theory, it is possible. Even so, they'll probably wait until the movie can be legally purchased so that they can use clips from the movie. Nobody wants to listen to somebody talk for 15 minutes about something with no visuals to assist the understanding. Ever done computer based learning for a job? That's basically what it would be like.
RageCreator 2996 true

I think maybe they'll do it after the second part is out, so that it's complete
The new movie was leagues better than the miniseries. The only reason you still like the miniseries is because of nostalgia. And as for Tim Curry, while he performed well on the funny aspect of Pennywise, he completely failed on the scary aspects, while the new Pennywise actor did well on both.
The sex scene isn't a metaphor. It's 6 11 year-olds running a train on a 11 year-old girl. Honestly I think King penned that up just to fuck with people.

You are so closed minded that you can't see past the point of Bev having sex with each boy which was them leaving their childhood behind so they could consider themselves as adults therefore escaping Pennywise.
Its just weird to follow the characters, grow close to them, get into the story and suddenly have a group of 5th graders gang fucking an 11 year old.
While I do defend the choice of omitting the sex scene from the T.V. series, I could see the merit of it in the book. If you focus a bit less on the literal "Eww, kids having sex" and more on the symbolism and literal functionality described by Bernadette, it kind of starts to make sense.
You should do one for _Misery_ .

👍 correct
I wish there was a bit more about the bullies tho. But still great vid!
When I have kids I’m going to tell them only adults can read this book because a child eating monster lives in it. I wouldn’t be lying
