Personally for me, slasher flicks have never ever given me a bad night. I just find them entertaining to watch. They have never scared me. But supernatural horror? That shit fucks me up. Even though I'm more likely to be a victim of a real life slasher than a supernatural monster.

Technically, Pennywise was not defeated. Fun fact, if you read the "Dreamcatcher" novel, it is revealed that Pennywise survived. While driving through Derry, Jonesy spots a sign that says "Pennywise lives" and even catches a glimpse of the clown peeking out from a storm drain.

I thought the way to actually wound him was to believe it was possible? I.e. in the miniseries, eddie sprays his inhaler at It, saying that it was battery acid (when it was really a placebo of water and cough meds) and in the current movie, the boltgun that Bill shoots at It is actually empty. But he doesn't know that, so he fully believes its loaded and thus It reacts as though it was.
Seems more of a scare tactic to me, give the kid a false hope before coming back and making the kid even more scared knowing it didn't work/called his bluff.
The movies are wrong, the only way to defeat It is by the Ritual of Chüd, which is not mentioned at all in both films

I don't think that IT takes the weaknesses of something that it turns into (as you mentioned - werewolf). Silver slugs hurt IT because children BELIEVED they would ("knowledge" they picked up from the movie). Same goes for the "battery acid" from the book and mini series.

Looking through the comments, it looks like not many people have read both IT and the dark tower series. IT is one of the followers of the crimson king, actively trying to help topple the beam. If you haven't read the books, that won't make sense. Also, yes, IT is female. That's canon. The books are amazing. They might take some time to get through, but it's definitely worth it. As a last note, getting some of your information and quoting Wikipedia directly won't be as accurate as reading the books. Maybe try to not make direct quotes next time?

I don't see how pointing out the source material for a topic can be seen as being smug. And anyone can edit Wikipedia so that's not a valid source unless it was edited by Stephen King himself. But if you read the book and cross reference the information, you'll see that it is highly unlikely that Stephen himself wrote the wiki article, considering it is incorrect. I'm not being prideful. I'm simply pointing out what years in the schooling system showed me was basic research etiquette. Using the source material as the primary source.

From my understanding IT landed in prehistoric times, but remained dormant (slept, millions of years basically) till around 1700s.. He awoke and started feeding every 27 years after that.
He probably remains dormant because he had no food source, and once it became available (people started living in the area).. He awoke and fed. He would probably go back to long term dormancy if there where no inhabitants any more to feed off of.
