Yes.....unfortunately he passed away and the people at the end were there to show their love for him and his music. He definitely has the most beautiful voice for just his voice and a ukulele
Fun fact.....IZ walked into the studio, asked if he could record this song. And THIS is the result of the "1st" and only take he did. The man was a LEGEND!

I was in the Marines stationed in Hawaii when Iz passed away. The whole place shut down for his memorial service and burial at sea. It was a beautiful day.
@@patticriss2238 the difference between Elvis and IZ is that IZ was almost completely pure. And is still looked as the peace of Hawaii. At this point with his passing he was the only person to have the Hawaiian flag flown at half mast at the capital that wasn't a government official. Over 10k people made it to his funeral and his spreading to the sea. Elvis may be remembered more regularly by the rest of the world. But nothing beats the love the Hawaiians and others feel for bruddah IZ.
I am 3/4 Native Hawaiian, 1/4 Japanese American as a kid I was ashamed. Today at 64 I'm 100% proud. Iz was and always will be Hawaii's gift to the world.
Braddah Iz passed way too soon. And yet, even after all these years, his music is still impacting lives in these current times. He will always be the GOAT to me.
I thought as soon as you said, "his angelic is angelic" I thought to myself it still is, we can only hear his recordings now, but I'm sure all the souls on the other side of the rainbow are please to play with him or hear him.
His last name is pronounced "ka-maka-vee-vo-'olay" and yes, he was an extremely gifted man! A legend in the islands and he still has fans world-wide. I frequently went to his performances and I always left in such awe of his talent. Bruddah Iz was very special but thankfully, his music lives on. I could listen to this song over, and over, and over...and I often do.
People in Hawai'i use this song for so many different occasions: weddings, funerals, parties, graduations... it just connects with your heart. and he was a local boy.
The way they did it was a royal farewell with more than 10,000 attending and flags at half mast. This man is sadly missed. And we're the poorer for the music we will never get.
It took me YEARS to be able to listen to this song again. This was my dad's absolute favorite song and we played it at his funeral. I'm glad I got around to being able to hear it again.
This man is a legend in Hawaii. I grew up listening to him and always brings memories or my grandmother. It brings a tear to my eyes. I love Braddah Iz. Just pop his album to listen when you want to relax and chill.
He did another great version which was a mashup of "Somewhere over the rainbow" and "What a wonderful world". If you loved this you should check that one out as well.

This song saved my life while going through the roughest time in my life I found this in the movie finding Forrester bought the CD. Listened to on loop for nights on end and recognized that there is still beautiful things to discover in life. A shining jewel of a gift.
I had a Hawaiian Uncle from a small village on Maui (married to mom’s sister) who, with his siblings, would play ukulele and my Uncle had the high falsetto voice. I miss those times. 😢❤ THIS IS HIS FUNERAL AT THE END.

Braddah IZ passed in the mid 90’s at age 36 (I believe). I was stationed in Colorado and heard of the news from a white dude from Oklahoma that worked at the Ski Lift I was about to get on. That’s how much his music transcended cultures. One time after his death when I flew home on leave from Europe, I was on the final leg toward Hawaii . I slept through the movie called Finding Forrester. I immediately awakened when I heard this song playing at the end credits which I didn’t know he was on. I am not sure if he was the first Hawaiian dude with a song on a major motion film but it was a big deal nonetheless at the time. I heard IZ singing this several years ago. I ordered his CD that day. There’s just something special about him singing Over The Rainbow. We’ve all heard it all our lives but this was just different. I never heard of him before I heard this song.
you should try listening to Makaha Sons. Braddah Iz was originally part of that group. There's some of their old stuff where Braddah Iz is talking story with the audience, which gives people an idea of the kind of person he was. He was funny and down to earth. He struggled with his weight- he reluctantly took those pictures you see and he actually passed right before he was scheduled for bypass surgery. he had a wife and daughter too.
Oh I'm sure everybody's told you by now but yeah he has at least two CDs because I have both of them he was amazing he was a beautiful man with a beautiful soul and a voice that match I guess now he's up there singing with angels like you should have been in the first place ! This song and his voice never ever doesn't make me cry but in a good way and I want this played at my funeral because I would love to meet him up there I hope he's there waiting
I tell everybody, that beautiful day in Makua, being on the Hokulea , you had to be in the water looking towards Makua Valley the entire beach from one end to the other was completely packed with people 🤙🏾
Three versions of "Rainbow' that I love: this one by Iz, the original by Judy Garland and Eva Cassidy's live performance from Blues Alley. Best song ever.
He’s obviously one beautiful soul that was born and meant to do this song and make us all smile and reflect and put his own emotional interpretation to such a classic song. What a way to make it your own. I thank him for that voice every time I hear it. It’s also my favorite escape song. When down. His version is so great but I can’t watch the video as beautiful as it is and simple. The end gets me sad every time yet happy knowing this man was so loved and honoured and celebrated. He’s forever one with the place and people he loved.
IZ's voice is so beautiful with this song I tear up every time I hear it. He hits that special note in his voice that just rips the emotion out of me whether I like it or not. The first time I heard it was in the film 50 First Dates and I immediately fell in love with it. My favourite of this is his mash up of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and It's a Wonderful World which I HAD hoped this was going to be. Also his story is heartbreaking.
I played this song for my daughter while she was still in the womb and while she had her stay in the nicu. She’s four now and a few months ago I played it for her and told her how we played it for her in her mothers belly and her reaction was to run over and love on her momma. This song will forever be in my heart. I’m glad you finally got to hear this one. Best rendition of over the rainbow ever.
I've watched a lot of your videos. I'm a music junkie and listen to literally every type of music that I can. Never thought I'd see you do a video about this song. This is an amazing song, have not seen your review yet, but I'm glad I get to in a moment
@Kp O'Donnell your comment brought me to tears. my aunt introduced me to eva cassidy back in the late 80's. she was all smiles when recalling having seen eva play live. and as Hawaiians, we of course, already had a love for Iz and so many other Hawaiian musicians/singers. sadly, this beautiful woman whom i adored immensely and was so fortunate to share roots (among many other things) with lost her battle with cancer. and although i weep upon seeing your comment, i also smile as i imagine her now singing with those 2 legends and a great big grin on her face.
Every once in awhile a person is able to transport you to another world just through the power of their voice. Izzy was one of those people. He was taken way too soon. We lost a great gift when he left this world. It makes you cherish what he left behind all the more. I do believe I will never find a more gentle rendition of this song if I live to be 1000. He also did "What a Wonderful World" . . . It's like a warm all encompassing hug. I only wish he left more recordings behind.
IZ is an inspiration and was loved by all. I was at Makua when they spread his ashes from the Hokule'a. Cars stopped along the 2 lane road leading to Ka'ena bringing traffic to a stand-still. Hundreds of people were wading in the water and hundreds more were on land. A procession of big rigs blew and held their horns echoing through the valley while his ashes were placed into the ocean making it sound as if the State of Hawaii was crying . . . it's a moment I will never forget. An incredible celebration of life for an incredible man!!
Iz was on a whole different level of talent. I remember seeing him live at The Shell in Waikiki when he was with Makaha Sons.... It was a great time for contemporary Hawaiian music.
With all due respect - and I love your reactions - I think that the best, most emotional version of this song is the cover by Eva Cassidy at Blues Alley back in 1996. Just her and the guitar. She has such a beautiful voice and brings me to the edge of tears every time. The way her phrasing is, as well as the counterpoint between her and her guitar is just stunning. If you haven’t listened, please do. You’ll be in for a treat.
I first heard IZ’s “Over The Rainbow,” as part of movie soundtracks. I think it was the movie Finding Forrester that I first hear him. I had to know who he was and starting researching. What a wonderfully beautiful human being he was, with the voice of an angel. Please listen to his version of What A Wonderful World. Also, research the man he was, you’ll love his voice even more.
just like James Hong, who's been in countless movies, Braddah Iz's "Over the Rainbow" has been played in many movies. I think it's fascinating and it gives me a bit of joy when hearing it pop up in a movie. It's like I can hear him saying, "eh howzit?" to anyone tuning in. Definitely an unforgettable human being
As someone that is hawaiian and was born and raised in Hawaii I can say that Bruddah Iz is an ICON. Also it's really cool seeing different people react to a taste of the culture that I grew up with. Thanks for the great video
This wonderful track has never ever failed to bring tears to my eyes. So pure and sweet and beautiful. I've heard it at many weddings and funerals and I think it's appropriate for both. So much beauty in the world.
Today is a huge day for me and my family, this song couldn't have popped up on a better day. Thank you for the videos and passing the time for me in this difficult portion of my life
In This Life is a must listen. Beautiful song with a great message. Was one of my wedding dances. Also White Sandy Beach of Hawaii and Take Me Home Country Road are great.
26 years ago I went on my very first holiday, I went to Hawaii, O’ahu. I did not go on any of the “tours“ I rented a car and went wherever my heartfelt to go, I found myself in a very small enclave where it was very, shall we say local, and there was music playing and people dancing freely with their babies, old I and young alike. I parked the car and walked my old bones over and was met by a wave of engulfing love that was thick in the air, and there sat in the middle of a crowd of beautiful spirits, lol was this gigantic soft spirited singer playing a ukulele as he was sitting on a stool with a beautiful smile singing local music that was the first and only time that I got to meet,, eat and enjoy my time with IZ and this beautiful community. When I had heard he died just a few years later my heart was so broken. I was so startled later when I was watching the movie starring Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins called “meet Joe Black.“ To here IZ Singing this song, it brought joy but tears as well. Great movie a remake of “death takes a holiday.” I almost didn’t click this video because it’s still aches to know he is no longer here. But then I reminded myself that he is here through his music. Thank you @MrLBoyd
I first heard IZ sing this song a the end of a movie "Finding Forrester" with Sean Connery. I was enthralled - what a great version of Louis Armstrong's classic. This version by IZ can NEVER be topped - that's how good it is!
It's a strange thing, to grieve someone only a few moments after learning of their existence. I've only felt it a couple times, definitely did not know what to do with the emotion when it happened. Iz had a beautiful voice.
And that's exactly what was going on in this video. Honestly kinda made me sad seeing the emotion on his face and actions that he didn't expect to be slapped with.
I'm born & raised in Hawaii, and part Hawaiian. I grew up with Bradah Iz's music. His style of chosen music have influenced many local artist to do contemporary. I remember his viewing at the State Capital. The line was so very long. The loss of him still resonates with me, and all of us who grew up during his time on earth. Thank you for listening to his - and in essence, our - voice. I love how he reach people after his passing, and to people all over the world. He will be remembered - ALWAYS.
All of his music is worth listening too. An absolute legend to Hawai’i . One of the biggest Artis to come out of Hawai’i . I would love to watch you listen to more of his and other Hawaiian music❤️

I tell everybody, that beautiful day in Makua, being on the Hokulea , you had to be in the water looking towards Makua Valley the entire beach from one end to the other was completely packed with people 🤙🏾
IZ lived near where most of my family is in Hawaii. He was a beautiful soul! I miss you baby.
Three versions of "Rainbow' that I love: this one by Iz, the original by Judy Garland and Eva Cassidy's live performance from Blues Alley. Best song ever.
We miss you Mr. IZzy. R.I.P. dear man.
He also did the best cover of Louis Armstrong's - "What a Wonderful World"
He’s obviously one beautiful soul that was born and meant to do this song and make us all smile and reflect and put his own emotional interpretation to such a classic song.
This was the first song I heard just after scattering my mother's ashes. Still hard to listen to, but well appreciated.
That’s pretty amazing, so sorry for your loss of your mother❤️
IZ was amazing. Everything that he did is incredible.
I've loved this version of the song since I first heard it in the movie 50 first dates. RIP IZ
I wish he could have seen how much the world loved his version of the song.
He is a legend. Hawaii loves him an he deserves it.
RIP big man ❤️
A unique angelic voice🏆❤️🥰😘he's a legend!
He was absolutely loved by his peers and agree to him having an angelic voice.
Two other songs to check out from IZ are Hawaii '78 and Maui Hawaiian Sup'pa Man.
This is the best song to me because no other song moves my soul like this. RIP Bruddah IZ. 💞💛💙💛💜💫
This has been my favorite rendition as well! I get a little teary eyed when listening to it. He was an amazing talent. ☮️
Love his rendition. Been listening to it for over 20 years.💖 Best ever!!!!🥰🤩😍
I've watched a lot of your videos. I'm a music junkie and listen to literally every type of music that I can. Never thought I'd see you do a video about this song. This is an amazing song, have not seen your review yet, but I'm glad I get to in a moment
Eva Cassidy, another unearthly talent lost too soon, also did an amazing rendition. Beautiful vocals coupled with incredible acoustic guitar.
Enthusiastic second on Eva Cassidy. Heartbreaking but gorgeous music.
Though this song has been sung by many,my favorites are done by IZ & Eva Cassidy. They each make it they own.
IZ was magic personified!
The most beautiful of people with the most beautiful of voices had the most beautiful funeral I've ever seen.
Played this song constantly when my kids were little, they loved this version.
You nailed it, he was an amazing person.
This might be the most beautiful song ever recorded.
Yeah this is probably my favorite version of the song.
Iz was on a whole different level of talent. I remember seeing him live at The Shell in Waikiki when he was with Makaha Sons.... It was a great time for contemporary Hawaiian music.
That was da good days !!🤙🏾🤙🏾
Definitely an unforgettable human being
First time I heard this song was on Coast to Coast AM (as a filler song) and have loved it ever since! :)
I adore this rendition of a true classic.

Thank you for the videos and passing the time for me in this difficult portion of my life
You would have to have a heart of stone for this to not move you to tears his BEAUTIFUL SOUL AND VOICE
In This Life is a must listen. Beautiful song with a great message. Was one of my wedding dances. Also White Sandy Beach of Hawaii and Take Me Home Country Road are great.
Lots of people have described Iz’s voice as “angelic”. Glad you had the same reaction. A treasure lost too soon.
Brings me to tears every time, just such a beautiful song
This man has angelic voice it's just a fact. It's a gift to hear him.
This is indeed so special! ❤️
This was played at the funeral of a lifelong friend. It's an excellent version, maybe the best.
I first heard IZ sing this song a the end of a movie "Finding Forrester" with Sean Connery. I was enthralled - what a great version of Louis Armstrong's classic. This version by IZ can NEVER be topped - that's how good it is!
This version is incredible RIP 🪦
His "What a wonderful world" is out of this world.
This is on the shortlist of songs I’m unable to listen to without tearing up a bit.
All of his music is worth listening too. An absolute legend to Hawai’i . One of the biggest Artis to come out of Hawai’i . I would love to watch you listen to more of his and other Hawaiian music❤️
Agreed, this is a terrific version of the song. You might also look into Eva Cassidy's version. She's a rabbit hole worth exploring.
