I wouldn't characterize the ending as Sad at all. - - To the contrary, that was an amazing celebration and tribute to a man's life who obviously had a profound impact on those around him. - - May we all be so blessed to have a send off like that.
It was a tribute to brudda Iz, the proverbial gentle giant, and musical genius with his cover of "Over the Rainbow". He is a Hawaiian and national treasure. His "White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i" is one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard.
Iz called the key keeper of the music studio in the middle of the night and said he had something to record...they guy opened toe studio at 3 am, turned on the mics and Iz sang this song once...the rest is history...and yes that was footage of his funeral...
IZ embodies Hawaii, the friendliness of it's people, the beauty of the islands, the laid back lifestyle. If you go to a quiet beach there and stand there with your eyes closed you will hear the ocean, feel the breeze and the sun, and you will have this song singing in your heart!! IZ lives!!
This was a tribute to him and yes this was his version of Judy Garlands song Somewhere Over The Rainbow. This vid is so moving in brings tears to my eyes. He was said to have had such a gentle soul. A beautiful voice gone to soon.
That is the song from Wizard of Oz. IZ does such a beautiful job on it. Another reactor said it should be played at all government meetings around the world and there would be no more wars. ❤
Yeah, def. And, the leaders should also be forced to go up on a space tourist ship to see the whole earth,a dn then then would see how united and one it all is. :) Right?
There are only a few songs that literally make me tear up every time I watch them on video. This beautiful rendition/tribute by IZ to "Over The Rainbow" (the song is on the soundtrack of many films and TV shows, btw) as well as Elvis's 1977 performance of "Unchained Melody", weeks before he died, come to mind.❤
This will happen a lot as your musical knowledge grows. You'll get to know someone, love them, then have to grieve that they are gone now. But it's worth it for the beauty of the songs.
Sweet reaction Britt. Iz was a wonderful Christian man from the island. This song is his version of the Judy Garland song. He also did his version of it's a "It's a Wonderful Life" and also infused the 2 songs together too sometimes when he sang them. God blessed him and his family and his songs. He was well loved on the island and around the world and still is. It was a sad but happy celebration when they did his ashes just as he asked. God bless you too and your family. 🙏❤
So, so beautiful. I love the voice, the ukulele is perfect, and the laid-back relaxed feel that Iz gives to the song makes me want to spend the rest of my life on a beach in the South Pacific.
IZ's Somewhere Over the Rainbow is one of the greatest songs ever..timeless. Beautiful. Don't need to be Hawaiian to love it, you only need to be human. I'm Asian and I love it. ♥♥♥
'Eo Bradda Iz...REST IN ALOHA! Mahalo for this reaction...love your channel. I am Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian), so I mahalo all the reactions videos from our native Hawaiian icons.
My family and I were blessed to live in Hawaii for three years, and Brudda IZ passed away during the time we lived there. Even though we were "haoles," (white people, and to many Hawaiians, the same as "dumb haoles") we found the majority of Hawaiians to be very friendly and hospitable. However, we wouldn't allow our very white, very blonde daughter to attend public school as a 7th grader as it was almost assured she'd be physically assaulted on a regular basis, so home-schooled her for her own safety. Hawaii is a paradise, and everyone should have visiting Hawaii on their "bucket" list. Hawaiian culture is amazing. I'll never forget a church service I attended where a native Hawaiian said the true meaning of Aloha is to give, and to give, until you have nothing left, and then to give some more. It's shameful what we (the USA) did as a nation to the Kingdom of Hawaii, very much in the same vein as what was done to the native Americans and native Alaskans. I believe we as a country have worked hard to make amends, and we should continue to do so. Sorry for the "lecture," but just a part of my education after living in Hawaii.
A classic song and a classic artist. RIP Iz. Thanks for your reactions. He does a mix of this song and 'What a Wonderful World', A Louis Armstrong cover.
Yes, it's his traditional Hawaiian memorial. My hubby took me to Hawaii for our 26th anniversary. Most amazing place ever. And yep, rainbows are real in this video. This is one of my happy songs. 😊
This song always makes me think of my mom, and it always makes me cry. Shes still alive, but it accesses some part of my brain from when i was a baby and she would sing to me.
This showed up in my feed I will NEVER scroll past this song ♡ he was a magical soul He woke up at like 2am called a recording studio one take and went home to sleep. ♡
Bruddah IZ is our Elvis, Beatles, Aretha. This video was made in a tribute to his life after he passed. This was his crossover into the more USA mainstream. My sister’s favorite song was White Sandy Beach and it was played at her funeral. I get goosebumps when I hear him sing so I get goosebumps daily. I tear up too.
My dad is a “native Hawaiian.” He is Hawaiian/Chinese, but he was born and raised in Hawaii. We grew up on this music. Even though he joined the military and moved to the mainland before I was born, he tried really hard to teach us his songs and culture. ❤ Unfortunately, by the time he retired from the military, he had seven kids. They didn’t want to relocate that many people back to Hawaii, so we stayed here on the mainland.
I too have kanaka maoli blood (along with a ton of other stuff!) and was bornnin raisednon Oahu)and my DH (haole) and I were in the Army. Our kids only spent a few years in Hawaiin(we were stationed there), but I tried my best to keep them in touch with our Hawaiian culture and the tradition I grew up with. Our kids loved Bruddah IZ and my son named his son "Kainoa" and my grandson loves having his very own song sung by this gentle giant.
The original version of this song was sung by Judy Garland in 1939. This was a cover done by Iz back in the 90's before he passed. It's probably one of the most iconic versions of this song ever recorded.
My husband and I honeymooned in Hawaii. I have almost a full roll of just rainbow pics. Almost a rainbow everyday, over the ocean, with the whales and dolphins swimming underneath. Breathtaking. RIP Brother IZ!
I'm surprised you didn't recognize Brudda Iz' version of "Over the Rainbow." It has been used many times in TV and movies. Iz was a beloved institution in Hawaii. From WikiPedia -- "On July 10, 1997, the Hawaiian flag flew at half-staff for Kamakawiwoʻole's funeral. His koa wood casket lay at the state capitol building in Honolulu, making him the third person (and the only non-government official) to be so honored. Approximately 10,000 people attended his funeral. Thousands of fans gathered as his ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean at Mākua Beach on July 12, 1997."
Yes it’s the same song. This is kind of like Iz’s take on “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”… the way Angelina sang “Bohemian Rhapsody “. They BOTH totally transformed their respective cover songs and their versions became ICONIC! I love your reaction channel Britt - I’m so glad I subscribed! ❤️
It's "sort of" the same song. Judy Garland sang Over the Rainbow in the Wizard of Oz in 1939. In the 1950s Louis Armstrong revived it combining it with the song What A Wonderful World. "IZ" then revived that combined song adding a Hawaiian flavor. It was used in several movies and TV shows before he passed away. This video is a tribute to him and to him singing this song, which became his signature sound
You haven't seen the Wizard of OZ? NO way! Judy Garland made the song famous and it became her signature song. Her performance is so beautiful. This version is redone in a different style. Still beautiful. IZ was such a great person... beautiful soul. Peace! Another performer that you should check out is Eva Cassidy. She performs this song and it is by far my favorite version.....Wait til you hear her voice! Peace!
I used to say that nobody should sing this but Judy Garland. Now I say nobody should sing this but Iz! Same thing for Wonderful World. I came to him, like you did, after his death but thank God he left us his glorious angel music . I love " chim-e-ney tops" too.
Bruddah Iz is singing his version on the Island he was born and raised. Lots of rainbows in Hawaii. He passed away at 36 from complications of obesity. And the last part at the ocean and they blow the horn is the burial of Iz. They celebrated his death. And yes same song as Judy sang i love her version but i love his more! Lots of people play this at funerals now.
It was Iz singing his own tribute song. And yes its the same song. You have to watch the Wizard of Oz. I watched it every year growing up in the 60's and 70's. It is a bit more of a children's show but since its such a classic you need to watch it at least once. Great review. I was waiting for you to realize he was singing his own tribute song. He was loved by so many! One of Hawaii's many treasures and whenever I go to Hawaii his song is always playing at least a few times in random places.
This man called a recording person in the middle of the night wanting to make this record. They did it in one try and everybody loved it. He passed away not long after but he sure gave us a gift! Yes, he sang it his own way! The end is his burial in the sea by his loyal friends!
This song makes me homesick. I’m a Lahaina girl, and have missed it every day since we moved. I watched Lahaina burn the last 2 days. I have friends missing, people lost their pets. Please donate to your local Red Cross.

I agree. Not sad at all when you move on to the next stage if you did what you could in the previous one. Peace, Love!!
I agree!
They are celebrating his life by surfing, sailing, dancing, eating, and listening to music🔥🤙🏼
It's sad
Imagine having that many people there to celebrate you. What a testament to his impact.
Iz is everywhere in Hawaii
That’s a traditional burial and everyone splashing
Remember
Don’t cry because it’s over-
Smile because it was

Makes me cry every time. It's a really special piece of music.
Agree 💯 😢😢😢💔 sad he's gone from us!! 😭
In another reaction video, the woman was already tearing up just at the “oooh” part.
I agree 💯
It sounded like a tribute to Hawaii. R.I.P. GENTLE SOUL
GODS HOT U BY HIS SIDE MY BROTHER
Yeah, me too... happy/sad... will be playing at my passing
Iz called the key keeper of the music studio in the middle of the night and said he had something to record...they guy opened toe studio at 3 am, turned on the mics and Iz sang this song once...the rest is history...and yes that was footage of his funeral...
Oh yeah he was a talented singer on of Hawaii's legend in our heart ALOHA FROM HAWAII 🤙🤙🤙

That is the song from Wizard of Oz. IZ does such a beautiful job on it. Another reactor said it should be played at all government meetings around the world and there would be no more wars. ❤
Lol never gonna happen.
@@loyal7597 You are right. People just like killing each other.
Yeah, def. And, the leaders should also be forced to go up on a space tourist ship to see the whole earth,a dn then then would see how united and one it all is. :) Right?
Amazing artist....Amazing song...Amazing man. A horrible loss still makes me sad. RIP IZ
Love IZs version of this song. Loves his medley even more of this song SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW and WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD.
Probably One of the Most Iconic and Angelic Voices you'll EVER Hear!!! 😭💔 God Rest his Soul!! 😭😭 He's Sorely Missed!! 😟😟😟💔
This is just so beautiful to me, I like it more than original version thanks to the voice of this amazing man. RIP IZ

IZ made this HIS song IMO. He touched so many hearts and left like all the epic greats- too soon.
An artist I learned about my second trip to Hawaii is Keali'i Reichel. My favorites song of his is 'Wanting Memories"
I don't think anyone has ever or will ever do this song any better than IZ.
BEAUTIFUL!!!! The send off they had for him was SOOO WONDERFUL...RIP🙏😢
The most beautiful version of this song ever ❤️
I cry every single time I hear this, because it is beautiful perfection RIP Iz 🖤
This guys voice amazing. He was so happy. They all came out for his song
Sweet reaction Britt. Iz was a wonderful Christian man from the island. This song is his version of the Judy Garland song. I’m sure you know it’s wonderful world, not life.
The second song is "What a Wonderful World" famously sung by Louis Armstrong
So, so beautiful. I love the voice, the ukulele is perfect, and the laid-back relaxed feel that Iz gives to the song makes me want to spend the rest of my life on a beach in the South Pacific.
His last name is pronounced "ka-MA-ka-vee-voh O-lay". And he now lives somewhere, over the rainbow.
IZ's Somewhere Over the Rainbow is one of the greatest songs ever..timeless. Beautiful. Don't need to be Hawaiian to love it, you only need to be human. I'm Asian and I love it. ♥♥♥

A classic song and a classic artist. RIP Iz.

He does a mix of this song and 'What a Wonderful World', A Louis Armstrong cover.
THANK YOU...........this is the song that should be played by this Giant ( :) ) because it ties into so much more of his talent. Peace and Love
Definitely tear-making but not sad. Bruddah Iz was so special and brought such happiness to all! I can't hear this without crying!
RIP IZ He through his own flare into the song and killed it !!
Yes, it's his traditional Hawaiian memorial. My hubby took me to Hawaii for our 26th anniversary. Most amazing place ever. And yep, rainbows are real in this video. This is one of my happy songs. 😊
IZ was a beautiful singer and a beautiful soul. So sad that he passed at such a young age...
Iz had a magical voice in this song. Absolutely beautiful man.😊
This song always makes me think of my mom, and it always makes me cry. Shes still alive, but it accesses some part of my brain from when i was a baby and she would sing to me.
This is absolutely beautiful I remember seeing this about about Eight years ago The most beautifulest version of this song ever❤💛💙💚💜🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
such a great song, this is a "mashup" of 2 songs. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World" (famously sung by Louis Armstrong)
This showed up in my feed
I will NEVER scroll past this song ♡ he was a magical soul

Beautiful version. Beautiful voice.
Check out Eva Cassidy rendition also of this song. It’s also very touching

I loved on Honolulu for six months, and they have rainbows almost everyday, and fireworks at night at the beach most days too. Love Iz.❤

I first heard it on Charmed and I thought it was on Irish song then I heard on ER when Mark Greene died
His version chokes me up every time. First, because it's so beautiful, and second, because they included footage of his funeral in the video.
I can't get through this without crying, such a beautiful soul taken from us so very much too soon!
Yes it’s the same song. This is kind of like Iz’s take on “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”… the way Angelina sang “Bohemian Rhapsody “.

Of all the versions of over the rainbow I have heard this is my favorite.
5:23 I love this! We got to hear your full rendition one of these days, that was amazing
Этой песне несколько лет, замечательная!
This is Foreigners (external to Hawaii) best known Izzy song. Inside Hawaii i believe 'E ALA E ' is the Most Loved ;) X You'll see why :)
Most beautiful funeral ever. Surrounded by love ❤❤
Israel was such a Beautiful human being so sad he was taken from this earth far too early and is so deeply missed ❤ his music is simply heavenly 😇🌈🌈🌈
Such a very different version of Over the Rainbow, different melody and mixed-up lyrics, but very beautiful.
I don't know how you are doing it, but you are reacting to all of my favorite songs. You are great.
Most beautiful version of this song with amazingly touching video.
U really need to chk out the version by Eva Cassidy. Luv IZ but Eva's...Mark
May his soul be taken care of forever!!!!!💖

Agree 100% @ Eva's version. Tops.
I heard this for the first time in 50 First Dates. I cried my eyes out. Still do tear up.
I used to say that nobody should sing this but Judy Garland. Now I say nobody should sing this but Iz! Same thing for Wonderful World. I came to him, like you did, after his death but thank God he left us his glorious angel music . I love " chim-e-ney tops" too.
He was a treasure to his people, sadly missed, he died so young.
From what I have heard of it, you have a beautiful voice.
You found another Great one. Thanks so much 👍🙏👣
'Wiz kid' I like that. I grew up watching both and absolutely loved both for their own way of presenting the story.
I love this version of this great song!
If you really want to hear a different take on it , try Nina Hagen live version. One of my very favorites 😍
Luv your reactions Britt ❤️
Bruddah Iz is singing his version on the Island he was born and raised. Lots of rainbows in Hawaii. He passed away at 36 from complications of obesity. And the last part at the ocean and they blow the horn is the burial of Iz. They celebrated his death. And yes same song as Judy sang i love her version but i love his more! No its Bruda IZ... rip and God bless... whole island stopped for his funeral... such a huge voice! scattered ashes at Wainae
This song is two songs in one actually. Somewhere over the Rainbow and it's a wonderful world
Iz is Hawaiiwn, born and raised and promoted Hawaiian music all his life. It is the song that Judy Garland made popular.
This is the Brother Iz version. Same song but Iz , being Iz, sang what he remembered of the song and it worked really well.
This man called a recording person in the middle of the night wanting to make this record. They did it in one try and everybody loved it. He passed away not long after but he sure gave us a gift! Yes, he sang it his own way! The end is his burial in the sea by his loyal friends!
In San Diego and Hawaii, this man was a gift to us. RIP!
He left a legacy of music.
He's Hawaii's Native son...we miss him and his beautiful voice🌺🌈🏄♂️
This song makes me homesick. I’m a Lahaina girl, and have missed it every day since we moved.
I watched Lahaina burn the last 2 days. I have friends missing, people lost their pets.
Please donate to your local Red Cross.
As others have said, it is the same song from Wizard of Oz, but Iz really made it his own and, to my mind, made it even more beautiful.
RIP IZ... I hope this to be playing when it's my time
The way he sings this song just sounds like how someone who knows theyre going to pass soon tries to console a child
Wow.... You sincerely have a lovely voice. You have a voice like a lullaby, very bluesy, kinda Jewlesk
1) You absolutely must watch The Wizard of Oz sometime, it is a classic; 2) Yes, millions of us watched it every year, back in the pre-VCR days when the network would show it every year (same for Sound of Music); 3) its a long-ish movie and lots of us fell asleep (or were sent to bed) before it ended, more than once; 4) Judy Garland was a phenomenal singer, and her original rendition of Over the Rainbow is and always will be the benchmark against which all others will be measured; 5) this renditions is very, very different, and yet it is also heartbreakingly beautiful - so much so that it really has earned a place as one of the two definitive renditions, and least in my mind.
Our Hawaiian SupahMan!!! RIP Braddah IZ !!! ❤️ Ur Reaction. Don't Stress Stay Blessed!!! Much Love 4rm Hawai'i 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Brudda IZ was a beautiful person and personified the best of the Hawaiian people and culture.
During the ceremony of giving his ashes to the sea the truckers on Oahu sounded their horns and it sounded like the island itself was mourning.
I love everything he did from his start with the Makaha Sons of Niʻihau to his last songs but two of my favorites are his version of "Take Me Home Country Roads" and his heart rending rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
Aloha to my Big Island 'Ohana
This guy had an angelic voice
This is the song Judy Garland immortalized in the 1939 film. Iz just made it his own in the most beautiful way.
Have 3 daughters, Doctor, Nurse, Teacher. Sang this to them all the tine
It is a tribute to IZ, we all lost a huge talent when he passed.
I love people like this dude. Myself I’m too “nervous”. This mf sounds FREE. Love that ♥️
such a wonderful version of the song. Hawaii is a very special place...a must visit!!
Iz is somewhere over the rainbow
Heaven
It's a happy ending
Instead of sadness they Celebated his life...❤
