I don't want to sound negative, I absolutely love your latest project of the outhouse, personally I would have put a block in the middle of the frame just to help stop flexing and possibly causing leaks in the shower section. However great progress and what a lucky strike finding the free wood I love it when this kind of thing happens,I built a 10 ft by 6 ftshed out of pallets and free wood and free windows too so this is right up my street.. well done both ,can't comment on who won at jousting I think a rematch haha😍🥰

Oh no you're not being negative at all, we appreciate the advice 🌸 Things are always so much better when they're free aren't they? 🤠 maybe we'll duel again in the future if we're both mad enough ahah

Good effort on building the out house guys! The beginning is the toughest, we did the opposite and arrived in a very wet and cold winter. 18 months later I can’t believe what we’ve achieved (and how rough we lived at the beginning! - not that we’re quite in luxury yet 😆 ) the summer is still the hardest but we’re half way through and try to do as little as possible in the heat. 💛

Well done! I live in a hot desert country in Africa where the locals say people get finished/used up fast, the work doesn't. They work slowly but steadily, take lots of rest and even sing and joke while working!

The Snake will keep the mice in check and it looks like a Viper which are very timid even though venomous .He knows the barn has mice and they are a easy target in the dark as he has heat seeking receptors .
He will do everything to distance himself from you .
    Loving your videos .

I've been following your journey from day 1 and I look forward to seeing your content. I'm an expat who lives in Greece and I know the challenges of living in a different country and culture. You have however, made a good impression on your neighbour who keeps giving you garden produce, so right there the locals are impressed with what you're doing! You are both very brave which I admire greatly. You will have ups and downs to be sure, but Rome (or even Lisbon) wasn't built in a day!!!

Great job on the build. Best wishes on your new homestead.
The snake skin is from a Lataste Viper. It is venomous so proceed with caution if you see one. Simply beautiful.
Look on the net for Snakes of Portugal. Craig Rogers photography has excellent photos to identify them.

I moved to central Portugal a year ago with my partner and baby and the heat yes, is pretty heavy… I sometimes toss and turn in bed wondering what the hell am I doing here….me, someone who thinks 25c is hot…what am I doing here??? But then I watch my little boy running around stalk naked, blowing kisses to the moon and standing in awe quietly watching the birds gather in the trees… I find myself sitting at the end of the day, my heart filled with a warm glow of happiness and gratitude that I now live here.. this is now my life.. such freedom and peace. I also remind myself that this mad heat isn’t a every day thing, today we hit 30c instead of 42c and ahh the relief.. I also try and remind myself that this heat only hits a little here and there and the rest of the year is a perfect balance between not too hot, not too cold and just beautiful. Hang in there. Your doing a great job and building something beautiful indeed. It will be worth it xxx

Don’t worry about the snake, I know it's one of the largest we have in Portugal, it’s a rat-snake no harm for you and good to control the rat population.
If memory doesn’t betray me, there are only 2 venom snakes, and normally they aren’t aggressive so no snake problem in Portugal! ;)

New subscriber here, found your channel a few days ago. You have some beautiful land, and the barn is stunning. Do you need planning permission to convert it? I live in Tenerife, Canary Islands, and here the laws are really strict on building 😟. Loving the free wood, I'm always on the lookout for free things, have built many things from items found by the side of the road! Looking forward to following your progress!

Good effort on the out house! be careful of the wild boar they can get aggressive or protective over young.. and don't take this as negative but just friendly advice! start thinking long term! over engineer things, so they are solid, and so they last longer! nothing worse than running around doing the same jobs time and time again! just because you cut corners or used cheaper materials!.. for example the floor joists i would have doubled up or used a deeper 4x2.. i know its only an out house.. loved the video, and im jealous! it's all a learning curve and your off to good start.. please don't take my comment as negative! just trying to save you work down the line..

Can someone help me? Im getting very confused, I’ve been doing so much research on building or renovation in Portugal because that is what I want to do.
Everywhere I search it says you need a lot of paperwork and permits and an architect and a lawyer to propose the building plans to the municipal. And that the house or renovation needs to be carried out by hired professionals.
A lot of rustic land/buildings do not get permission for habitation. Yet I see so many people on these videos just building themselves on what seems rustic land with not that much experience. I want to do the same with my partner but How do you get permission for this? How does this work? I really hope someone can give me an answer.

Great work guys! Much more luxurious than my tiny out house.
The floor boards you're using looks like MDF, if it is you'll need to unscrew them and make sure they're thoroughly painted/sealed on every side because any moisture will make them swell up and disintegrate (like wet cardboard). Would hate to see all your hard work melt away in the first winter!

Loving the videos and slowly working my way through. One thought is that underneath the outhouse and the black ground cover is the perfect snake habitat. Great necessity to have an out house. 📣Wondering why it's not closer to your stone building for the confidence of use once the house is your home. 🗣 Interested to see how you progress and wish you both much success. 🗣🇫🇴🇬🇧

Thanks for watching Ellen 💖 the outhouse is only a 20 second walk from the barn so we'll be fine when we convert it into our home 🤗

I enjoy the effort you really should put foundation in the center for failure in the framing from weight over time other then that great job and idea you two keep it up once you get it up the momentum we'll carry you in to the work on the 🏠 house and then an addition on the house.

Another good video and loving the morning and evening skies. Very nice scenery. As for the snake, don't worry about him too much. It's actually a good thing that he's around. They will help keep the mice knocked down. Also, the shed skin of a snake is usually about 30% larger than the actual snake. They have skin in between each scale so as they shed the skin, it stretches out. Think of how the bellows on an accordion stretch out as you expand it. Good luck in everything you do.

Marvelous that your reusing material. Collecting and organizing these reclaimed items is a job in itself. Brutal working in that heat. Your property is a beautiful slice of peace. Love the evening sunset and sound of crickets. Sweet dreams to you both and one day soon you'll wake up to your own created paradise.
