  • I've been buying and watching Laserdiscs since the late 1980's. I currently own (and have watched) 86 Criterion Collection Laserdiscs. In Part 1, I show my Criterion Collection movies starting with letter A thru letter L.

    Those are beautiful objects indeed and so many of my favourite films, including the black and white ones. Really nice to see them, looking forward to part 2.

    I don’t know anything about laser discs, but you’ve given me a nice taste of the happiness they give you. I’ve seen many of the films in your laser disc collection, and I can imagine how the bonus features make the LD experience extra enriching.

    I just bought Bound on Criterion. I still remember seeing Lord Of The Flies at the drive-in with my parents when I was a kid. It scared the shit out of me. Great movie. I'm waiting for a Criterion edition of Human Centipede.....a cinematic masterpiece 😂.

    Love Criterion. I've bought many DVD/BLU-RAY discs. And yes, I do buy them when they are 50% off at B&N. I also get email from Criterion when they have a "flash" 50% off also. Unfortunately, the quick 50% off from Criterion is a 24-hr deadline. If you don't check your email, you miss the sale. Sometimes I get email for a 30% off from Criterion. Of course, I check what is available, don't buy just for the sake of buying, even at 50% sale. Do you have a copy of "Fiend Without a Face"? A B SIFI movie. Now no one will ever call that movie a classic, but Criterion did release it on DVD, so someone at Criterion must have enjoyed the movie enough to release it.

      So great that you collect Criterion as well. I don't have Fiend Without A Face on laserdisc - but oh yea, I've seen it multiple times growing up. The brain with the antennae - Classic Sci - Fi - cool that Criterion put that one out. Best, Alan.

    Hi Alan - as I mentioned previously I am not a movie person at all, although I have a great collection of rock DVD's and music Blu Rays. That said - those laser discs look amazing, like the CD box sets so beautifully put together. Cya

    Amazing collection. I have a smattering of Criterions. Mon Oncle, La Strada, Citizen Cane, Annie Hall and the two first Python movies. I think that’s it on Criterion LD.

    Pretty sure Criterion did LD's of A Hard Day's Night and Help, but I could be wrong.
    You have Criterions that feature Simon and Garfunkel music (Graduate), and two with solo acting performances (Annie Hall/Carnal Knowledge), LOL.

      I was an early adopter - had a ton - then my player finally broke, and I decided to sell most of my collection, - but keep the cool boxsets and some horror. Then bought another player (and then a 2nd one) and rebought the laserdiscs. But I find them all over Long Island for really cheap, so worked out ok.

    It's nice to see people who are this passionate about movies. This is a quality collection, Alan.
    One question, though--do you have like 20 or 30 laserdisc players? Or do you know how to fix them? What do you do if one breaks?

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks great question - Sad but true but decades ago, my laserdisc player broke and I sold like 90 percent of my collection. Then I found a working player and rebought all these laserdiscs - but luckily I find them all over for very cheap. Then I bought another player. Then one player broke and I brought it to a repair shop and he fixed it. I currently have 2 working players and one that doesn't work. Hopefully they'll last. Best, Alan

    enjoy the work criterion puts into their releases. have a handful on dvd. never got into laser discs. i was never too stuck on visual etc. as long as i could see it i was fine. cant think of Alphaville without hearing that deep voice saying “alpha-ville…..”
    there was a really nice VHS set for Citizen Kane that was released back then that included the script etc. When they started releasing some VHS letterboxed i was working in a video store and people would rent a movie and call up asking what was wrong with the tape half picture was missing. ive never seen lawrence of arabia but its playing in theaters this august which is way i wanted to see it so looking forward to that. nice collection dude. so whats your game plan for getting through everything? do you watch the movie and then dive right into bonus stuff or do watch the bonus stuff over course of few days?

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  Месяц назад +1

      Larenced Of Arabia in a theaters gotta be amazing. I deep dive the movie. Watch the movie and then all the bonus features - documentaries, etc. If a 2nd audio track with running commentary, I'll watch it then as well, because the movie's so fresh. If a 3 audio track with running commentary, will wait a few days or a week at most. Then into the database and filed away....like the CD's. I don't keep all the laserdiscs I buy - just Criterion, Horror, Sci-Fi, music or if a movie I really loved. Don't have the room (like the CD's).

      Been through that before - I have two. And one I had fixed and works perfectly. The discs are easy to find and very cheap - the players - like a needle in a haystack and if shipped, guarantee won't work upon delivery.
