    I retired from the Shipyard at Newport News. We built and overhauled the aircraft carriers and submarines. I had the privilege of working on the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN 71 and a lot more of the great carriers including the USS Enterprise. Love it and love the Mariners Museum Also. The Apprentice's from the Shipyard built the full size model of the Monitor civil warship that sets out front at the Museum.

    Hello; I have been to the Mariner's Museum 3 or 4 times and was impressed each time. They have one of the best collections of model ships that I have ever seen. If you have a chance to visit the Museum it is well worth the admission fee. You can spend the entire day there and enjoy every minute. I have since moved to Texas so getting to visit again is not likely.

      Yes, there was a wonderful model of the Eagle. It so happened that I was in the museum with the archaeologist who excavated this ship. We discussed with him the reconstruction of those parts that are missing - I want to build a more accurate copy))))

    I first visited the museum years ago when I was about ten. I was hooked on model ships from then on. Theone ship that caught my attention was the CSS Alabama. Now that I'm 72 I have run out of room, ships and cases are everywhere. Maybe I'll see if the museum has any interest in some of my work. I saw the Monitor exhibit a few years ago, very interesting.

      Так і є - це так звана "Вотів модель" або церковна модель. В основному їх будували моряки для пожертв церкві, як подяка за вдалу кампанію чи після пережитого шторму... Ці моделі не мають нічого спільного з реальними вітрильниками але теж мають свою харизму!

    Unless I'm mistaken, ships were built of oak. With the very large number of ships that existed in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, I always wondered if the oak resource was available and if there was an ecological impact on the forests.

    • @cajunrandy2143
      @cajunrandy2143 2 года назад +3

      might have been environmental impact but i dont think the oak was anywhere near depleted through the 19th century- america alone had a seemingly inexhaustable supply

    Was für ein schönes und interessantes Museum .
    Vielen Dank für das Video und das Du mich hast teilhaben lassen an Deinen Eindrücken .
    Die Entwicklung des Schiffbaues ist schon bemerkenswert.
    Ich frage mich immer wieder ob es nicht auch heute möglich wäre mit Segelschiffen kostendeckend und Umweltschonend Ware über die Weltmeere zu transportieren.
    Von der Modellbau Seite betrachtet ist jedes Schiff wie auch bei Dir ein Kunstwerk .
