    So why did the ship capsize? It was hardly the WASA

      Capsize? She was broken up for scrap in 1822.

      She capsized at Spithead anchorage in the Solent.
      Heeled over to have a new chain pump fitted, whilst taking on supplies from the opposite side.
      Allegedly through the gunports.
      She took on water, rolled onto the tender alongside and then sank taking 800 souls including Admiral Kempenfelt, 1 mile from the shoreline.

      @@capnkit This is one version but a courtsmarshal said the officers and crew were not to blame and that the ship had become unstable due to the poor state of its timbers. I suspect something of both explanations is true.
