I suffer from a L5 disc bulge. I saw a McGill Master Clinician for over a year. Spent thousands of dollars. Read all his books. Had a video call with Brian Carroll. Practiced his method consistently, daily for two years. It did absolutely nothing for my pain and injury. His master clinician couldn’t even identify the cause of my pain after countless visits. Very disappointing as he was my last hope.

Hi...I'm a 48 year old male, reasonably fit, working out everyday for the last 30 years. About 80% of my workout is body weight ( pull up, push up, running, shadow bowling, stretching etc) & 20% is light / medium weights.
    I play active cricket.
In October last year, while doing a dorsiflexion stretch in lying down posture, I got pain symptoms of sciatica ( due to a disc bulge). Terrible pain lasted for about 7-8 days & after that it's negligible. I'm doing the McGill big 3 for last 8 months but a certain part of my left leg - near the outer calf muscle, still feels lightly numb. Sensory perceptions are 100% all right even there ( as per tests) but that numbness / rubbery kind of feeling persists. I am a left arm fast bowler in cricket & wish to continue with the game without debilitating perils to my back. Is that possible ?

8:40, interesting concept "confidence". In actuality, in cognitive science, that's just the action-reward at play, in which case a reward could be negative (pain). The brain tries to protect you by registering the pain associated with an action, and it becomes subconscious. I suppose, all we are doing, here is redirecting the brain to find alternative pathways not to experience the negative reward at the expense of inconvenience or odd motion

I didn't like the "Back Mechanic" because it focused only on the low back, rather than the whole spine (I had a hyperextended posture at the time and kept wondering why I had neck pain).

What i really get out of this is, you need a proper assessment of your back issue, going to see a professional might or might not get you a good assessment and good advice, it might steer you completely wrongly, so you need to see me to get the proper diagnosis and treatment. Good luck with that. The discussion is all very interesting, but not really helpful in a practical way.

The spinal region is very complex. You can directly work on your hip to stabilize your lower back but it can come from other things like the intervertebral discs etc. I am not a physiotherapist but I can advise you in private.

Smoking what, though? I smoke high quality cigars w/o any negative effects. Cigarettes, on the other hand, are entirely different. Cigar smoke is not inhaled (horribly painful to do so) and smoked slowly; cigarettes are made with the poorest quality tobacco (powder) plus many additives and the smoke is deeply inhaled.
