I wish way more stuff like this was on TV. If not so lay people would understand it, but that they would be interested in it. It might awaken something, or make them think differently, or they'd discover something new.

No, the opera was written in a certain way. The singer must perform it, that certain way. The conductor KEEPS the singer on track to sing each note of the opera (according to the sheet music she is reading as she conducts) the way it was written by its composer to be sung.
It’s no different than a conductor KEEPING all of the orchestra members (instruments) on track and in the same rhythm for the music they are playing. The conductor KEEPS them all IN SYNC and each orchestra member (instrument) performing when and how it’s meant to be played within the music (sheet music) they are performing. The conductor is always reading the sheet music as they conduct an orchestra.

@@beautifulw999 Oh, please!!! You didn’t even know anything about conducting, sheet music, and why a conductor is important for an orchestra or singer; you calling it a “ridiculous job.” So you are the last person who needs to be judging me about how I accidentally used the wrong word once. You were shown to be ignorant about this topic so just accept it and move on. You aren’t saving face by calling out my minor, temporary mistake. Grow up!!!
