I love these masterclasses, I've been listening to classical music for more than 40 years and this makes me understand the music so much better. Because of the use of the jargon, I learn to recognize the patterns that distinguish less coherence from better coherence and dynamics of classical pieces. Thank you for posting! The people playing their instruments are very good to keep in tune and playing pretty on the same note. THis is very good to see how music comes together under a well trained conductor who knows his stuff. Very good.
Thank you again it’s fascinating and interesting something I don’t understand the boys the second one normally I think the second one and the third one maybe they’re trying to change things all the time well this young Italian conductor she sticks with the originals more and less changes and less acrobatic on the stage as well. What I truly enjoy about the way Berliner Conducting Masterclass is taught...is the belief the Meistro conveys to the Conductors in Training that they absolutely can reach the level desired. I fully enjoy Meistro Gatti's expressions of satisfaction in his students when timing and movements are correct :)
Speaking of respectable, since Daniele was released/removed/ fired et al….from his post as conductor for RKO, have those allegations been proven to be true ? I believe he made some sort of general apology to women but were the claims that were made actually proven or did he all out admit to the allegations? I really do appreciate his technique in teaching and conducting but if those allegations are proven…. I will have lost another person in whom I trust with something important to me. This reminds me of the whole David Haas issue and I’m torn about how I feel with that. How could a guy who writes such great music that is supposed to help in prayer allow his lust to hurt so many people- including his own ex wife? And now his music is banned in places of worship because he couldn’t keep his hands to himself and the ladies involved are “traumatized “ when they hear it being used. Meanwhile I cannot disregard what happened to these women but I also cannot deny that through his music, it has also helped people to heal. This is the dilema I have been facing and I’m stuck with other composers who can’t write a melody that is simple enough, even for non music readers sing to. Sigh! the battles we face these days with who to please and how to respect the views of others and how to remember that we can lose everything in a heartbeat by doing something, so stupid as even winking at another person.

Good morning, only one question, why does some of the young conductors will come for masterclasses try to change? What is that Eitan originally why change things why not leave them as they are because he wants this in Wanstead conduct as it is easy to make impression on someone trying to do what I don’t understand sorry
Really interesting insight. Completely get the "football manager " analogy - decide the strategy/interpretation then work methodically in rehearsals to acheive that. Then on match day, shout a few things as reminders from the touchline that the team should already know! I guess Karajan's famous comments about "gardening" and "weeding" were about hiring and firing the musicians to get the perfect team for the performance - although I understand modern orchestras are often run more consensually than in Karajan's day. What I don't understand at all is how a guest conductor for a performance, who doesn't even take rehearsals, can add much. It would be like the football manager only appearing on match day! Surely things like dynamics and rubato can't really be shaped from scratch by gestures on the night?

The first conductor needs to be schooled on style... Every remark to him by Maestro Gatti was not about gesture, but questionable musical choices. As a matter-of-fact, all participants in this series seem not to know enough about musical analysis, compositional techniques, orchestral balance, and common practices and characteristics of different eras. Learning this from Maestro in front of such magnificent orchestra is a bit of a shame. At least, a waste of a unique opportunity. And the next participant... Was he never told (!!!!!!!!) by his conducting teacher to beat 'phrases' in Stravinsky, not beats ???
i have had the luxury to perform with the first conductor many years ago. He is an incredible musician and conductor. I hope in the future your heart mind (and ears) will be more open to those earnestly learning this craft and allowing them the unforgivable sin of making mistakes while learning
I am a retired professional violist who has served in several orchestras as a principal. I have studied with many great conductors. In general, conductors are only needed to set tempi. All this other "stuff" is unnecessary.

Always show, never tell. At the most, demonstrate what you want by singing it. Gatti is an excellent teacher, at a very high level.
