You can clearly tell you’re dealing with an incredibly professional singer. Renee Fleming is giving her full attention and respect to the students. It is so rare to find a Masterclass where the coach, in this case Fleming, actually takes the time to work even on the smallest of nuances. She’s being so true to the art. I love this and these students are so fortunate!

AMAZING how technically she can show and OBVIOUSLY FEEL the connection to her own physicality in the act of breathing....SHE is so, so connected to the physical and then TRANSCENDS with beautiful sound, exquisite and creative phrasing. So, what I am saying is that her TALENT trumps all the boring but necessary part of music making.

I am very impressed by both singers! The man has a such beautiful timbre!
The soprano is an intelligent woman! She realizes that you can’t „inalare la voce „ too much! She left the stage with another voice! Amazing!
Miss Flemming is a dream of every student! Lovely, gentle and she got everything that is not working! It’s rare! Bravissimo everybody! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️🍀💯🙌🏻🔥

Yes, Bel Canto always works. Until a singers knows how to expand and manage breath even the most fabulous voices will not resonate at optimal level. Renee is on target, I'm surprised how these well trained singers have a lack of understanding of breath. Musicality is paramount but it doesn't express artistry without breath connection.

Was a fantastic class. Really usefull advices. And I would to say that I perceived an evolution in the teaching styles of Renee - more details, more ilustrative, more metaphoric, and less precisely in the good sense. Is a fortune to listen that a such great artist transmiting her knowledge to these young people and her worridness about their future. So, thank you for posting it. Oh, I almost forget to talk about the intervention of the embassy employee. She was so sweet and kindness - relly was a surprise for me that a high gobernment employee express freely his admiration in such manner. Honestly, I feel like she represented in that moment all of who admire Renee around the world. So, thank for that too.

A bit concerning hearing the soprano learning the piece by listening to Netrebko.. I mean Tetrazzini’s recording is available on RUclips.

So very true. Tetrazzini, Lina Pagliughi, Mercedes Capsir, so many to choose from. Each brings something a little different. Especially where it comes to Beverly Sills, Christina Deutekom, Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Anna Moffo, Renata Scotto, or even Roberta Peters. All very different in their approach. Sutherland changed her singing in the very early 60s, and Anna Netrebko changed her way from singing from the late 80s and early 90s when she sang Mimi, Juliette, Adina and Donna Elvira. It seemed to get more throaty and dark as she took on the more dramatic bel canto roles then moving in the heavier Verdi, Puccini, and now Strauss and Wagner. Desdemona in Verdi's Otello was as heavy as she should have gone in my opinion. At least until she was in her mid-40s.

Try and apply the operas in the other countries. There are quite a few small operas in Germany and there you get training in the difficult German pronunciation. And German is a necessity for any singer. Thomas Hampson used this possibility and he is one of the rare singer who masters German Lieder as well as any singer born in Germany.

Come cantavano i giovani 65 anni fa ?!
Era molto semplice di cantare gli alunni avevano delle bellissime voci da giovani.
Mi ricordo una ragazzina che a soli 18 anni interpretava Violetta sul palco, Germont aveva 20…

WOULD MS Fleming not benefit from a fine LAPEL MIKE instead of this old tech hand held mike

The Baritone is actually a Tenor, his chest voice is really good, he needs more release. The soprano doesn't have developed chest voice, and I don't think Netrebko is a good example for a young singer, Sembrich, Callas, Zeani, Tetrazzini are far better examples.

She shouldn't be singing coloratura repertoire to start with. Lol Idk why they couldn't find more interesting singers to be tutored

Saying your throat remains relaxed is contradictory. Unfortunately, terminology in singing is often deceptive. A better word might be "open".

En fait, au final, ces chanteurs doivent réapprendre à chanter. Ils ont tout simplement une mauvaise technique. Une belle voix, de beaux vêtements mais une mauvaise technique…
    En plus ils n’articulent pas.
